This is now getting confusing. 🤣 I thought all the channels would drop the CBS brand, given Paramount have sold their share in the partnership to AMC. Guess this now means Paramount can fully focus its efforts on Paramount+.

That's a Freeview error, I think. The channel's new name is just 'Reality'.

Or the breakup of the CBS/AMC joint venture is resulting in CBS keeping 1 channel, hence it keeping the branding and Reality Xtra (formerly CBS Drama) not. The latter me be remaining with AMC.

Just a thought, I've not read anything.

I think there's a little bit of people of reading speculation on forums and repeating it as fact going on here. AMC aren't good at issuing press releases until after the event, so that's not going to help.

There's lots of people doing that unfortunately, on other forums too. Read it often enough, or with enough conviction, and they think it's true. I've not seen anything official that's clear, so until I do I'm taking it all with a pinch of salt.

So how many years will it take VM to move E4 Extra from the music section to the entertainment section?

An entertainment channel that broadcasts two hours of music videos a day, is not a music channel.

When C4HD moves to Ch104 (aside from London). So whenever C4HD Regions are completed.

It will happen when Virgin Media need to sign a new deal with Channel 4 (I feel sometime by 2024).

Rumour to be Channel 4 HD tests appear on Sky late last month:

https://forums.digitalspy.com/discus...ment_101138379

Last deal was signed in early 2019 when Channel 4 HD was moved to Channel 104 in London.

I’m beyond caring about channel numbers. Surely it doesn’t matter when you can choose your favourite channels.

Clearly, VM don’t treat such matters as a priority.

It's already here and has been for a while now. I upgraded my two V6s to the new 360 software. It is fine and stable with some nifty new features like voice control. However, not everyone likes it as it works in a very different way from the TiVo software on the V6. Also, it is a one-way street - once you have converted your box(es) you cannot go back to the TiVo software and you will lose all of your recordings and will need to remake all of your series links. I am pleased I switched but you need to read all the info about switching very, very carefully before you take the plunge.

Hi heavyside, have they added the 'recycle bin' yet to the 360 software? So you can recover deleted shows.

This was a strange omission from day one, just wondering if they've added it.

Thanks

You're right, this is a strange omission and a feature that many people crave, me included. It's not in the current software (version 4.39) but the 360 is due a software upgrade about now. I'm not holding my breath that it will be included. Crazy.

Hopefully this comes in a future update. I may take the plunge when it does, just have to rattle through my recordings before then though :)

All three would have finished their run of the latest series by now - except one FBI episode got pull last minute and is still to air.

Will see I suppose , Virgin last carriage deal with UKTV was in August 2018 (when the channels returned after being removed in July) , I suspect that's been renewed recently going by recent UKTV changes.

How is that relevant to coming soon to Virgin Media in 2022 though?

Crime drama channel shows crime dramas.

What next will you be telling is Comedy Central will take a day off showing friends.

MTV gonna start showing music again?

Yes but if it’s quiet the forum doesn’t need your fillers. It’s a forum not a magazine.

Other months there is much more, filling it with random nonsense about programmes being shown on is off topic and just clogs up the board.

I think MB is thinking because they are being removed on Sky on that day, the same will be the case on VM.

I wouldn't be surprised if VM remove them tomorrow. Not that it makes a jot of difference.

That was during the one o’clock news. Only affected the BBC1 broadcast as the news channel simulcast was Ok.

Crock pot chat TV isn't a news channel. Money does indeed talk

And I wouldn't imagine it'll make too much difference. Not the sort of channel you look at the Guide info for, or to get access.

When Sky says so, I guess. If I remember correctly, there has been an agreement that VM can have the sport in UHD for some time now. However, they have been taking their time making this available to their own subscribers.

BBC3 & BBC4 failed to start at 7pm this evening, thus messing up the recordings I had of them as they started late.

No idea if this was down to the BBC or another Virgin cock up. I suspect a Virgin cock up as one of their (box generated?) 'This channel is currently unavailable' messages came up at the bottom.

In the past, I have found an issue with not recording, where if you set to record at 7pm, and the recording starts a few seconds earlier than the channel starts. Never tried to repeat it.
Could be related to off-air, BBC3&4 are broadcast in SD, but after 7pm, in HD. Mixing SD and HD in the same recording is never going to be a good idea. VM probably need to switchover to HD, a few minutes before.

Nothing to do with the other Mr Rooney moving to America as manager of DC United FC?

It is currently on 918 of Sky (just checked) and closes tomorrow - https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/What-s-...2/td-p/4061607

The company behind some of these channels just keep changing the names so most likely the name has been used before - and may again.

VM have a standard "Off-air" slate showing when these channels are not broadcasting. These are used on many other channels & are time switched in and out daily without problems. The latest issue only affected some headends & not others, so may be an encoding issue when switching from the slate to the live channel.

But they are broadcast in SD and then switch to HD. Check what your TV says if you tune in. Do those other channels switch from a SD slate to a HD broadcast? UHD channels(999&228) always broadcast in UHD, even just the slate.

If the switchover to HD occurs after the recording starts in SD, might that not cause problems? Or perhaps the recording starts in HD because of the epg, but the broadcast is still in SD at the time. Going to try it. Also going to check the switchover from HD to SD after the last programme of the night.

What do the freeview channels for BBC3/4 do before 7pm? Does VM gain anything by broadcasting the BBC3/4 slates in SD?

BBC3 and BBC4 SD timeshare with CBBC and CBeebies respectively.

On Freeview the only difference is BBC4 HD and CBeebies HD, at time of writing, haven't relaunched since the recent closure of COM7, and BBC3HD is replaced by S4C HD and BBC Scotland Channel HD in Wales and Scotland respectively.

All VM are doing is pointing the channel number to an information slate channel out of hours. The broadcast channel will be broadcasting one of the BBC's children's channels so something else needs to be shown.

Virgin uses a "one size fits all" slate (static video image). Any off-air service will be redirected to the same slate.

Freeview uses a bespoke off-air slate for each channel, which is text based rather than a video image and generated using MHEG for older TVs or hbbTV for newer models.

Doesn't matter what is or isn't broadcast. My question is over what might happen when its broadcast in SD, on a channel that changes to HD. Can the VM boxes cope with the change in resolution/format?

Performing tests, so should know soon. Also set up tests for end of the days programmes, where it should change from HD to SD.

I'm not trying to state it as fact, just raising the question of whether it might be the cause of the recording issue.
