Nice to see another broadcaster adopting HDR for 4K/UHD. (Not that I have equipment to watch it)

Does anyone know who provides the feeds to broadcasters for the French Open? Is there a host broadcaster or does the tournament do it? Curious who decided to do HDR, and the HLG type at that.

Not been able to see the Eurosport HDR but I've had mixed impressions on the BBC Football in HDR so far.

If this is the announcement of the new carriage deal with Sky, I would imagine that we will hear more within a short space of time. It might be only days now.

That doesn't really help us to feel any better about it, cheekyangus!

Given the length of time involved, maybe it's something significant. Or maybe Gold goes HD or something as maddening as that!

4K HDR Tennis on Eurosport via red button. Is anyone having any colour issues, REC. 2020 colour space doesn't seem right.

I'm not sure if the feed is mapping the colur space correctly. Weirdly it actually look best when the TV is set to DCI colour space.

It has looked very orange - but oddly the same comment was made about the non-HDR feed on Sky.

So might not actually be a HDR issue.

I feel there's still a long way to go before they get HLG spot on. Especially with live broadcasts.

I tend to stick to HD mostly. Or I just set the TV colour settings to rec. 709 or even DCI. That way you still get the 4K clarity, it does seem to work out ok.

HLG(especially live broadcasts) is still a long way from the quality you can get from a 4K(HDR) movie through an UHD player.

Sorry that wasn't my intention. :erm:

I was trying to say it might be very soon and the far off end date was simply designed to make it difficult to speculate accurately.

MB: Your source is playing games with you and I wish he would stop. I've had these DNP "orders" in the past.

You can post what you want and if your source fears this may somehow identify him by disclosing such sensitive information, then he is deluded, because any such info will already be known by dozens of other people other than himself.

If you can't say what the info is, then better to say nothing. I'm still very grateful for info you posted here years ago about a broadband speed upgrade. I got the upgrade six months early, thanks to your post, so your efforts are really appreciated. The ****** wasting your time, is another matter entirely.

Ok, you tell me what it brings then, Den, imo it brings absolutely zero to this thread, this thread is titled "coming soon" a post saying we know whats coming but we have a dnp, makes a mockery of this thread title, we've seen these dnp posts before, and most have either come to nothing, or have been about some totally useless channel coming, as Horizon has already said, there will probably be loads of people who know about this already, so posting it will make not a jot of a difference, what will they do to MB if he reveals what it is, send him to the galllows? :p:

Look like two new Channel 4 AD (Audio Description) stations are set to launch soon on Virgin Media UK on Virgin UK Channel 854.

Digital Bit Rate says they appeared on May 23rd on CO 57.

So some Virgin Media viewers will need to readd Channel 4 AD to their Favourites Channels if it launch in your area.

Well l disagree on what it brings to the thread MM as there are many members on here and many like to check the thread for the latest going ons and on what might potentially happen in the future.

Horizon can presume as much as he wants as he is entitled to have his respected opinion just like anybody else on here.

MB has done a good job on here for many years and certainly does not deserve some of the grief he gets sometimes as whatever he posts he is doing to the best of his ability.

Agree 100% - I prefer see something is potentially coming (even if, when it turns up, it is of no interest to me) as opposed to some of the wishful thinking that doesn't turn up. Thanks MB. :)

Except the DNP order MB was talking about expires at the end of the year. This must be a different one, and as it is already known that Amazon Prime is coming to VM this summer, I don't understand what the secrecy is all about.

So it's testing. What I want to know is when is it launching. That's news..

No, I agree with Max. Saying that you know something but you can't reveal what it is for over six months is not worth posting because it doesn't mean anything by itself. If there was some additional indication that could be given (eg it's a new TV channel, or it's an upgrade in PQ or it's a streaming service), now that would be worth posting.

But 'I know a secret and I ain't gonna tell' is not helpful. Better to say nowt.

By the way, that's not a criticism of MB, it is just making a helpful observation.

Only question about the pictures is - when were they dated? We know that Amazon Prime was tested on the V6 and VM was keen to launch but Liberty Global wanted to get more involved in the negotiations so its launch was delayed.
Pictures have previously been circulated showing Amazon on the V6 - see this one here which is quite old as it includes the World Box app.

It looks to me more like Sky Sports HD is to be removed from any non V6/TiVo boxes. A sure sign that these legacy STB's are to be discontinued.

Do VM customers in Scotland have either STV +1 or an ITV +1 channel? I ask because on Sky they have neither, but are at least able to manually tune in ITV +1 (which cannot be done on VM).

This is very old news. All Sky Sports HD subscribers had their non-TiVo boxes swapped out long ago. The URL used to go to a page where they could book the box swap.

Den, I and others have thanked MB for his revelations in the past. We are simply pointing out that a DNP order with no detail or suggestion as to the kind of development it is cannot be of any use to anybody.

It is not a criticism, it is a helpful suggestion to avoid upsetting people and inviting responses such as 'What the ****?'

STV +1 tested for a few years on satellite and never joined any EPG but could be tuned manually IIRC there was a dispute with the shared cost of the slot with ITV as it wasn’t a part of the public service obligations.

Sky has done a deal with STV with regards to regional STV HD services but they are encrypted so Freesat users anywhere in Scotland only have STV HD Glasgow variant.

I hope the security on the Amazon App is good. Someone hacking my Netflix account I can live with but Amazon prime is another beast and all that comes with it. Access to my music, photos, purchasing just about anything. What will the app actually do. Just purchase and view streaming?

The app gives you access to the streaming service including Amazon channels. Nothing to worry about! :)

The channels? Wouldn't have thought VM would allow those as they carry many of them already via their own agreements.

It appears that they have done so. I don't think they need to worry. It is cheaper via VM and you get additional channels to boot.

Zee TV HD started on VM on 4/9/18 after being a Sky exclusive since 5/3/18.

Bizasia say that, as well as &TV, Living Foodz and Zing closing, Zee TV HD would also be closing on Sky and VM. It was removed from Sky the other day, but was returned the day after and has been available on VM throughout, so I don't know what they are actually doing!

The work experience person probably pressed the wrong button... :p:

As I understand it &TV, Living Foodz and Zing are going App-Only...or their content is. Some of their content is moving to remaining Zee channels I believe.

Sky Atlantic VIP is closing on Sky on 12/6/19.

Either this attempt at retaining customer loyalty has failed, or they are possibly streamlining things in preparation for distributing the channel to third parties. Maybe this is one of the linear channels that Sky said that they were closing?

Confrimed: Zee HD closes on Virgin Media UK.

Zee TV HD has close on CO75 and Zee TV has launch in MPEG4 on CO29.

Viewers can view Zee TV if they have Asian Mela.

---------- Post added at 18:12 ---------- Previous post was at 18:03 ----------

Also TiVo has confirm that Virgin Media Viewers with V6 boxes will get access to Desi App Pack from June 5th to July 4th.

V6 viewers will just need to press red on Channel 800 from June 5th to view it.

Have the UKTV Channels take over gone through yet? Is anything actually going to change except the owners and possibly more bbc footage? Why did discovery keep the 3 weaker channels...seems a bit odd.

Also i have to question why BBC 3 closed down if the bbc can afford 100+ million on UKtv channels

The UKTV takeover will happen by Summer 2019 - within the next month or so.

BBC is NOT takeover UKTV it BBC Studios (The spin-off of The BBC to sell BBC programme and own BBC Channels out side the UK.)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_Studios

We may see UKTV moving to new channels numbers when it happen.

We feel Discovery may axe some channels as they will own

Discovery Channel
Animal Planet
Discovery History
Discovery Home & Health
Discovery Science
Discovery Shed
Discovery Turbo
DMAX
Investigation Discovery
Quest
Quest Red
TLC
Food Network
Travel Channel
Good Food
Home
Really

And that before all the +1 Channels and HD Channels.

Indeed, but ultimately its parent and ownership is the publicly funded BBC.

Really will be folded into Quest Red and TLC.

Good Food and Food Network will begin sharing shows as well as seeing more US imports from the Cooking Channel, FN’s American sister channel.

The whole point of BBC Worldwide, which was folded into BBC Studios, was to make money to add to the money the BBC gets from the Licence Fee, so it's doing the financing of the wider BBC, the BBC isn't funding it.

According to BARB ratings Quest Red had a 0.48 share of total viewing in April 2019, TLC had 0.21 and Really had 0.64.

Of course TLC is a Pay channel so the money from that would offset the lower ratings to an extent.

DMAX, which replaced Travel Channel on Freeview in January (and went FTA on Freesat at the same time) had a 0.34 rating in April. DMAX had 0.03 in the last month before the change. Travel Channel had 0.32 rating in the month before the change and was 0.03 in April.

Given Really is higher rating than Quest Red I don't see them closing it. And Quest Red is higher rating than Travel Channel before it left Freeview, so why remove that? They aren't just going to do it because they are similar and Travel Channel being different would widen the genre choice, money will dictate that, and larger ratings probably mean the similar channels make more money for them.

Having said that I'd like Travel Channel to return to Freeview.

In the Ofcom monthy update:

https://www.ofcom.org.uk/manage-your...cences/update:

Omnidirectional has noticed that a new satellite/cable licence has been awarded for Made in Teeside, which is odd as the channels are no longer called 'Made' and only broadcast a single national service on satellite.

Is there a local channel on VM in Teeside?

I'm guessing the STV2 contract with VM expired before That's Scotland launched and wasn't transferred to That's.

There was a period between STV2 closing, STV selling to That's and That's actually launching where all That's Scotland showed was a Coming Soon screen on Freeview.

Steady Media Boy you could get reported in your own thread - the amount of gaps in the frequency plan (and where they are!) aren't appropriate to the Coming Soon thread as I was told when I introduced this line of chat.
