What's new though, it's pretty ridiculous now that this has become the standard performance of Arsenal. I can't think of many others that continuously get spanked by Bayern. Even with 10 men this is absolutely embarrassing.

Arthurgray50@blu 07-03-2017 22:20

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

Wenger has to go now. Totally embarrassment score. I think the Arsenal Board have to phone Wenger in the morning and say - you are fired.

That score must be a record for Arsenal in defeat.

Yes, l have knocked Arsenal in the past. But being a Spurs fan, you will expect it. BUT. Arsenal were a powerful side and a very good side. But they have not bought many decent players. And players want to quit.

Its odds on that Spurs will finish above Arsenal - something the Arsenal fans don't want. So the board have to say, enough is enough. And bring in a fresh Manager. But Poch is staying at Tottenham.

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

They've bought decent players, they're not the Arsenal of old but it never helps when the likes of Ozil disappear in big matches, he wasn't on tonight but it's been a contributing factor throughout.

Barcelona score 3 in 7 minutes to overturn 4 goal aggregate deficit and win 6-1 on the night (6-5)

Incredible, not only overturning 4 goals but being 3-1 up and still needing 3 to win.

I won a quite insignificant sum backing them, it's a kick in the testicles tbh, I'd rather have lost than won peanuts on a once in a lifetime bet :(

first two Barca goals, very jammy, 1st penalty iffy, 2nd a blatant dive, still PSG had two one on ones with the keeper in the second half and fluffed them both.

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

They score 5 legitimately fine goals. The first penalty is brutally harsh but it's got to be given. The second is a pretty blatant flop. He should never put his hand on him though, there's never any solid contact to send him flying but the ref see's his hand on him and there's no way he can measure that the way we can on the TV.

I'm not bothered though. No penalty and extra time would make sense if they scrapped the ridiculous away goals rule. Can't believe we still allow teams to go out without actually losing anything.

iadom 09-03-2017 13:37

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

Whilst I agree that the first two goals where legitimate I certainly wouldn't class either of them as 'fine' both lucky/scrappy. The free kick and the winning goal would rank as fine, top class ones in my book.

Apparently Rostov are moving to a new ground next season, an artificial pitch would have been better than that, thankfully no injuries.

Watching Lyon v Roma after seeing the Windies hammered. Thankfully at least one of these teams won't be in the next round.

BTW Den, the goal that United conceded was the first in this competition for 443 minutes.:p:

I see the team that knocked Spurs out lost 5-2 at home to another Belgian side who are one place below them in their league.

Maybe for some people but I don't hate anyone, certainly not other football teams. I don't even mildly dislike Liverpool for that matter.

I just thought that as it was the first goal they had conceded in this competition for 443 minutes, and United have the second best defensive record in the Premiership which is far superior to Liverpools that your throw away line 'As usual' was way off the mark. :)

Embarrassing game in parts, that Vardy/Nasri incident was embarrassing for both involved, always easy to label all the foreign players as divers, Vardy just proved them all wrong, well played mate.

Some cracking punditry too, ''I don't think Nasri deserved to be sent off, I'd have yellowed both of them and got on with it''

Yeah, erm, Nasri was already on a yellow... Yellow + Yellow = Red, pundit's guidebook. Correct decision, but I'd have booked Vardy for that embarrassing reaction alone and the run up.

I'd assume for progression they'd like Atletico or Dortmund, both of which can run riot at times. Otherwise from a fans perspective, they'll be treating this as the FA cup minnows scenario and will likely want Madrid, Juventus, Bayern or Barca.

Juventus though, it can be done: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...ue/2349169.stm

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

Man City look absolutely no different under Pep. Then again I did say this would happen given the media have hyped up his name based upon two stints at world beating teams.

They should really pull the goals back here and nullify the nonsense away goal rule but for them to have shipped 5 goals to Monaco is baffling.

iadom 15-03-2017 21:06

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

Well Monaco have scored 125 goals so far this season, but as for Pep not only did he inherit world class sides, they were both playing in leagues with only one or two serious challengers.

This Monaco side seem to be running out of steam again though.

It's something that never bothered me that much until I took a bigger interest in English teams playing in the UCL. The one that got me started was Chelsea being knocked out by Barcelona with a result of 0-0 in Barcelona and 1-1 in London, truly awful rule.

I just get the feeling United will hit a bit of form and it's a definite they'll overtake Arsenal now, they can not relinquish that opportunity and the teams battling for that fourth spot will be United, Liverpool and Arsenal. I think Everton beat Hull and go level with them today.

United doing their bit, Arsenal are 6th as it stands. If City and Liverpool grind out to a draw, Arsenal will be 6 off the top four and 2 behind United. That's the furthest they can end the day on. Heading into the international break then but of course you can guess whom Arsenal have next... City whilst Liverpool host Everton and United host West Brom.

All in all that fixture run in if you take the odds on results could leave Arsenal 9 points from fourth. They really need something from City and could do with results going their way elsewhere.

A filthy tackle from Taylor on Seamus Coleman, looks like a bad injury.

Bale should have had a second yellow as well.

Two quite shocking challenges. :erm:

Literally can't think of anything more to say to those, that Bale one is beyond sheer luck he didn't catch him cleanly. Also a straight red.

Agreed, I mistakenly thought Bale had already had a yellow but he could have done serious injury with that challenge. :(

That was hard work to watch, Foster in the Baggies goal was time wasting after 15 minutes and was allowed to get away with it all match by Mike Dean. I can understand teams packing their defence hoping to nick one on the break but West Brom didn't even try to break out. Even worse than a,couple of seasons ago when Chelski played with five defender's and five midfielders. Can't remember who was managing them at the time.;)

I wonder if the board of arsenal have the bottle to sack arsene wenger. 90% of the fans want him out.

---------- Post added at 23:41 ---------- Previous post was at 23:38 ----------

They certainly wont beat Man City

City are already getting the chances. 1-0, was coming. Arsenal are a broken team. Broken down the middle with a 50 yard punted ball, gap was massive, just poor.

And Arsenal defend like they usually do with a very simple ball parting their defence again.:D

Wasn't even a simple ball, it was purely a punt away down field that you'd expect to be picked off by a defender and it just wasn't

Horrible challenge by Navas, not sure where I stand but I do lean towards red for that, after the past few international incidents I'd say he's very lucky.

Arsenal look to be in trouble every time City cross over half way. Unless this settles down, there's goals to come yet.

The way this is going it could be 3.0 at half time.

Arsenal have settled now, paid for taking a while though with an early goal. I hope qualifying for the Europa League is also like winning a trophy. :erm:

Its more likely to be my team and that second team in Manchester who qualify for the Europa League.:)

More Arsene Wenger protests today, I'm wondering though if these are a new thing or getting bigger and more vocal or are a common thing but just more publicized this year to fit in with the Arsene may be leaving angle that's going on.
