Not sure if Sky wants to talk really, they want to promote their own platform which is understandable but frustrating at times.

It's not going to happen.

Interesting as Endemol Shine is owned by Fox who are normally aligned with 40%-owned affiliate Sky.

Sky Movies Harry Potter Channel back in April.

Sky Movies has confirmed that Sky Movies Harry Potter will be back on April 2nd to April 10th 2016.

No news yet on where Sky Movies Harry Potter and Sky Movies Harry Potter HD will be using.

We feel Sky Movies Harry Potter will be on Virgin UK Channel 404 and Virgin UK Channel 307.

That certainly isn't confirmation of the channels "coming soon" to Virgin Media. They don't give any time scale at all.

Sure, they will no doubt arrive on VM at some point and I do realise that the term "coming soon" has a for more flexible interpretation on this thread than it does in normal usage. My point was that ITV aren't actually confirming that these regional variations will be on VM any time soon.

Adding the services to satellite is a pretty simple excercise. Most of VM's HD output is line fed to VM's master headend by the broadcasters in an uncompressed format. So I assume Arqiva will have to provide this to VM & the DTT network in due course.

The channel guide (last updated Feb 2016) says that Nollywood is a premium channel, it doesn't say how much it is though.

I've known channels to be FTA on satellite, but in a pay package on VM eg Horror channel used to be in XL, but is FTA on satellite.

However, i've never known a premium channel go FTA on satellite and it remain premium on VM.

I don't think Nollywood is on Freeview*, so I doubt it'll go into M, possibly More TV , more likely M+.

*M package channels tend to mirror Freeview on VM, but if the channels that are FTA on satellite were to be included too, I think that this would be a really good selling point to get TiVo into more homes.

I would tend to agree that getting the line feeds in place is the most likely cause for any delay. I have already stated that the services will arrive on VM at some point. At the moment, ITV aren't being very forthcoming about the time scale involved. MB suggested that ITV had confirmed that these regional variations would be launching soon on VM. I was simply pointing out that ITV Viewer Services are actually telling VM viewers to use SD in these regions, without giving an indication of when (or even if) they are likely to arrive on the platform.

Yes but at what cost ?

Sky Q Silver is £54 rising in June to £56
Sky Sports is £25.50 rising in June to £27.50

£83.50 a month is getting a little silly just for TV

I fully agree - Sky may try to sweeten the deal with discounted broadband but it's getting too expensive for many now.
My concern is that they'll jack up the price of Now TV, too, which so far has proven reasonable, even with Sky Sports (the Sky Sports day pass is £6.99 or less).

It is getting outrageous, that's pushing £2.75 per day. I've scoffed at the idea before but maybe services like TalkTalkTV Store, which charges between £1.89 & £2.49 for the latest episodes of shows, is a more viable option? Even minus SKY Sports your £56 for Sky Q Silver will buy you 29 episodes of the latest shows in SD, or 22 episodes in HD from TalkTalkTV Store. Worth considering. Freeview, Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, NOW TV and TalkTalkTV Store would cover everything we watch in our house at a fraction of the cost.

Sky is now offering different products for different markets. Sky doesn't expect everyone to get Sky Q Silver 4k but there are some who will buy it. Sky Plus is Sky's mainstream offering whilst Now TV appeals to the budget conscious who don't mind the absence of high definition services.

They are all the same , VM are just as expensive and BT's offering is generally light on the ground with the pay channels most of which we rarely watch.

MB. Can you please explain something.
Surely, if a new channel comes onto the True channel network, surely it must go onto the VM system.

I know for a fact that True Channels, now have TWO channels that are NOT on the VM system.

True Movies 2, and Crime.

These channels are on other networks. So l cannot why VM cannot put them on now. VM are quick enough to put on 'crap' channels, that no one will watch.

Keep up the good work MB

In a nutshell no just because a network launches a new channel it doesn't mean vm or sky etc will automatically get it, it is all down to what contracts and deals are in place.
VM at the moment it seems clearly couldn't care less about their tv side of things and i think it will get worse before getting better.

Surely if Kellogs launches a new cereal then Tesco has to stock it? No.

It's important to remember that Freeview and Sky are open platforms. Sony just buys the capacity and EPG slots at regulated rates if it wants to launch a new channel.
If Sony wants to launch a channel on VM then it has to send its negotiating team to meet Liberty Global's negotiating team and strike a deal.
This is an inherent feature of the VM platform which has been mentioned from time to time. It means that a lot of channels arrive on VM after other platforms.

Why would they link the date into the Olympics start date. What on earth does that have to do with VM? Somethings not right there.

VM at the moment it seems clearly couldn't care less about their tv side of things and i think it will get worse before getting better.

exactly right mate

they cant even be arsed about getting freeview channels on the network. i cannot understand virgin medias lack of interest in the tv side of their product

Viacom are having a big overhaul of their channels, especially Comedy Central and MTV which have been performing badly of late: http://variety.com/2016/tv/news/2016...al-1201740247/

Amazon prime is fairly lacklustre. Which is a shame as the few things they've got they've just nicked from Netflix so double the price for the same content. Just like football....

Not really the case.

Very good current shows (currently broadcasting in the US) Vikings, Black Sails, Outlander, Turn, Halt and Catch Fire, Red Road, Rogue, Into The Badlands, plus a few others are not available on UK Netflix.

Got to agree. I prefer Prime to Netflix. Other shows worth a watch are Ripper Street, The Man In The High Castle, Mr. Robot, Copper and Fear The Walking Dead.

I have both Netflix and Prime. Netflix have quantity in terms of TV and Movies whilst, in my opinion, Amazon have the better quality when it comes to TV and Movies.

I think both services together provide content that is just as good, or even better, than the shows on SKY Atlantic, SKY One and FOX.

Prime also has exclusive rights to Studio Canal movies in the UK so tends to be better for decent British and European stuff than Netflix.

Well good news sort of, a Virgin manager I spoke with today confirmed TiVo 2.0 is launching in end of July, they will be available via QuickStart for £9.99 with no upfront fee, these boxes are rumoured to come with wifi and 4K. There will be two size options and redesigned user interface. Not forgetting a new revamped tv anywhere where recorded content can come on the move. A rumoured option to turn off SD channels where there is a HD variant and apps on test launch super fast

With US Tivo's, initially all you could do is download to your Tivo's hard drive, any video you had purchased from Amazon. You could not access Prime video.

Eventually Prime video was added to US Tivo, but the ability to download purchased video to Tivo's hard drive was taken away.

This, as far as I know, is the situation that exists today.

The Roamio got the update first, followed several months later by the Premier. Before that change to the Premier, it would have technically not been possible to add Prime to VM's Tivo, even if Amazon and VM did want to do a deal.

Interesting. If that's indeed the basic spec for Virgin Media's next-gen TiVo box it seems a bit underwhelming and looks like it is simply playing catch-up to Sky's new Q offering. I am still hoping that when the new TiVo box arrives it will take the opportunity to leapfrog Sky Q and give us a whole new generation of box.

PS - I'm not holding my breath.

Two things:
1) Anyone testing unreleased products has signed a non-disclosure agreement.
2) Anyone who knows what they are talking about wouldn't say something was "rumoured".

Draw your own conclusions.

If there is a new box coming then Virgin Media would announce it as part of a plan, just as they do with other product changes.

However just as with any other company, any product plans before an announcement are confidential so until it's announced then anything you hear is rumour.

It holds more price rises, more freeview channels that vm will fail to get.
But there are some goodies coming to vm tv customers in the next 6 months.

It would be nice if virgin actually would tell us some info

I have sources i can't disclose them for obvious reasons.
Once i'm allowed to reveal more information i will :)

As Spiderplant said anyone testing new products or software is under a none disclosure agreement, i'm testing the new ps4 software but sadly am not allowed to reveal any features etc due to agreeing to a none disclosure agreement.

Well in our household it generally does things pretty well although a bigger memory and more tuners would not go amiss that's for sure.

I know that l have asked this question before. But when is the True Channels contract come up for renewal.

As l understand that there is True Movies 2, and True Crime outstanding ?

And did someone say that a NEW Tivo box is coming out at £9.99 with no upfront costs - maybe wrong ?
