Big game for Arsenal then, they can lose and still qualify later on if results go their way but to be in with the best chance they must get something from this tonight then proceed to beat Olympiakos.

Bayern in no mood for an equal game here, all one way at the minute.

Zagreb lead in Greece, Arsenal's fortune changing.

Arsenal have reverted back to normal sadly tonight.

adzii_nufc 04-11-2015 22:06

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

It's not that Arsenal have reverted back to anything, this once again shows the massive gap between what's considered a top English club to that of a vastly superior foreign club.

Bayern were in cruise control at the Emirates, that much was obvious, Arsenal did brilliantly to take advantage but Bayern aren't in cruise control tonight. Every single one of their players is infinitely better than their Arsenal counterpart.

Neur > Cech
Lewandowski > by a few miles, Giroud.

It used to be close but they're so far apart now it's ridiculous. From Henry to Giroud? :erm:

This wasn't just an off night, Bayern have absolutely dismantled Arsenal, Possession, shots, everything. If you buy a defender from Newcastle United, then you're just asking for it.

Now it's 1-1 in Greece, the icing on cake for Arsenal fans tonight.

Talking about a free scoring club here, It's not as simple as a bad defence, it secures them fourth every year. Bayern need more credit than they're getting.

That's just ridiculous...That finish is just incredible, he just made Cech look silly. Muller is still a vastly underrated player.

If George Graham or certain other managers were in charge they would not be defending like the current clowns are doing and have been doing for many years.

Arsenal have to many lightweight fancy dan players who basically go missing when the going gets tough and there are many Arsenal fans who long for the days when they had a Tony Adams , a Patrick Vieira and a Thierry Henry to name just a few from their great past.

If George Graham was in charge Arsenal wouldn't be near the state they're at now where they can play Munich. Arsenal also have one of the best defensive records in the Premier League this season and this knee-jerk reaction to every single game is typical of how people follow football now.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

In fairness to Van Gaal, United have had more possession than any other team in the Premiership, and statistically have the best defence ATM.

I have been to every game at OT this season and with the exception of Club Brugge and Liverpool every other team set out their stall to take a single point with anything else as a bonus. Even Man City were playing for a draw after 20 minutes but in mitigation they didn't have Silva and Ageuro to call on.

And the score against the only two teams who did try to attack United, both lost 3-1. ;)

The last two games against CSKA and West Brom were possibly the most defensive with 9 or 10 behind the ball for most of the game.
Only this week Rafa was hailed as a tactical genius because Real Madrid hung on to an undeserved 1-0 win at their own ground against PSG.

I have seen United play better but I for one am not calling for Van Gaal to go, he has applied the brakes from the Moyes era and is slowly turning the ship around.:)

Alright, we'll use the impeccable form of England in actual competitions then and not the most lopsided qualification group I've ever seen

Starting from the last three major competitions.

2010 World Cup 1 win 2 draws and 1 defeat against that calibre of competition. Germany is understandable.

England 1 – 1 United States
England 0 – 0 Algeria
Slovenia 0 – 1 England
Germany 4 – 1 England

Euro 2012

France 1 – 1 England
Sweden 2 – 3 England
England 1 – 0 Ukraine
England 0 – 0 Italy (Italy win on penalties)

World Cup 2014

England 1 – 2 Italy
Uruguay 2 – 1 England
Costa Rica 0 – 0 England

Total wins: 3
Total draws: 5
Total losses: 3 (4)

3 wins in 11 competition games is absolutely dire.

You can see improvement in 2012 with Capello at the reigns, only for him to drop the job after bogus and numerous interference's with the England team by the English FA. Only to employ a lesser manager in Roy Hodgson.

If anyone excepts anything other than misery for 2016 then you're going to end up as miserable as the last 3 occasions.

Friendly or no friendly, we proved exactly where we are in regards to the rest of the footballing world.

Russ will be happy knowing his own Wales put more commitment into International football than the England team, I have full belief a team like Wales have the desire to take the game to a team like Spain or Germany. England on the other hand honestly just look like Newcastle playing against Manchester City.

We praise Rooney for breaking a record? what record? You're going to give a guy hero status for breaking a goalscoring record and having only scored 6 times on the major stage, put that into perspective with someone else on the list: Gary Lineker 10 goals in 12.. If I also recall correctly, he completely eclipses Rooney in one tournament alone.

Our nation is damaged when it comes to International football and we've made no attempt to fix that. We're not producing World Class players, Ross Barkley? Can we actually sit there and compare him to Muller or Iniesta, he's never going to reach the stature of either of those players and I don't really have the answers, I just refuse to buy into this utter drivel surrounding England, I refuse to get excited over something that's not changing any time soon. I want England to win a World Cup, I want them to win a European cup. It appears there's far more teams out there that or more committed and more organised to do this though.

That was a test squad last night with notable fringe players that already look miles better than our first team players. They way they moved the ball about was delightful, they gelled as a team and they played like one too, England simply don't or can't play like this and that's a massive problem. Teams win World Cup's, not individuals slapped together under an average manager.

Just a reminder that the ROI are in action tonight, as it stands they'll qualify for Euro 2016.

I can't stand the away goal rule, in the interest of fairness.. there isn't any. People dislike penalties but it's a far more viable option than being eliminated without actually losing.

Good luck to ROI but like above, I'd rather not see someone win on away goals.

For once you're not wrong.. at the very same time however you're stating something every fan on this thread already knew. You're comparing one of the greatest football managers that's ever existed...and in my own opinion here, the very best, to Van Gaal :D

Mourinho, maybe eventually? Ferguson is one of those last managers that was happy to stick at one club and create an unbreakable legacy, there's no SAF's around anymore.

You ask most supporters who they'd consider the greatest manager of all time, I'd say Fergie (Newcastle fab) and I don't think many other fans would have any shame saying the same. We're all die hard supporters of our own clubs, but some of us I hope are just infatuated with Football as a whole. Sir Alex and United created some memorable moments in English football, Cristiano Ronaldo and United's run the the Champions League final in which they overcame Chelsea on penalties, just glorious to take in. No quite old enough for 1999 but there's that. Ruud Van Nistlerooy ending Arsenal's unbeaten run. It's not just United, Arsenal's invincible season and the mesmerizing football they used to play, Liverpool in Istanbul and so forth.

Point being, I don't think anyone here expects anyone to influence United the way Sir Alex did, he's more than just your average legend nowadays. Sir Alex is literally The Premier League, he was a massive part of creating what it is today. More than any of that though, this solidified my utmost respect for Sir Alex, especially as a Newcastle fan and someone that among many considered the late Sir Bobby Robson as an Idol.

Denis Cheryshev plays the first 30 SECONDS of the second half, before he is promptly replaced by Mateo Kovacic.

While on loan at Villarreal, the Russian picked up bookings against Barcelona, Getafe and Real Sociedad in last season's Copa del Rey.

According to some reports in Spain, those three yellow cards mean Cheryshev should have been suspended tonight's last-32, first leg Copa del Rey tie against
the third-tier side.

Rafa Benitez not doing himself any favours.
Update on that post then: Real Madrid are disqualified from the Copa del rey

Just back from OT, in spite of the score it wasn't really a bad game.

West Ham possibly had the one really clear chance but only threatened spasmodically.

To be fair to Van Gaal, United did adopt a more direct style, especially in the second half. Instead of the recent three passes to the side, three back, three more to the side routine it was better.

They had four or five, swift, incisive, one/two touch, three/four pass moves from front to back which was just like United of old. Great to watch right until they got to a couple of yards from the goal mouth, then it all went pear shaped.

Can't see them getting anything in midweek though.:(

Well well Jose your time is up the way it is going down there at the bridge.

I cannot see Jose, lasting up till Xmas. The Bournemouth result, will give Abramowich the chance to sack him.

It is unbelievable that Chelsea are 14th in the table at Xmas. And l am NOT Chelsea fan. But they are better team, than the position shows.

The table doesn't lie, a few points here and there aside maybe you are exactly where you deserve to be and maybe it's because a couple of them aren't team players that they find themselves in that position, I'd say there's more chance of a player being sacked than Jose

Great equaliser for Valencia. 😎

Can you imagine Chelsea in the relegation dogfight.
Normally when clubs are down at the bottom its harder to stay up especially at Xmas

On a different note: Anyone seen Thenry? Not like him to be away so long.

No l have not seen head or tail of him but one hopes he is fine and well and hopefully he will come back soon enough as l always liked his output.

At the moment it seems half the team ain't performing and personally l don't think Chelsea did enough to freshen up the side last summer to keep players on their toes.

What are you thoughts TD??.

We're where we deserve to be this season. And I agree on your point about not freshening or strengthening what we had Den. I said before I can't see Jose getting the boot and I still feel the same. Two chances of getting into next seasons Champions League. Win that or the Europa this season  I thought the "False 9" at Spurs worked last week, but not playing an out and out striker from the start at home was awful. We're now going into plan P. Praying ;)

To my untrained eye it looks like they've grown old together to long and they have one particularly nasty piece of work up front that isn't helping the team on the pitch and is really effecting the team of it. He's not defending from the front, the attacking midfielders are following his lead, so is Fabregas and it's leaving the old defense exposed added to that he is causing unrest in the dressing room to boot, I'd put money on the reason they only strengthened the attacking options up front with Falcao was so they didn't put his nose any further out of joint. Seems strange that Jose took his eye of the ball and let the situation escalate. I've not seen enough of their games but against the hammers their work rate was not what it was or should be.

The question now is will they sack him if they don't reach the top 4 TD?.

How do I know that? If I were in charge though I'd sack Costa and keep hold of his registration or do what they did to Mutu all those years back.

After watching him from close up last season I wouldn't call signing Falcao 'strengthening attacking the options' :(

Really very sad to see such a class act deteriorate so fast, you are spot on with Costa though.

Exactly, that's why they got him, they didn't want a direct threat or similar ability to Costa as it would've upset him even more, poor little lamb, so they got Falcao in.

If l was a Chelsea fan one would hope for Costa to be sold and thus then bring in 2 top class strikers but as we all know top class strikers are not born on trees where you can just pluck one out willy nilly.

Even the summer its not that easy unless clubs are willing to break the bank.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Getting Falcao on loan was the just the cheaper option than buying someone, but he's not been the same since his injury at Monaco anyway so I wouldn't have bothered and kept Bamford in the squad. They are trying to be more frugal these days. And for all the sins of Costa which I don't agree with, I've seen plenty of others this season do things as dodgy, but you don't see them highlighted for an hour on Sky Sports News or after the match.

Agreed, Jamie Vardy for one likes to leave his foot in.:(

PS. Interesting stat for Den, when Klopp joined Liverpool they were six points off the top, now they are nine points adrift, just saying. :)

Nothing official yet but it's suggested Gary Monk has been essentially sacked as Swansea manager but will remain until a replacement is found. Brendan Rodgers is the leading target at the minute.
