Rodwell joins Sunderland

Published: 05 August, 2014
by Stuart Vose

OFFICIAL: Midfielder signs five-year contract.

Sunderland have completed the signing of midfielder Jack Rodwell from Barclays Premier League champions Manchester City.

The highly sought-after 23-year-old has penned a five-year deal on Wearside and joins for an undisclosed fee.

Rodwell rose through the ranks at Everton, making his debut at the age of 16 in a European tie against AZ Alkmaar in December 2007.

His league bow – as a substitute against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light – came three months later before the Southport-born midfielder went on to become a regular for the Toffees.

Rodwell, who has been capped on three occasions at senior level by England, made 109 appearances for Everton before joining Manchester City in summer 2012.

He spent two seasons at the Etihad Stadium, during which time he represented City in the UEFA Champions League as well as the Barclays Premier League and domestic cup competitions.

Welcome Jack :):):):)

The harder option in my book would have been to sign for MU as its a much more competitive league compared to La Liga which is a much easier option.

Stats show it isn't "much" more competitive

http://worldsoccertalk.com/2013/10/1...ar-comparison/

I think it probably is more competitive in England these days but that's not due to our top two teams getting worse rather than rest of the league catching up

the other team vying for 4th was arsenal, only because if they finish there again, it will be renamed a wenger :).

Interesting.

Must admit, I see Chelsea as favourites 9though obviously want man city to win).

And agree on his comments with Arsenal..but suspect most people do...look pretty, lack a bit of dig.

Liverpool? Who knows, they could either surprise like last year, or struggle....but guess we will see.

Travel possibly? Virgin trains are notorious for being a bit tight when it comes to last train back to Manchester and if the game went to ET and/or penalties then fans would have missed it so they decided to stay home and watch it on TV instead.

I went to see Arsenal at Old Trafford in the FA Cup a few years ago. It has a mad rush to get back in time for the last train to London, people packed onto it and were standing for the entire journey (i got a seat!). It's mad and that was a Saturday.

They looked like your players and cost a fortune, Richards, clichey, kolorov, nestasich(sp)

Is the £32 mil for mangala 100% of the transfer or just the chunk paid to porto for their share.

United sell out a 109,000 seater stadium in America, City can't sell 20,000 tickets for wembley...

Newbie RB Chambers was thrown in as a CB for Arsenal. At HT Arsenal put in LB Monreal next to newbie RB Chambers as CB partners which means Arsenal finished the game with an entire backline of full backs.

You would certainly have an advantage in London...I heard most of your season ticket holders live there :D

A fact that is often overlooked is that Man U have always had a larger 'percentage' of season ticket holders living at Manchester post codes than City.

They only fill the City of Manchester stadium when the big teams come to town.:p: Many times last season when matches where televised there where loads of empty seats in the home stands.

It is the middle of the main holiday season and the cost of travel and uncertainty of being able to return on the day would be the main reasons for the empty seats at Wembley though.

Nasty is still a good player, might even be of to arsenal if reports are to be believed.

Yes and their share is quite someway of 100%, can't remember exactly but porto owning 60% rings a bell

Yes, some indicated it might be a bad keeper error...but look at the lob..hard to save a shot like that...never knew he had it in him

i liked him at start...but he fell away...that said..several players did...so he might have picked up lescott habits of just getting rid of the ball..even if it is to the opposition :)
