I remember watching a very relaxing video with penguins on Landscape, good background music if you're just reading the paper or something.

Never saw the Landscape channel before but I guess this would be a great channel for HD, showing off the capabilities of your TV/Modern Cameras etc

Interesting rumour. This is not a rich channel and relies very much on the goodwill of other broadcasters to obtain airtime free of charge (but they don't get paid carriage fees).

If this channel does appear, it does look like VM are now thinking of the bigger picture. By this I mean that they are now willing to consider adding channels that make little or no money for the company, in the larger interest.

For example, an African Sky customer may not have switched to VM because of the lack of The Africa Channel. Although the channel does not make VM shed loads of money, it's presence may lead the above mentioned customer to consider VM and go on to take some profitable services.

In fairness to VM, they couldn't do this before the extra capacity was added to the system.

Morning friends. Hope the weekend was satisfying for you all! Woke up this morning and all my systems were down. Utterly tragic! I hope its fixed before i get home from work. I usually just get that its a fault but today on the service status message its saying

"We're doing some essential work on our network at the moment to make sure we're always giving you the best service possible. We'll keep any disruption to a minimum, but services in some areas might be affected temporarily. "

What does that actually mean...what is essential work?? I hope i come home to faster internet or something...

That was the rationale when replacing BBC HD with BBC Two HD. We're almost at the stage where all content is HD so having only two HD channels wasn't really sustainable.

One would think so and one would expect that channel will not be too far behind in coming to Virgin if Sky have any brains.

Spiderplant has confirmed that any 'Christmas Freeze' would not prevent any contractual changes ie if any channels are due to be launched over the holidays, they will be.

I guess that must mean that the VM concept of a freeze in changes (unlike that of Sky) is to simply avoid any maintenance to the platform, as opposed to an all out freeze.

Back in March Frank Warren suggested Boxnation HD would launch in about 6 months time. I was really holding out hope if would be on the air by the end of 2013. At the start of November the story about Boxnations parent company Media Nation being floated on AIM broke reporting:

"SPORTS PROMOTER Frank Warren plans to float Box Nation, the cable television station devoted to boxing that he set up two years ago. Nation Media, the channel’s parent company, hopes to raise about £5m from an AIM listing to fund expansion overseas, buy the rights to more events and create a high-definition version of the station. It is run by Richard Brooke, who was finance director at BSkyB."

The suggestion they need to raise funds in order to launch a HD version of the channel suggested to me it's going to be a while yet before the channel gets off the ground. I'm sure the new revised plan is first quarter of 2014 if the float goes as planned. I'm not sure if that is a realistic target after the article on the BBC website today:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-25298109

"It's said that launching a channel takes at least six months. We will have managed to launch five channels in five months. So I want to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to the brilliant team of dedicated professionals, across the BBC, our suppliers and our platform partners, who have been pulling out all the stops to achieve this for our audiences."

Of course not linked to Boxnation in anyway but an interesting bit of info.

Remember this article from a few months back?

http://www.theguardian.com/media/201...nnel-itv4-dave

About a month before this article I had been involved in a couple of marketing / feedback sessions regarding a new male orientated channel that SKY where considering launching. One of the names brought up in the session was SKY Bravo. When the Guardian carried the story I thought the cat was out the bag and expected to hear more about the channel. Since then nothing. I've sent the odd e-mail back and fourth to guys involved with the original feedback session and heard nothing, until today.

The Guardian have not got their facts correct at all. A combination of leaked information from SKY’s marketing session bunched together with some coincidental circumstances is the whole basis for their article.

The article suggests SKY registered the name SKY Bravo on 20th June 2013. SKY has not registered the name SKY Bravo at all. On the 20th June they actually applied to change the name of Bravo and Bravo 2 to SKY 1 and SKY 2 in the Republic of Ireland.

http://licensing.ofcom.org.uk/tv-bro...updates/072013

There is no delay for a new carriage deal between SKY and Virgin Media, due to SKY Bravo, as plans to launch the channel are firmly on ice.

Not to rub it in but for the avoidance of doubt there is another thing that needs to be clarified.

The following version of the article states "Sky has paved the way for resurrecting one of the former Virgin Media TV brands by registering Sky Bravo as a trademark."

Again SKY has done no such thing:

It's only 'maybe' launching soon from your perspective, because you have no confirmation. I think you'll find that its launch on VM is definite, it's just that the whole deal with Sky is clouded in secrecy.

If what Chad says is correct, it's the Guardian that should be embarrassed. Why criticise us for reporting what the media have said? We all like to read about what may be going on behind the scenes and so most appreciate being told about it. If you go around shooting the messengers you'll end up with no-one wanting to post about things they have picked up on and which will be interesting to people on here.

So, everyone, let's have a little more patience and understanding so that we keep the flow of information coming. ;)

I don't know what to believe to be honest. I was given information, which I believed to be reliable, from a very good source at SKY. However the link posted by 1andrew1 suggested the info I posted might not be fully accurate. Whilst my source was full of beans yesterday, gushing with information, he has went very quiet since I sent him a link to the info posted by 1andrew1.

No excuses. I posted information I believed to be correct. I should have tried to verify it further first. I got sucked in chasing the exclusive :D

I was also given a launch date for the new channel being July 2014 however I'll be taking that with a pinch of salt now.

Well, these things happen, and I'm sure that most people on here appreciate that. Others just like scoffing when things don't turn out quite as expected.

However, what people should not do is just make things up out of nowhere to get a response. That is what is reprehensible.

To all those who post on here in good faith: keep going and take no notice of those who just try and bring you down. This thread would be nothing without you.

We dont know its coming old boy so surely no one can say its coming and no one can say its definitely coming? So surely we can't say its definite? As you say deals between VM and sky are clouded in secrecy like all deals in tv and business are.

But no one can say the missing sky channels are coming. As no one can produce any evidence to say they are. Likewise no one can say they're not coming as no one can produce any evidence to say they're not.

It's SBS I believe but the people of Scotland would be very naive and ill-informed to vote Yes.

Good list, personally I'd like to also see Sky Sports 3 and 4 in HD, hardly ever watch them but when I'm forced to the picture quality is terrible.
