All they said when l phoned up the second time was that l had a voucher code on my account but not once did he mention or ask for my email address so obviously some staff do it differently from others.

Well, it's only when the offer goes on to the account does the option to confirm / change the email address the Netflix code is sent to.

So all the second person could do is confirm the offer was on the account.

The lady who arranged mine confirmed my email address and advised it would be sent to that address.

The Netflix 6 months free offer is only available to Premiere/VIP collection customers who do NOT have ANY loyalty discounts on their account, as told to me by UK customer services when I phoned 10 minutes ago. Told them that offer didn't mention this and they still wouldn't budge. They did offer a £30 credit to my VM account, but this isn't what I wanted.

Take it! The 6 months Netflix is only worth £36 and you get a free month when you sign up to Netflix anyway. They've practically offered you a credit of the same value as the offer you don't qualify for!

I have accepted it now. Will check my un-billed charges tomorrow to make sure credit has been applied.

What's the reasoning?

I used to have over 200 and treated it as an on demand menu so for me this is a huge backwards step. Especially since the new improved suggestions recorded an episode of Corrie the other day - it's never been more wrong!

And yet we had complaints from people on here who wanted to know how to switch 'Suggestions' off and some would keep deleting programmes that came onto the folder as if they were taking up room that they needed for recordings.

I guess you can't please everyone, but it might have been better to give people the choice in the settings, eg:

- Record suggestions
- Record up to 50 suggestions
- Do not record suggestions

I agree with Spiderplant that the way to look at the Suggestions folder is as an 'On Demand' library of programmes that is geared to your preferences. Diluting content in this way is indeed a backward step.

Could I please ask whether there is a use-by date on the activation code for the 6 month free offer?

I am hoping that if I go for the 1 month free off now I can then use the 6 month offer to get 7 months free Netfix to offset some of our £5.75pm VM increase next year.

The "Audio Description" channels are just the London versions of the terrestrial channels. If you don't have AD enabled, they will play exactly as normal.

Many of the regular channels (Sky, UKTV etc) also have audio description, but you wouldn't know unless you have AD turned on.

Is there any merit in waiting for the free four week offer to expire before applying for the 6 month free offer (so effectively, you get 7 months free)?

I'm not sure whether if you add the six month code to an account under the free month whether it'll follow on automatically or not. If it does, you might as well do it now.

It's not 6 months free, it's a £35.97 credit to your account (the current value of 6 months Netflix, but not future proof) so it should be safe to apply it now.

The six month offer from Virgin Media is simply a code to apply to your Netflix account.

You have to comply with the same requirements as any other Netflix customer in terms of payment when it becomes due.

If you sign up for an account as part of the Virgin Netflix offer, it shouldn't ask for payment details. If you sign up for a Netflix account, then apply the code, then normal Netflix terms apply

Has anyone had problems with there codes?

as last week i had to call up to get mine and when i added it it told me that it was the wrong code or had been used before.

So i call the CEO office about it as was not getting anywhere with CS and today they called me and said they had problems with some of the codes and was still looking into it.

i have just got a email with a new code in it and guess what that wont work as well as keep getting message saying it can not be added now please try later.

VM should have tested this all out before getting codes out to people.

However as things stand I won't be continuing with it after the trial period. The absence of any way to control what children can access is disappointing.

Trouble is, there is no way to stop you swapping users on the app - although at the moment the app picks up the main profile, so until profiles come to TiVo you could set the main profile to be the kids one

But even if you could swap profiles, kids accessing Netflix on Tivo could just select the profile used by adults.

It's a bit clunky, but leaving the setting for kids as the default and then when kids are in bed, change the setting to adult using the PC and then fire up Netflix on Tivo. Obviously keep the user name and password details from the kids, and swap back to kids setting at the end of the evening.

Even with profiles, I can't see any other way to do it.

Re: TiVo Update/Netflix

I've had a play with profiles, as Ben says not available yet for Tivo, and I know the app is pin protected.

Even if you could turn off suggestions it would be an improvement.
My 8 year old is still having nightmares from when she was at a sleepover with her friend. She watched a trailer for Chucky and it freaked her out.

I do trust my children not too watch such content, my 12 year old is a scaredy cat too ;), but there doesn't seem to be anything to stop suggestions coming up. for example if I watched Scream and the next day my 8 year old wanted to watch something she could be exposed to the image of Chucky as a suggestion.
I can't think of a way around that which is a pity.

Does that happen even if you set the Netflix parental control setting to 'Little Kids'? Profiles, even if they were on Netflix Tivo, wouldn't help.

I know (you can set profiles up on most Netflix devices), but profiles won't help your situation.

The only way for you to address your problem is to keep changing the parental control setting, depending on who is watching.

With you now. I was getting mixed up with profiles and parental controls. I can change the parental controls on my account and it will stop rated content from playing. That works exactly as I would like. I'm quite impressed with the level of parental control available and if I could use that with profiles it would be perfect.

The only snag is, without profiles, if I do watch stuff rated 15 plus it still displays the program icon in the recently viewed section. Not really a big issue for the likes of "House of Cards" but could be an issue if Chucky's image was the first thing to greet my 8 year old when she went onto netflix.

I may play about with the ratings and see if giving horror programs low ratings will stop them appearing as suggestions.

.

There is an option to say "not interested" on any program or film. That should help stop certain genres of films or shows from showing up in your suggestions too.

Does anyone else have a problem where sometimes you start a movie then it plays a few seconds then returns to the loading screen and hangs with the progress bar around 25%? Pressing stop takes you back to the movie menu, but pressing resume then takes you to somewhere in the middle of it. Usually restarting from the beginning works fine the second time.

At last my Tivo recorded a movie as a suggestion. Some people have already mentioned the same thing happened to them, so it looks like the latest update had something to do with it. I hope this happens on a regular basis, and not just a one off.

The only thing I wish now is if Tivo recorded all suggestions in HD when there is space available, and if there is a HD version of the channel of course.

Re: TiVo Update/Netflix

I've really lost heart with TiVo suggestions now. I used to have nearly 300 stored and used it almost like an od library. I used to love setting a recording for a show and then finding it in a folder of 9 other episodes of the same show that had been dragged up from the suggestions folder. Now it's limited to 50 in my book it's almost not with having any more. Real shame. I actually rarely use wishlists, as much as I think it's a good feature, so suggestions, three recordable tuners and automatic resolution of recording clashes were TiVo's main plus points for me and I think it's just lost one of those. Since I never actually had a problem when I had two recordable tuners I have to now ask myself whether TiVo is any longer the major selling point for me that it was pre-update.

Have just had a look on the community forum. Would appear that there are known issues still to be resolved with suggestions following the update (infuriatingly, these issues had apparently already been encountered in the US update, but Virgin dropped the code anyway) and at least one person had managed a refund of his TiVo fee as a result.

Since the update has anyone had problems with shows refusing to delete? The x appears to suggest they've been deleted, but they don't actually go from the list. This happens with all shows until the box is rebooted. Post reboot the shows delete normally. This has happened twice now.

Can't say the deleting is a problem, but my box is re-booting itself more than it has ever done.:(

Mine has done that a couple of times this last few days. Yesterday it did it whilst I had it on pause. I came back into the room to see the full TV Guide. I pressed TV and it returned to my paused channel. So it seems, in my case, to be not effecting all tuners?

We have a series link with a 4 minute buffer for Strictly but today it was being watched live. As the show finished I decided I wanted to record Sports Personality so pressed ok and record but because of the Strictly buffer it said that SP was already recording. So I stopped Strictly recording and then was able to set SP to record.

Was this the right process? Seems a bit convoluted to me.
