Update again (Also from Rumour poster 2):

An Rumour poster has now updated me to say Sky Atlantic will only be on the XL Package plus Sky Atlantic HD will not launch.

I'll throw a rumour just to make the full set.

Sky Atlantic SD will be in XL with Sky Atlantic HD to go into the VIP collection.

I'm a Virgin viewer and it's not confirmed ;)

They've never had the VIP package as an exclusive for HD channels. So unless they change their entire policy i can't see this one happening :)

The consequence of this will be that unbundled channels will get less money from advertisers. All that is likely to happen is channels will move away from linear broadcasting to pure on-demand content.

Unfortunately, some rumours are being created maliciously.

I think the most likely thing to happen is that all the missing Sky channels will launch together.

As long as you have a choice between paying for specific channels and paying for bundles. You tend to pay more when paying for channels individually.

off topic i know but i started being a survey "insider" back when virgin1 launched and still do them even tho sky took over the virgin channels. The last one i have just done seems to be based around the tech and apps i use (yes it is known to them i am a virginmedia customer) included in the list are twitter, facebook, pinterest, LOVEFILM, NEXTFLIX, nowtv. Are they looking to launch any or just seeing what the competition are going to offer do we think?

Further to my earlier post about this subject, whilst it seems like a good idea on the face of it to only pay for the channels that you want, I believe that the net result will be less choice, fewer niche channels, reduced funding for programmea and/or higher prices.

New Rumour:

Universal networks may launch a 3D channel in 2014 on both Sky and Virgin, this would combine the best of SYFY and Universal into one channel in glorious 3D.

The SD and HD channels of Universal and Syfy will carry on as now.

It was supposed to of launched across Telewest areas last night along with the TiVo update. I can only presume they must still be having freezing issues with the app which may be why it was delayed.

A Netflix question from the uninitiated :)

What would Netflix give me that I already don't have? I am on a VIP package.

I currently only have a V+ box but I believe with my bundle I am entitled to a TIVO.

Top shows on demand such as classics like Lost , Supernatural from season 1. Netflix exclusives such as Orange is the new black , Hemlock Grove.
Also you'd get Breaking bad , watch stuff when you want on two devices.
Top movies first such as The Hobbit a unexpected journey , Hansel and gretel Witch hunters , Troll hunter to name a couple.
Access to 1000s of hours of on demand content , classic movies , new movies. It's worth the £5.99 especially if used with a smart dns too then you get usa , canada etc Netflix too.

Good info there, just wondered is there a limit to the number of devices you can use with Netflix? For example could I potentially use it on Tivo, PC, iPad and PS3 or would I be limited?

A user simply accessing the UK Netflix like the majority do wouldn't get access to Lost or Supernatural.

Yes you could set it up on all those however with the £5.99 subscription you can only stream on two of those devices at the same time or pay £8.99 to allow four devices at one time.

The basic subscription you can use it on two devices at the same time say for instance you wanted to watch The Terminator on your TiVo box but your wife wants to watch Lost.
You could watch your movie on your TiVo box whilst your wife watches her shows on the laptop or vice versa.
They do offer a option for more devices this option is £7.99p/m or £8.99p/m i can't remember which lol and this will allow you to use your Netflix on 4 devices at the same time.
Device wise you can use it on any device you choose aslong as it's no more than 2 devices at the same time. So you can register a hundred devices if you want but you'd only be able to watch Netflix on any 2 devices at the same time , 4 devices if you take the £8.99p/m plan.

Smart dns is easy you pay about £3.50p/m follow the instructions unotelly give on their site and you're away. It gives you access to content on sites such as ABC , CW , Hulu , Fox , A+E etc too. You can get a 8 day trial with unotelly.com too what's more you can get upto 6 months free by simply liking their facebook page and sharing their page.
Do this once a month for 6 months and bobs your uncle you get 6 months for free.

Yes bring it on. The 3D on my TV is much better than the cinema and content is lacking. :D

This is a full list of Netflix content comparing what is available on the UK Netflix versus the US Netflix, with some titles being on both.

And there are also other Netflix regions that have differing content.

thanks for that but I am still puzzled why I would want this as well as my current VIP bundle which seems way more comprehensive. Even if the subscription was included in the XL bundle which had been rumored I struggle as to why I would want it unless I dropped the bundle I currently am on.

I think its the fact that you can watch all these shows at the click of the button for many series and movies which 1) we dont have access to i.e sky atlantic shows 2) for movies which we'd usually need to pay for?

Even if we do have access to these shows you'd need to record them on your tivo??? 1 episode a day etc. With this you have box sets at your finger tips instantly?

also with BT sport on xl pack and the rumor that netflix will be included will give people good reason not to go to sky.

could netflix replace Virgin On Demand which went from been a major selling point of VM and then overtaken by Sky on Demand. By taking on Netflix you essentially outsourcing your on Demand offering and Virgin movies

Actually Virgin are quite close the Atlantic. Any coastal roads in the south all the way to the south of Wales border the Atlantic. MAYBE THIS IS A SECRET MESSAGE THAT SKY ATLANTIC IS COMING SOON TO VIRGIN?

Said this before, and nobody responded. I think it's viable but they would have to keep on demand for Sky Movies Subscribers, Sky On Demand etc, it would only be back catalogue stuff they would have to replace.

Most BBC shows on Virgin OD (not catch up) are already on Netflix so the content will be duplicated.

That's been discussed before and seems like a good plan to me. I wonder how much the on demand content costs them compared to the price they could get Netflix for?

virgin on demand was truly groundbreaking to begin with. Had so many good shows etc before sky got jealous and went after the HBO stuff to spite virgin media.

Getting netflix as the replacement on demand service would make a lot of sense.

No doubt sky would try to buy netflix to again spite UK customers like a petulent child.

I'm will be very surprised at this if it goes ahead. Other channel operators seem to be exiting from the 3D market.

I've recently changed my tv service to sky 3d, I watch loads of 3d, and MGM HD, I ain't watched any SA HD at all everytime I flick on to it it's usually a load of rubbish on there.
3D is great, more 3d please whatever the platform.

I don't know whether this is over reading the situation but just seen an advert on Sky News which finished "only on Sky News HD" and showed channel number for Virgin 602 alongside Sky 501

Is this confirmation of an imminient arrival on VM?

Sky news is on channel 602 anyway most likely a error , but skynewshd is coming.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 5.

Ah sorry PB and ocav I didn't see that before in which case good point:)

With regards to cost I assume the as-is at the moment is vm have to negotiate with every owner of series they put on VOD so not only there is cost of supply but overheads of department, technology, legals etc so on paper it might look expensive netflix in the long run if they have negotiated a cut price for all they probably would look todo the above as netflix is essentially doing the same thing. This plausible the end game is netflix as standard rather than additional cost with presumably SSO with VM accounts to netflix

From the information that I have, VM seem to be the only platform that have shown any interest in taking 3D forward (with more 3D VOD content on it's way).

Discussions have taken place regarding the Sky 3D channel coming to VM. I am not privvy to the outcome of these talks, but it is worth noting that, in an attempt to gain more viewers for the channel, it is now partially unencrypted for more Sky subscribers.

When the channel started, Sky stated that the above was not possible.

If Sky 3D does come to VM, I think it will be the best platform of choice for the niche 3D market.
