Have to agree with this. I was a bit worried when we were linked with him. Granted he has a very good goals record in Holland but its a mile apart from this league. It's not a massive gamble if it doesn't work out but looking back I'm glad we lost out on luuk de jong too. We'll have to watch Altidore and Bony this year and see how it goes.
On our end however we seem to be settling on Darren Bent. Genius. The team with the so called quality of finishing in the top 6... I'd settle for safety right now...

You sure it's Darren bent your after Roy kinner said something about Marcus bent  :D

Tbh bent will be a good signing for your club imo, you know what you'll get from him, goals guaranteed.

Newcastle set to buy Jeroen Zoet from PSV Eindhoven to be keeper Krul's understudy
9 Jul 2013 22:30

Holland U21 international will presented to manager Alan Pardew as a done deal by Joe Kinnear and Mike Ashley

Newcastle are swooping for PSV Eindhoven keeper Jeroen Zoet in a deal set up by new supremo Joe Kinnear.

Holland Under-21 international Zoet, who has spent the last two seasons out on loan at PSV's Dutch rivals RKC Waalwijk, is heading for Tyneside after the clubs thrashed out a £2.5 million fee.

The 22-year-old will be understudy for fellow Dutchman Tim Krul, but his arrival may increase the chances of the Geordies' highly-rated number one being sold.

The transfer is the idea of Kinnear and owner Mike Ashley - manager Alan Pardew is being handed the shot-stopper as a done deal.

Zoet’s imminent capture will raise doubts about the future of Rob Eliot, who stood in for the injured Krul over the final weeks of last season.

No one at Newcastle earns more than 80k a week. So essentially the wage cap is at Colo who's on that but we wouldn't even allow Bent that to be fair.

Not too sure yet Den. I suppose Mignolet is the catch of the window so far, that's a sound bit of business. As for the others time will tell as I've not seen enough of Aspas and nothing of Luis Alberto to form an opinion. Of course it also depends on how Brendan Rodgers wants to set the team out next season which is something nobody really knows. Toure should do will providing he stays off the Mars bars and his wife's hormone pills.

Unfortunately for Suso, he's graduated alongside a crop of players who seemed to think they were better than reality dictated (Shelvey, Pacheco to name but a few) so a season out of the spotlight to develop a bit of composure and mental focus will do him the world of good.

Few have made large transfers however. Arsenal have made a small signing or two as well.

Evening Standard have said we're making another bid for Suarez. Not sure how I feel about that to be honest. Would prefer we get higuain but if Madrid are messing us around then I can see Wenger's reasoning, still I don't think he'll be a popular choice.

I really want Higuain too. not sure whats going on though. RM sya theres no bid, family of Higuain say theres an agreement with Higuain but clubs yet to agree and then theres the media reporting all kinds of stuff. think its safe to say theres no bid but discussions.

Suarez is a quality player but hes nuts. Arsenal are probably making RM sweat, flexing muscles. Suarez wants CL football. Whats interesting is Suarez never killed off an Arsenal move which is good news even if this is just Arsenal calling RMs bluff. win-win ;)

So if all the rumours about Arsenal are true, that means Wenger's spending this summer would come to around £100 million, before wages are even added on. And all the targets seem to be strikers. If he landed all 4 strikers, who would be preferred starting choice? For me Rooney and Higuain would be automatic starts, with Suarez taking a bench place. Maybe switching to a 3 upfront tactic, and incorporate Rooney, Higuain and Suarez into an attacking force that most clubs would muck themselves against.

Juventus Boss Antonio Conte Confirms Emanuele Giaccherini Heading To Sunderland

Juventus boss Antonio Conte has confirmed midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini is leaving the club, with the Italy international expected to complete his move to Sunderland shortly.

Sunderland and Juventus are thought to have agreed a fee for the player, with Italian reports suggesting an initial fee of around £6.8m, with extra fees based on appearances and goals.

Juventus boss Antonio Conte, when asked about Giaccherini's departure in a news conference, said: "Any departure is painful, but it is necessary in times of crisis.

"Each departure causes me pain. To me, every player is non-transferable, but I understand the needs of the club.

"If you ask me if I'm happy, the answer is no."

But reports in England and Italy claim Emanuele Giaccherini has been offered around double his salary to move to Wearside.

Giaccherini featured in every game for Italy in the Confederations Cup last month, finishing a memorable team goal against Brazil.

He made 17 appearances for Juventus last season, seven of those from the substitutes' bench, and with Giaccherini keen to cement his place in the Italy squad for the World Cup, Sunderland will be hopeful that their lucrative contract offer will persuade him to join Paolo Di Canio at the Stadium of Light.

Not giving them Walcott for a start. Why would he want to go anyway?

Suarez is a good player but I would find it difficult to stomach cheering him on. I would celebrate when he scored and so on but he is a player that brings so much trouble and is generally unpleasant.

Walcott will get a game at Arsenal. He was back to playing from the midfield late last season and was still playing well. He may not be first on the team sheet as he would be at Liverpool but he'll play a lot.

You've got to offer a carrot for them to sell to a rival and Walcott is that carrot, don't know why you so unhappy at the prospect of losing him Suarez is much better.

its all just flexing muscles, calling bluffs and of course differing. i wish they were decisive and completed the deals. the 2 stand out 1s are Higuain 25m and Fellaini 23m = 48m. if Arsenal and Wenger are screwing around over lets say 8m then they seriously need to look at themselves. whats Wenger going to do with 8m? buy another Gervinho! we've had a wage budget that has been wasted for a fair few years now, at least 50/60m WASTED yearly, socialist bullcrap and this incompetent bunch are trying to get out of paying around 8 million. we need Dein back.

Suarez is better but they wouldn't pay in the same positions. I would rather simply strengthen this summer rather than weaken in one area and strengthen another. We've already lost Arshavin and Gervinho may go, not too bad there, but if we lost Walcott then we would need to replace him as suddenly we'll struggle for attacking midfielders/wingers.

Yes he has. Last season and to a lesser extent to the season before he has found some consistency and ability to finish which eluded him in his early days.

The way it looks to be working is that Higuain is our first choice and if not we'll stump up more for Suarez. The only other club that seem to be serious about Suarez is Real Madrid so if they don't sell us Higuain they probably can't go after Suarez as they've spent a lot already and that would make Arsenal the only realistic prospect for him. Hopefully however Higuain will be sold to us and then Madrid are likely to go for Suarez.

Expect the Suarez situation to go on until the end of the window though. Can't see him going anywhere unless he hands-in a transfer request, especially not to another Premier League club.

He can't start the season anyway, he's out for the first 6 games. The smart tactic is to force him and his agent to hand-in a transfer request and offload him in the Christmas window having forfeited any loyalty bonus.

As far as I know the improved offer story has come from Bascombe who will suckle on the teat of whoever will pick up his calls.

Any predictions on league finishes?

Chelsea top for me. Newcastle good season 6-10th..bad season 18th. West Ham to look at europe if Carroll plays to his best. Swansea will enjoy European football but need to be wary of the effects. Sunderland are rampant in this window but the fans need to be patient now, they'll find themselves a bit shaky at the start given the influx of new starters but theyll start to bring it together a few months in.

1st Chelsea
2nd Man Utd
3rd Man City
4th Arsenal
5th Spurs
6th Liverpool

Newcastle dodged a bullet not signing De Jong.. he's your typical overpriced goal machine in Holland but nothing more than a cheap Torres emulator in Germany. Liverpool need another striker on the same calibre.. not a gamble. If they gamble at least try Leandro if not Benteke is a safer option

Wenger set to snub PSG and extend bumper £7.5m-a-season contract at Emirates
PUBLISHED: 22:28, 12 July 2013 | UPDATED: 22:28, 12 July 2013

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2362144/Arsene-Wenger-set-extend-deal-Arsenal.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
from the above link...

‘I am committed to staying longer at this club. I’ve already had a chat with Ivan. It went very well, not a problem,’ the 63-year-old said. But Wenger, who has been at the helm since 1996, insists the decision will not rest solely with him. ‘What I will always do in the future is not to use my longevity (at this club) as an advantage to stay in this position if I don’t do well. The contract will be decided in the future. That will depend on how well I do. I’ve always shown my commitment to this club and I don’t think I need to prove anything on that. Would my decision depend on how well next season goes? I am like anybody else, of course, it is important to see how well we do. I don’t automatically assume that I will be here. I think I knew when I committed to my last contract and the contract before that the club were going through a very sensitive period, because we had less financial resources and the challenge was to stay at the top and in the Champions League during that period. We are coming out of that period and I hope in the next two or three years the club will be competing for the Premier League.’

‘The link with PSG is there because I’m French and I know the owners. But if that was the case then I would be there already. My heart is with Arsenal. I’m not at PSG because my heart is with Arsenal,’ he said.

Wenger should complete the £23m signing of Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, while the club are also interested in Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez. Landing all three could prove a step too far for Arsenal, despite their increased financial clout, but Wenger admitted: ‘They are all realistic targets quality wise, but not all of them are available to join us. First of all, those players are under contract and it is the club who decide if they can go and, if they go, if they can join us. We have better financial resources than the years before and it is resources we have created ourselves. That is massively important to us. For years we were out of the race for the top-level transfers but we are coming back now because we are in a better financial situation and also because of Financial Fair Play. That will give everybody a bit more even ground. We must also rely on the quality of our work, on the style of our play and the fact we develop our own players. We will only use financial resources to bring in one or two players who will give us something more. We will see what we can do until the end of the transfer period and certainly before the new season starts. That’s what we are working on at the moment. The fans, the players, everybody is reassured by big names. But what is important is that we don’t need numbers, we need quality. We are working very hard and I’m confident we will be able to do it.’

Wenger added: ‘This is the biggest change in the top four in all the time I’ve been with Arsenal. Is the league more open than before? We don’t know, nobody knows. It feels like it should be, but it is not who sits on the bench who will be most important — it is the players on the pitch. But we’ve got the most stability and we hope to take advantage of that. There was a big gap between us and Manchester United last season and our challenge is to bridge that gap. But you go to Manchester City, they will want to win the league. You go to Manchester United, it’s the same, to Liverpool, to Chelsea, everybody will want to win the league.’
1 or 2 signings? thats it?!!! the rest makes sense but 1 or 2 buys?!! thats it?!!!
