Yes, but think of those poor unfortunates who have satellite or terrestrial.

A pay TV provider is no longer needed for 4OD , I have access on my Blu Ray player , two games consoles , iPad , iPhone , computer. Catch up TV is no longer the seller it was. I'm pretty sure at some point all the terrestrial catchup services will be on satellite , Sky are adding BBC iplayer and ITV player this year until then I'll have to settle for one of my many other devices to watch it on ;)

Yes YOU do, but millions don't. I don't think this channel is aimed at you.

But only available to boxes that have an internet connection. Most don't.

I'm pretty sure the majority have access to 4OD , however I will concede maybe not all on their TV.

Fair point , I believe the figure is around 4.3 million HD Boxes.

I think the point being made is that although these 4.3m boxes are connectable to the internet not many of them will be, hence no VoD for all. The beauty about cable is that one wire into the house can feed multiple tuners on multiple boxes and also provide a return path and VoD to all boxes (HD or not) whereas Sky boxes require a different cable for each one of these connections.

Heat owners Bauer Media part own 4Misic, The Box, Kiss, Magic, Kerrang and Q - All moving packages on June 1st on Virgin TV.

Channel 4 own the other half.

The link says one of them will close to make way for Heat TV to launch - My money is on The Box to be axe - The Box is only brand that is only on TV.

Since I posted the link the article seems to have changed. I didn't notice the launch date of 03rd July when I read it earlier.

The Box used to be "cutting edge" about 15 years ago. It's had it's day.

Brand Republic: Bauer axes Q TV after nearly 12 years to make way for Heat TV.

Media web site Brand Republic is reporting that Bauer/Channel 4 (Box TV) is to axe Q TV on Virgin Channel 338 to make way for Heat TV to launch on July 3rd.

Yes, there is an update every day. However, the "main five" channels only get updated on a Sunday morning.

(At least, it was like that when I had the S1 but there's no reason to think anything's changed :))

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 2.

The BBC are launching 20 odd channels for the Olympic period - it's been suggested by those that know that Virgin haven't spent ages upgrading the network for a just couple of weeks worth of extra channels, so it's fingers crossed for a few announcements towards the end of the year as to how they plan to use the extra space once the games are finished. Eurosport have relaunched their 3D channel ahead of the games, but might show some tennis and other stuff on it as well. Meanwhile AlibiHD and a new Channel 4 catchup channel should arrive soonish, and one of the 4Music stable is going to be replaced by Heat TV. As per usual, all the long promised updates (reminders etc.) are still awaited.

Think that's about the sum total of the last 61 pages :D

Tivo was less than a year to soft-launch; on-schedule, and around 3 months after that for availability to current subscribers. Again, on-schedule. No not "everything". I'm sure there are other examples but I don't take note of when things are announced and finally arrives.

Again, VM could announce everything that they're doing, or going to do, but then when it doesn't happen for whatever reason, people will moan. So they don't announce anything and people moan.

VM is too silent and it frustrates people. What they're not silent about is the size of their whatsit measured in download speed, and the wonders of Tivo.

I have to say they do a better job with Tivo than with broadband.

Every month about the week before the end of the month I look up the 1st of the new month on my V+ HD Box to see if any channels are set to close or rebrand.

I found that on June 1st Red Hot Fetish is being rename as Red Hot 18s on Virgin Channel 480.

Can't believe they are dumping the fetish for 18's :( I mean there is nothing wrong with 18's except they really don't know what they want at that age, but fetish people they know exactly what they want, don't they

Did anything ever come of that rumour that was doing the rounds a couple of months back that a few channels were going to launch in June including Dance Nation, Information Tv and Sony Movie Channel?

Nope

Nothing will happen until after the Olympics now, afterwards there will be a load of spare capacity on the network for VM to fill

Channel 4 to launch THREE Sports Channels for Paralympics coverage.

The Following is thanks to Digital Spy:

Quote:

Channel 4 has today outlined its plans to offer the "most extensive coverage" ever of the Paralympic Games in its role as host broadcaster.

More than 150 hours of all-day coverage will be shown by Channel 4 during the 12 days of the London 2012 Paralympic Games this summer. The live coverage will be shown on Channel 4, More4 and online at Channel4.com.

Alongside the core TV coverage, Channel 4 will broadcast three further streams of uninterrupted live coverage of a range of sports from the Games.

The three dedicated channels will be available on Sky in standard and high definition versions (launched in the Sports section), as well as online at Channel4.com. The broadcaster said that the channels are "also expected to launch on Virgin Media".
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/media/ne...-coverage.html

The Paralympics games will run from 29 August and 9 September 2012.

The interesting thing in that article is confirmation that "The three dedicated channels will be available on Sky in standard and high definition versions. The broadcaster said that the channels are "also expected to launch on Virgin Media".

The 3 channels in question are Channel 4, Channel4.com plus More4. So More4 HD coming real soon then?

I think the extra channels are new screens as DS says:

Quote:

The three dedicated channels will be available on Sky in standard and high definition versions ((To) launched in the Sports section),

So it will be like this

Channel 4
Channel 4 HD
More4
Channel 4 Sports 1
Channel 4 Sports 2
Channel 4 Sports 3
Channel 4 Sports 1 HD
Channel 4 Sports 2 HD
Channel 4 Sports 3 HD

Oh I see. Looks like I misread the article. Well let's hope that More4 does launch in HD in times for the games. If they don't, it'll be the only TV channel in their proposed line-up not broadcasting in HD which seems strange. You'd think they'd go out to deliver all the action in HD, especially since they will be launching 3 dedicated HD channels.

How come whenever Virgin do add something to XL like a new HD channel or On Demand content we never get people posting that the XL package is even more value for money than ever before.

XL got loads of new content last year which guys on M+ and L didn't get. I don't have a problem with them getting access to 5 fairly unpopular music channels. Us XL customers after all did get treated to 7 new HD channels last year at no extra cost! For me that is great value from Virgin. Oh and I love my SKY Anytime in HD too which our chums on M+ and L don't get!

I know. It's really annoying. The XL pack hasn't been "de-valued" for me as I don't watch any of those channels anyway.

I am happy with the XL pack but it would be better if we could also have Universal HD

Can anyone on the M+ or L Pack see any new channel on their pack that they did not have yesterday - that will be the June Freeview channel if Virgin are having any this month.

We have price increases to cover the costs of the extra content you mention, I don't see the price going down when we loose content (either all together or a tier review)

This very thing was a major issue for Virgin when they lost Setanta Sports back in 2009. Virgin took the stance that the XL package didn't go up in price when they added the channels, so the XL package wouldn't go down in price when the channels where removed. Seems a fair policy to me. I always find Virgin do try to replace channels with either a similar channel, or extra on demand content if and when a channel closes down.

But was that "to cover the costs of the extra content you mention" or just 'in general'. I can't remember the last time we had a specific increase in the price of (for example) the XL pack outside of the general, yearly price increase.

Prices tend to go up now down ;)

When does soon become ages? 2 months? 6 months? Some of the channels that VM are reportedly in discussions for have been coming soon now for years. I would much rather it for someone to report on here or on VM's own support forums that 'Yes, we have been in discussions to get XYZ, but it aint going to happen, not in this financial year anyway, maybe in the future when other contracts are up for renewal with X-TV we will try again to add this channel to our line-up but untill then it won't be coming to Virgin Media anytime soon, Thank You'.
A boss of another cable company seems to be comfatable putting out those kind of statements.

I have long said for a communications company VM are very poor at er..........communication !

As you have said the other cable company boss seems comfortable putting out statements to his customers ie a couple of months ago he communicated he could not negotiate for the ITV HD channels.

It was hotly debated on here about two years ago VM were trying to get History HD but seemed to bite the dust, then fairly recently Al Jazeera but as you have said they never seem to have proper conversations with us ie the people who pay the wages ultimately.:(

So why bother?

But is it wise to let the competition know your plans? He probably doesn't need to worry about spoiler campaigns, but unfortunately VM do.

Its alright having plans but the problem with Virgin's plans is they seem to go at a snails pace and in that time competitors have already gone round the block several times over.:)

4Seven to let viewers pick two hours of broadcasting per day.

Guardian has reported today more info on 4Seven but still no channel number for it on Virgin Media - I think Virgin will give it channel 143.

From July 4th?

141. Channel 4 HD
142. Channel 4 +1
143. 4 Seven
