Re: Renewals & Cancellations

Yes, I'm pleased, however .....

The first two series have been 13 episodes, so I wonder why they have cut this down to 10 - it has that feel of "this is your lot, wrap it up".

General Maximus 12-07-2016 12:49

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

true, they have moved on from the virus in season 1, they are going to wrap up the impending apocalypse/messenger/don't mess with time story line this season so I don't know what they are going to do next season. Although I can't see it taking 10 episodes, I would like to see them go on the attack with perfectly planned and researched series of splinters to go back in time to key points in history where they know they can make minor changes in order to bring about a fixed and perfect time line without the virus, the 12 monkeys or the tall man etc. Sort of like what the bad dude was trying to do in the Year of Hell two parter in ST Voyager.

General Maximus 13-07-2016 22:55

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

sooooooooooo, is it just me or are you thinking the witness is Dr Railly? I thought it was Cole to start off with but I can't see him ever killing Ramsey unless the future Cole knows Ramsey does something unforgivable in the future which present Cole doesn't know about.

Just picked The Last Ship up. It's not a massively great show but its certainly watchable and likeable.

As for the 12 Monkeys discussion above. 10 episodes isn't a massive cut but expect an even shorter season 4 should they decide to keep running it that far. Viewership is tanking and given its status and limited broadcast audience it won't be long before it starts making a loss. Its unfortunate but as an Original network production there's nowhere else to go.

The Last Ship has been renewed for a 5th season in addition to the pending 4th. I wish they would do this with all good series so we didn't have to stress over them. They obsess over the ratings and stuff but if you guaranteed a series a minimum of X seasons then the writers could sit down and hash out some good quality stuff and a story arc and take you on a journey with the characters. I am making my way through TNG atm and I really do miss 26 episode tv seasons.

Paul 11-09-2016 01:12

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

Nice, Shame the forth season is only 10 eps, not 13 - the 5th season will be the same.

General Maximus 11-09-2016 08:32

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

it is. The good news for us (like GoT) is that if they know they have got 2 season and 20 eps left, they can sit and really think about what they want to do with the story and make sure every episode counts. Most series (e.g. Dark Matter) are good but are a bit up and down. You always have what I call padding episodes mid-season where you can see they are trying to cut down on the special effects budget. The thing which I love about TLS is that every episode is excellent and moves the story forward.

Luke Cage has been renewed for a second season, no details yet on when its likely to be available, but based on other renewals, most likely in 2018.

General Maximus 11-12-2016 16:35

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

that sucks. I have read about the reasons behind Westworld's delay but I don't get this. There are certain series (e.g. anything Marvel related) which you can pretty bet are going to be moderately successful and definitely not get cancelled in their first season. I read that right off the bat they wrote a 5 season story arch for Westworld so it is all planned out so I don't understand why with stuff like Luke Cage we have to wait over a year for another season. The gap (like BSG) can only harm them.

Paul 11-12-2016 22:14

Well in this case, its simply (I believe) because they are working on the Defenders & Iron Fist atm, they only have so much "capacity" I guess.

Cool. If it is the same team doing all the series for Netflix i hope they dont stretch themselves too thin like Greg Berlanti & co have done with their DC stuff. I dont think Marvel will let it happen, they care too much about the quality of their work.

I first heard of it months ago when it popped up on the new series list on my tv calendar and I ignored it at the time thinking it looked a bit meh but then just before it started before xmas SFX did a feature on it and it sounded interesting so I gave it a go. It is one of those series where the premise sounds good but it is what they do with it and where they take it which determines whether it will go on or not. Tbh the acting was a bit sub par but I let it go because there was an absolute babe in it.

really pleased about Travelers. It is a bit of a niche series and I was worried it was going to be cancelled. I don't know whether you have heard or not but BCS has given the go ahead for a prequel series to TBB about Sheldon growing up as a 10 year old. Tbh I am not sure it is going to take off. I was expecting it. I think I got to 1x04 of Frequency and whilst it was an interesting concept (not the talking to talking to someone in the past through a radio but the idea of altering events in the past changes the future) the story and characters didn't grip me. I think I would have given it a go when I have time if it had been renewed but now that it has been cancelled there is no point. It is the same with The Tomorrow People. Interesting idea and I watched the entire season (series) but it didn't feel like there was any substance to it. Same with Star-Crossed now I come to think about it. I like it because it is sci-fi but they all feel a but hollowed out because they are appealing to YA demographic.

I knew Barrowman was pushing it, I mentioned the possibility somewhere else but by god he's actually pulled it off. (sort of)
Torchwood returns, X-Files goes even further, what planet am I on?

I wouldn't be too disheartened by the audio series, I'm almost certain this is to drum up support and an audience for the TV return. I can't see him wasting his time if it didn't have the possibility of something bigger, he was pestering people last year to revive the entire thing and did mention some form of progress, so one could assume that this is the progress.

It can work in the same format the CW pull their crossovers to be fair, it just needs the effort on BBC's part, which isn't easy to get and the bit where there's no desire to do that

I don't think it needs a full fledged return, it simply needs a Children of the earth like special week. I presume that's what Barrowman was after too given he's been in every season of the DCTVU in some form and given the way that's filmed, his schedule is limited.

With Class building up to what was a giant mural of an Angel over London, that's surely too much for a group of school kids to be messing around with, something surely the Doctor himself couldn't miss or at the very least, roping in Torchwood Cardiff, also worth noting that via lore, Torchwood Cardiff is brought back by Gwen Cooper in 2017.

As of yet, Class appears to be going nowhere anyway. The least they could do is make something from the typical cliffhanger ending but we're not gonna bother renewing the series scenario.

All in all, I think Barrowman has agreed to this because he thinks it'll drum up support for at least a TV special on BBC that is and not the absolutely horrible Starz garbage we got.

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

Not something I personally watch, but NBC has renewed Taken for a 16 episode Season 2.

Watched 1x01 and gave up. I hate it when you get a series/story that operates out of some empty space/warehouse with a small team of people who seem to be to have access to everything and be able to do anything. It is just an excuse to be cheap.

It did get better and the last series was fantastic.

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

Quite surprisingly The Originals has been renewed. I do enjoy watching it but I was honestly expecting it to get the can after TVD finished.

For those of you who enjoy The Blacklist, it has also been renewed for a fifth season as well.

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

As well as The Originals, the following were renewed ;

iZombie, Gotham, Agents of SHIELD, and Blindspot.
The last one I actually gave up on a while ago, its renewal was surprising.

Sadly, Timeless was cancelled, I enjoyed that.

Once Upon A Time has supposedly been renewed, but no official announcement yet.

Still no news on Elementary, but its looking bleak.

Sweet, The 100 is getting a fifth season. For some season I thought the current forth season was the final one.

I don't remember doing it at all and it probably won't be the only time it is going to happen either. I had an accident a few days before xmas and really hurt my back and was in hospital for two weeks over xmas and the new year. I won't bore you with the details but I am on a tonne of meds which have various side affects while my nerves repair themselves. One of the side affects is short terms memory loss. I know it's a bit cliché but most days "I can't remember what I had for tea last night".

On a brighter note, Designated Survivor has been renewed for a second season. I am well chuffed because I love it. It wouldn't have been a huge loss if it had been cancelled though because he would have gone back to 24 which I love even more.

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

I watched Designated Survivor for about 5 episodes, but got bored of it.

It really felt like 24 under another name, and I got fed up of 24 a long time ago.

I agree and I couldn't get enough of 24 which is why I am hoping he is going to come back. It isn't going to happen while Designated Survivor is going though. I think the same people produce it as those who do 24 and if you listen carefully in one of the eps when they are in the White House you can even here a ctu ring tone in the background. It made me smile :D

I have enjoyed the new series of 24 this year, it was still pretty good.

Sometimes l find some series get tired and go on for too long personally.

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

the new one was good but didn't have the connection and depth to it because we had no connection to the main character. Poor Jack has been through so much :hugs:

So Timeless has been uncancelled and will now get a second season

Man, Wyatt Logan and his team have changed history yet again: Timeless is coming back for a second season at NBC, despite the network cancelling the time-travel drama just days ago, TVLine has confirmed.

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

I just came across this myself :D

Quote:

... the network has course-corrected its initial decision, renewing Timeless for a 10-episode second season, to premiere spring or summer 2018.

The second season was salvaged after producers Sony cut Timeless‘ licensing fee, making it more viable (cheaper) for NBC to continue the show.
Very happy to hear this.
