The 3D stuff being broadcast on Channel 4 and the Chuck episode on Virgin 1 are old tech. Proper 3D is the stuff Sky has planned for later this year, with proper 3D glasses.

Yes, but the TV's are currently very expensive and not yet on sale. It'll be a while until we see them.

It's also far worse than 3D with glasses, you have a very limited number of viewing spots, and if you're not sitting exactly in one of them then it looks awful.

That's only a problem if loads of people are in the room watching. For day to day family viewing it'll work fine.

C'mon, it's hard to begrudge Sci-Fi for rebranding to SyFy. Sci-Fi is such a generic term they couldn't market the name as a brand. Now they can.

I could not imagine having to wear glasses every time i wanted to watch tele. I have seen them in the cinemas they give you these modern cool ones but i think me and my wife would not be able to take one and other seriously if we had to look at each whilst watching tele and having a conversation lol.

For some couples that might not be a bad thing :)

For others, might even help lol

No it's not.

Even family viewing if your set isn't the right distance from the sofa then the seats will not be the right distance apart for the viewing positions.

Number of people viewing is far less important than the location of the viewing positions, and in most living rooms you simply don't have the control over the seating positions and distance from the screen that it needs, you can't adjust them on the TV, so your seating HAS TO line up with them, and that means that your 3 seater sofa has to be a specific distance away from the TV for all of the seats to be in a viewing position.

Whilst it may not be practical, I'd rather have to move my sofa a bit to get a decent 3D effect for all who sit on it, than miss out on 3D all together.

Media Boy EXCLUSIVE: More areas join NGTV this week.

Today saw Virgin Media adding BBC Radio 4 LW and BBC Radio London to viewers in the Teesside Region.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) will see Virgin Media adding BBC Radio 4 LW and BBC Radio London plus BBC1 and ITV 1 on 101 and 103 will now also show the correct regional version for customers in the Grimsby Region so that customers will no longer need to tune to 858 and 870 to receive the correct channel.

On Thursday Virgin Media will be added all the missing BBC Branded Channels as well as Magic and Kiss Radio to viewers in the Uddingston Region.

What do you mean? The card swap has to be done after an area (local head end) has been moved over to NGTV. There is a rollout programme that is going really well. All cards have to be paired with the exact box it's going to be used with also.

I don't want anymore channels.

It is hard enough watching all the tv shows as it is.

Glee , mad men, caprica, csi, the good wife, criminal minds, modern family, mentalist, big bang, true blood, etc etc

More Hd will get me watching shows because of the detail.

Arrrgggghhhh, damn it..go on...I will just suffer and watch more tv..I can always quit my job :)

It is hard enough watching all the tv shows as it is.

Glee , mad men, caprica, csi, the good wife, criminal minds, modern family, mentalist, big bang, true blood, etc etc

I had my new cards today, and to be honest, there is no difference, apart from silly +channels, and what does this NGTV mean, and l for one would be glad if they got rid of that horrible black color on the guide.

NGTV mean Virgin will add BBC Radio London and BBC Radio 4 LW plus BBC News Multiscreen to all Ex-ntl or Ex-CW viewers.

And Ex-Telewest will get 13 TV or Radio Channels (BBC Radio Scotland is one of them.)

Also Virgin will also post your new viewing card out to you after that.

Here is the list of areas who has been updated by Virgin Media so far - As of 24/02/10:

Barnsley
Derby
Edinburgh
Grimsby
Leeds
Leicester
Luton
Nottingham
Seven Kings
Southampton
Teesside
Watford

Just noticed today in Grimsby, that local news (Look North) is finally on channel 101, as it should be instead of 858. Before today, I got East Midlands Today on 101. Does this mean my Headend has been changed (not sure about the correct terminology)?

Yes - you will also see BBC Radio 4 LW (Channel 911) and BBC Radio London (Channel 937) on your box as well.

May I ask is Channel 858 still broadcasting?

Everyone is moving over to 1 super-headend (Langley), NGTV is part of that upgrade... also it's the start of the new encryption system (no more cable pirates!) and the start of the change over to ipTV.

HTH

I wonder if the new HD channel will be ESPN America HD. It's been unofficially confirmed by some European/Scandanavian providers but so far no news on UK carriage and no official announcement from ESPN.
