It cant be a co-incidence that they've talked of 6 HD channels and 6 are testing

It would be just like VM to say HD are a few months away and then say

SUPRISE - we got them early 4 u.... aren't we great!!!! :D

I would honestly say, that VM will get HD channels, and that is when Spurs next play in Europe.

We have been told this by VM, for the past six months, they always say, we will launch shortly, and it is alright people saying that l am moaning about this, but everyone on this forum is saying the same thing - WHEN.

Film4 to broadcast an extra two hours from May 23rd.

It's been announced that from Saturday 23rd May, Film4 will be extending it's broadcasting hours with transmission beginning at 11am on Virgin Channel 444.

That also mean Film4 + 1 will start at midday on Virgin Channel 445 on the same day.

it could be for either sd or hd, test channeols ar enothing more than that virign testing bandwidth it does not mean there channel goign ot launch soon just tests getting done like virgin tested 200mb in there labs.

however if a channel that aint on the network appears in testing then it mostly likely launch within 4-6 weeks

.....VM have not said what they will use the old Trouble slots for. If they wanted to launch a living 3, they could've easily done that when Trouble was axed.

Not necessarily, baring in mind there was already about 30 free slots available for new channels before these new tests.

As VM turn off an analogue tv channel it frees up space for at least 6 digital SD channels and more capacity will become available soon as more analogue tv channels get axed.

Whether VM use the capacity for new SD channels, HD channels (unlikely in my opinion as they don't have access to Sky's sports and films HD channels) or broadband, is known only to them.

Launching a new channel isn't a quick process. There will be a new Living channel (name yet to be announced). Meanwhile Living+2 is holding the slot.

But it is now a week on and according to my planner there are 12 programs available - more than a quarter of which are childrens programs.

A total of 7 hours programming (and that is being generous as I have rounded up). There is approx 9 hrs programming per night on the BBC HD channel, so over the week a total of 63hours of programming. Even if we assume that 3/4 of it is repeats that should still be 15 hours of "catch up".

Now dont get me wrong I am happy that there is a bit more HD programming on the system (and as I said I dont blame VM for this) but it does feel a bit poor.

Granted there isnt much more on the iPlayer website - but overall pretty poor.

I held back from updating this post because I had a reply that said (and I am paraphrasing) its only been a few days so everything is pretty good really.

Well it has now been another week and we still have very little on the HD catchup page. Great if you wat to watch doctors or kerwizz (that makes up half of the listings !!) but very little else.

As I said before .... probably not VM fault but come on, it really isnt very good is it!

Remember its down to the BBC what HD programmes are shown on there and if you look at the listings for BBC HD there really isn't too much on it. So it may take a while for stuff to appear on it.

The notion of taking an established brand (UKTV), flushing it down the toilet, and creating a fractured mess of random and utterly retarded channel names defies all logic. It's the polar opposite of how to create a brand.

yep, all these crappy channels rename themselves atleast once a year it seems, there is no brand at all, i can only presume people dont watch so they rename and people think, ooo whats this new channel but then realise which channel it was before and stop watching instantly.

I was beginning to think I was the only one who thought that! at least before all these channels had the the prefix UKTV the public were aware they were the same brand, now they are a loose smattering of channels that it looks like a eight year old has named.
Add to all this the time and money this entire exercise has cost, and you begin to wonder if there is anybody at the helm.

Well..... It would be quite unlikely, I think, but you never know. I don't think that there was a whole lot of warning before Sky Basics came back, and this is certainly the first rumour I've heard that claims to have come from inside Sky.

I wouldn't believe a thing an engineer \ installer says. All the VM ones say HD is coming soon and list channels etc but they are never right

Amazing how some of these engineers are privy to the innermost secrets of the boardroom. Maybe the chairman just bumps into them outside when he goes to light his Woodbine and chats through the smoke haze.

Who knows could be right or maybe not, ofcom have had a premium content pay tv review (to do with HD content and access to it) ongoing for a while, if its true sky might be selling to head any regulation off.

Just before the sky basics came back on vm, sky had an intensive media campain to get people to switch, with the line "not currently available on vm," and at the moment they are having an intensive HD campain, could it be once they have maxed out their takeup, and most would be HD customers have signed up to a new 12 month sky contract, the sky channels suddenly appear in HD on vm,only time will tell.:)

Good point richard1960 no one had a clue about the sky basics coming back up until 10 days before they came back on air out of the blue. Plenty speculation but nobody had a clue.

Acutally some people did but you will find they would have been on tight mouth orders for obvious reasons

Time and again ilovehd, this forum proves to be mega unfriendly. If anyone other than the 'regulars' post or report things that other people don't know then it must be untrue and your branded a liar or simply bigging yourself up to make yourself look good!

I personally believe this is what you have been told and I say thanks for sharing it.

They do seem to be taking their time making HD available. I can't believe a media company as big as VM only have the one HD channel. It's pretty laughable really, especially in this day and age.

I wouldn't take the fact that people on here don't believe you too personally. Since BBC HD launched (and itvHD for a while) every single post claiming that new HD channels are coming have been nothing but untrue.
I have given up believing any rumours about HD channels and like most people, will believe it when I see it.
P.S I'm talking about HD channels, not content, which has increased lately and could indeed be a good sign of more channels coming soon.

Hi Product13, You have said exactly what l have been saying for months, yet some forum members don't like it, VM is supposed to be a major TV company, and yet seems to be stuck between planets, Earth and planet truth, Its like a piece of string, where does it end.:)

I agree. Ilovehd, I don't think that we're shooting you down per se, but everything we're heard so far, including comments from the CEO, have turned out to be wrong.

Some of us are probably rather bitter about it all - I know I am - and a few of us are geeky enough to care about the cable platform itself! So you've got people who are tied into contracts *and* those who think it's a bit of a waste of potential, all wanting HD on VM - I'm both.

I must admit that I was very tempted to just dismiss your post, but as I said earlier, it's intriguing because it is (to the best of my knowledge) the first bit of info purporting to have come from inside Sky. Who knows?

Sam

PS. Ilovehd, I hope you don't feel that I was shooting you down.

PPS. Ilovehd, bit of advice, if I may: don't call people "tools"! Nobody will take you seriously if you do :)

NBC sets out major overhaul of UK channels

NBC Universal is planning a major UK shake-up that could see most of the channels it acquired from Sparrowhawk Media disappear.

Sources told Broadcast that NBC is keen to bring its UK channels into line with those in other territories.

It is considering rebranding Movies 24 to Universal Channel and also starting up ''Oxygen'' in the UK, which would mean Diva TV could either be absorbed or marginalised.

Bauer radio stations leave Virgin Media

There was an announcement last week that Bauer's radio stations (including my personal favourite, Q Radio) were leaving Sky, but it appears they've also been taken off Virgin Media this morning too.
Not all have gone (Magic is still around) but most are no longer on cable. So bid farewell to radio stations Q, Heat, Smash Hits, The Hits and Kerrang. They're still on DAB and Freeview, and no word if the TV channels of the same name are hanging around.

Virgin testing out 7 new Channels off their EPG - update.

An Ex-C&W viewer has told me that Virgin Media has stop testing ''VMTest1'', ''VMTest2'', ''VMTest4'', ''VMTest5'', ''VMTest6'' and ''VMTest7''. And they all been removed from their Virgin Media box.
