Randy Lerner is one of the best chairmen in the league. Despite being American he listens to the fans and always puts them first. Not suprising he's done something like this. He's often at games and you can see there's passion there, not just business.

I thought it was a decent game, chances for both sides throughout the match, it just lacked goal's. Fair play to Spurs, they didn't just sit back like some teams do against us, they really had a go. Although it went to penalties i think the better team on the day won, especially as we should have had a penalty in the second half.

Chuffed to bits we won, gutted it was a bad game (has there been a good final at that place yet?) should have had a Pen and hit the post, we deserved it.

I applaud Spurs for there performance, and the way they held Man Utd, l do honestly believe, the game should have gone to a replay. Such as done before, This is the way Spurs have been built, my only moan is, why can't Spurs play that in the PL, Well played lads.

I ask that question about many a team in the Prem when they play UTD! I know we are a huge scalp to take, but even players at the bottom of the Prem are on good five figure wages, that should be enough. Watch Spurs go back to mediocrity on Wed.

The best chairmen are the ones that are never heard from. Doug Ellis was a prime example, on the TV more than the manager.

The boys in Pink, Oldham Athletic v Leeds.

http://www.oldham-chronicle.co.uk/ne...g-on-the-blues

I thought this was funny.

'Even Chaddy the Owl swopped his blues for pinks leading to complaints from Leeds players who said they were confusing the 8ft owl with Latics players!' :D

Leeds fans haven't changed much over the years.

The lone arrest was a Leeds fan who was charged with assault. He is alleged to have broken the back off a seat in the Rochdale Road Stand and flung it hitting one of his own team’s supporters.:(

Watching man utd maul fulham yesterday i realised why utd are so good. In my opinion they are the only team in the prem that having a 3 goal lead with 15 min to go, still press for a 4th. Everyone else would have just sat back at 2-0 let alone 3 nil.

No, Arsenal certainly wouldn't have. Except in our case recently, we probably wouldn't have a 3 goal lead in the first place and our pressing for another goal would lead us to conceding instead.

I can't. UTD to battle past Everton in a close game to face Arsenal in the final. Hopefully Arsenal wont win this time, especially if we batter the hell out of them like last time.

I believe that was an old rule which has since changed. Now the extra spot will go to whomever finishes 6th. I think.

UTD v Arsenal has the potential to be a classic - to the FA - CUT the effing grass!!!

Even being a Man Utd supporter, that was a masterclass display from Liverpool, though it seems referees are the talking point, especially with the Juve-Chelsea game. What do we think, ball crossed the line or not? I reckon yes, but then I would. The penalty was harsh on Madrid though.

yeah, the ball totally crossed the line - no denying it (chelsea game). as for the pen for Liverpool, yes, that was lucky. But as I say, the rest of the display was not.

Just goes to show how premium the Premiership is for football these days... that's 2 seasons in a row 4 clubs made the quarter finals. I just hope the draw keeps them separate for the quarters so the possibility of 4 in the semis exists.

Liverpool were superb today. I don't think 'we' can go on and win it, as it's really up to Man U to mess it up, rather than anyone else having a great run at the end. It's still Man U's title - they've been more consistent overall (obviously).

You just knew it was going to be one of those games when Vidic of all people cocks it up like that.

TBH, apart from the Chelski game at OT and Fulham away in the cup they have not played that well all season, just got through on a rock solid defence and the odd stroke of luck.

A kick in the pants is what is needed and if this puts them back on track then Liverpool will have done Man Utd a favour.

Well played the Scousers.:tu:

I don't know if there are any Talk Sport listeners here but this morning about 30 mins before kick off they had a man u fan called Kevin. He was ranting and raving for about 10 minutes. He will be eating humble pie all week after his outburst lol. It was very very very funny.

Also. What's peoples take on Stoke City with the long throw approach? Personally i think it kind of ruins the game? Could just be me, though??

Why????

Over the ball tackles, diving, time wasting, shirt pulling, useless officials etc ruin the game. The long throw in is as legitimate as a free kick or corner and it hasn't exactly helped Stoke to any great heights has it.

Jim.

chuzzlemonkey 14-03-2009 20:24

Re: Football : Season 08/09

Agreed with the first part...but personally i'd rather see a team stay up that would rather 'play football'. And Stoke are only a few point out of the R zone, partly due to points accumulated from goals scored from the long throw.

We're under no illusions that we're in the shot for the title, but to do the double on the Mancs home and away makes us their achille's heel. Not many other teams can boast that :D

Loving the back and forth. :D

Until I see the match on MOTD, I'll only say that Liverpool have had a good week with big results, and I hope for the Premiership's sake that they can keep it up against the lower league opposition, and then lose it at the death! I still fancy United to get 5 trophies this season, then beat whichever team comes out on top in the UEFA Cup for the Cup Winners Cup.

I dont care, united could be 10 points clear, it was sweet success, I think even everton gave us a better game.

Was a pleasure to see the look on shreks face, and ferguson looking like an overinflated raspberry, united were worse than average.

This could be a huge dent in uniteds confidence, the doubt could now creep in.

Absolutely made up, I hope we get them in the next round in europe, bring it on.

Just like how you've been worse than average in the league for god knows how many years now, eh?

Every team has a bad game/patch but it's how you come out of them that counts, we've shown time and time again we come out of them well, i reckon it's more likely the scousers will lose their next match rather than us.

Russ, the old adage comes into play, while it is still mathmatically possible there is a chance, if we had lost today I would have conceded it would be virtually over, the lift this win will give the team will be immense, the 80's, was that not when fergie was almost put into a taxi? amazing how things change in football.;)

Want to put a number to that? who scored the most goals in all competitions last season? and it was not united ;)

Well united seem to have just gone into their bad patch, usually bad patches run for a while, how many league games are left? :)

Oh wow well done for scoring the most goals in all competitions, i think the most important numbers last season was 2-0, two trophies to United none to Liverpool, i'll stick to winning the Champions league and Premierhsip rather than scoring the most goals thanks :)

I hope you come back to this thread at the end of the season, rather than just when you've beaten a rival :)

United are only seven clear when they win the game in hand, they might only be 5 clear after the game in hand
That's what I was getting at, 7 clear with the game in hand, we need to loose three for Pool (or Chelsea (COME ON CITY)) to go above us.

Never, all paper talk that, a nice story, I think people in and around OT knew what he was doing in those early days. It wasn't just about winning a trophy, it was a complete overhaul of a club that was off the rails.

Ohhhhh you're so right! United have thrown it all away now after 1 bad game! The premiership title will finally go to Liverpool!!

And I'll grow all my hair back....

I didnt say united have thrown it away, but usually with a bad run 1 bad game can lead to points dropped here points dropped there, Liverpool have done it, why cant united?

I still dont think he should have played shrek today, he looked out of his depth.

Yes, for example how Liverpool dominated the 70s and 80s. Then the 90s arrived and they haven't quite been the same. It's good to remember that Blackburn Rovers have won the Premiership more times than the Scousers.

You sure have a short memory. Which team consistantly turns up the heat in the title run-in? SAF has already proven he owns Rafa when it comes to mind games and this season will be no different.

To come anywhere near our standards united have to first equal 5 european wins, I cannot see that this season, maybe fergie will have to extend his stay another season?

But yes, if united win the league I will come back to say well done, but I dont really think united have moved any mountains this season in the league, they have made ground on points we threw away.

" Game in hand puts us 7 clear "

That is what you said, seems united have already won that game by what youre saying, no it wasnt just paper talk, he was nearly out the door because the fans wanted a trophy.

Equalling the number of league wins will happen this season, if we go on to win the league that is, we're closing in and it will be sweet when it happens so you lot can stop living in the past :)

We have been no where near as good this season as we were last and we're still 4 points clear with a game in hand, i don't know what that says about the other teams in the 'big four'?

Nooooo, think about it. I am giving us that three, and then taking it as three losses for you to catch us. If I take it that we loose that one, we are four clear, we need to loose two at that point, 2+1 be 3. It's the same thing. See what I mean?

You should have seen it a few years back when Arsenal flirted with being a half-decent team that could actually win something, their fans were everywhere.

But these days only a handful survive...

To be fair superbiatch has been one of the very few scousers who post in this thread regularly, it's the other fair weather fans that are coming out which is typical.

Oh yes blackburn rovers, whom shearer signed for instead of united? and who have a special honour bestowed on them by the FA that even united or liverpool do not have.

No Fergie does not own anyone, he might think he does ;)

When united win the league they will equal, then they have to beat that feat, I still say we have gifted united those points but thats football.

Thanks Shadow Demon :tu: I am the first to complain about my own team and also the first to congratulate them, i take the good with the bad.

I also find it intimidating sometimes to post about football as I get the 'what do women know?' comments all the time. I finally felt as if the time had come that I'd become known enough on CF to post in here and most have accepted me quite well ;)

They are the only club permitted by the FA to display the club emblem on the corner flags due to them winning 3 consecutive fa cups.

Ditto! I can have a pleasant, and constructive conversation with any decent minded supporters.

The better team won today, by the way.

We had a great game, but I am not deluded, I know its still a hard job on.

Rafa does infuriate me at times with his ideas, if he had been more attack minded in the games we drew, ok we could have lost some points, but I still feel we would be better off points wise than we are now.
