If you get a scottish person, it seems you get it done :D

not always, I was told it would happen and it has not.

Mine too, I wonder if DNS or proxy servers has slowed down somehow as a result.

The pages load quicker but it takes longer to start loading.

Well, using the number posted about (the 0845 one, not the 0800 one) I got through to a guy called Peter in broadband technical support, who gave me my details, so I've just upgraded online now, and it's flying. /me is very impressed :)

Just to say, as well, that although I've had reason to moan about the CS agents I've dealt with in the past, the person I spoke with tonight was extremely professional.

:tu: and a round of  to Peter

This was hours ago, I can see the right speed in the modem config. I supose another reboot cant hurt though.

Chaos reigns within.
Repent, reflect, reboot
and order will be restored.

Broadband technical support was open when I called 'em - I used the 0845 number posted earlier, cause when I called the 0800 number, I got a message saying they were closed as of 8pm.

Am now downloading a copy of Knoppix at 357 KB/sec... just because I can

Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)

well I called tech support about the error i was getting about the modem not being registered to the account. Anyway, first off the tech guy says the upgrade is only for new customers anyway!

so, then he checks my details and says i have a username and password ive never heard of, but he cant give me the details as i have no security details setup!

anyway, to cut it short, i give him my old account details, which he accepts as proof, then gives me the new details (which i never seen before) and i upgrade just fine :D

If you were told it would be after midnight then it was possibly a porkie. If the agent had done the upgrade for you it would have been virtually instantaneous. You have probably posted about it already but you have rebooted your CM haven't you?

Yes, I have rebooted a few times, and with no result.

Anyway, if I have been fobbed off, Im not happy, are the calls logged at all (so I can trace it back to the person who responded on T/S as I cant remember), because Ill be complaining about this if i was indeed lied to, I mean what is there to gain by T/S lying to me, Im on the verge of being VERY angry, if post midnight I havent been sorted Ill be sending a very very angry (yet perfectly eloquent :P) email to the relevent NTL complaints dept, that guy better hope he didnt lie to me, for if he did he picked the wrong guy.

The person raised a decent question. It's weird that ntl didn't scream it from the rooftops, especially considering all the other ISP's are upgrading speeds too. And with ntl having a national advantage with the 3mb speed, you'd think they'd wanna let everyone know about it, before they have a chance to sign up for their competitors. BT are still in the process of upgrading, yet they've screamed it from the rooftops, and they've explained that current users will have to be patient as each area is upgraded. Ntl should have done the same thing. Even telling their staff would have been nice. :Yikes: :td: :Yikes:

And what if the staff know but have been told to say nothing as it's not supposed to be rolled out yet??

Maybe the plan was you could order it from today but it would be rolled later when everything was in place, then shout and auto upgrade at the same time.

This would explain why you have to ask for it or upgrade on line.

Watchdog is crap. It's a shadow of its former self. A few years ago, that recent expose on ntl would have had far reaching consequences. As it stands, hardly anyone cared. They filled it with stupid shots of Campbell massaging his ego by doing a pointless roleplay, do they think anyone is impressed? They took three scenarios that were worthy of mention, and camped them up to the point that they had very little impact. Dumbing down again I'm afraid.

This doesn't relate specifically to ntl, EVERY case they handle is done in this way nowadays. Bring back Lynn Faulds-Wood.

The speed increases are advertised on the main site perfectly well.

I'm disappointed NTL didn't make the cap 500MB/day. 1GB is way to much.

Silver STB? Is that a Samsung? [I don't have DTV, so don't know what colour any of the STBs are!]

Have you tried the online upgrade page?

If it doesn't work, it's probably worth giving them a ring tomorrow, rather than waiting. Nothing to lose.

Does anyone know for sure if I upgrade from 750k > 2meg online that it wont affect my current pricing plan?

I have always paid £19.99 for the 600k/750k service as I was one of the people who decided to buy the cable modem rather than rent it when that option was available years ago.

Im not sure whether I should sit back and wait for the upgrade or risk it and upgrade online, and hope Ntl don't screw things up and bill me £24.99 a month.

Also what would happen to my pricing plan if I upgraded to the 3meg service? would they charge me full price and send me a new modem or would i get it at a £5 discount ?

Any STB changes have to be done by CS as a signal is sent to the box and the customer has to then re-register using the PID and password

As far as I know...and this is not 100% confirmed, but I am pretty certain....if you stay on tier but just take the new speed you will retain any offer you already have. There would be serious legal issues otherwise, apart from anything else.

If you change tier you will lose whatever offer you currently have, which has always been the case anyway.

They might be watching telly...or reading a book...or doing, *cough*, other things.

To be perfectly honest if that person was me and I saw this I wouldn't bother.

Does anybody know what to do if you get the following when trying to upgrade on their website?

Quote:

The username (XXX) entered is not the registered subscriber associated with this cable modem. Please go back and try again with your cable modem username and password. If you need further help, please contact our customer support (0800 052 2000).
The CM is connected to a router, but I have tried connecting it directly to the machine, but it didnt make a difference. I am using the correct username/password, CS has confirmed this.

I'll have a word with customer services tomorrow and ask that in the interests of fairness they fob people off more consistently.

Seriously, I don't know why you've not had your upgrade through, it needs someone with systems access to check it's been done correctly.

cool, and could you tell them for fairness to be less polite as well? :D only kidding, she was a nice lady that I spoke to, and she said that it would be done asap, but that never happened.

anyway, have a nice night I am off to bed, cause it is freezing here, and I am tired.

According to CS we get this error message because the system is busy, but I dont think they guy knew what he was talking about. I guess the CM MAC address is not configured correctly against our accounts, so when it does a lookup it fails.. Would be nice if somebody working for CS would be able to check this.

SnoopZ

Considering I have gone through 3 tier changes in 30 mins I shudder to think what my bill is going to be like. Hopefully I ended up on the same price as I started so bit of luck, it will ignore the other 2 (or at least overridden them). NTL aren't renouned for their billing skills, even when tiers don't change. Still, think positive thoughts!

If all the tier changes were on the same day then only the first and last will affect the billing.

No, they aren't automatically happening for a while. You can phone up and request it now though, providing it has already been sorted their end.

Just been upgraded to 2Mb in Reading via the http://www.ntlworld.com/data-feeds/editorial/microsites/tierMigration/cablemodem.php link. Thought I'd share my experiences as it didn't initially go 100% smoothly - after logging in to the upgrade system it gave an error saying it couldn't detect MAC address of the modem. I have a Terayon TeraJet. I rebooted the modem - unplugged and went to make a cuppa - then when I restarted and tried to upgrade again it worked fine. Didn't need to reboot the modem for the 2Mb to be activated, it reset itself.

Hope this helps someone!

Cheers,
N.

Has anyone else noticed that clause 2 (General Use) in the latest User Policy no longer has a link to the FAQ about the 1GB limit?
http://www.home.ntl.com/page/userpolicy

This was the FAQ that mentioned exceeding the limit for 3 days or more in any 14 consecutive days.

So it looks like the way the 1GB/day is enforced, may have changed.

Note, on that FAQ, it shows a lionk to how the 3GB cap works on the 1Mb, implying how if its exeeded you have the option of moving tier or paying for the bandwidth, but for the 2+3 meg it has a generic useage guideline of a gig a day, but doesnt state any consequnces of exeeding them, does this mean we're to see a continuation of the soft caps for 2/3Meg?

I forgot my password (duh!) so I called CS this morning (no wait!) and asked for my password and also asked if they could upgrade my speed now. I was advised this wasn't possible and I would have to wait.

Anyway, I had my password now and went from 1.5 to 3mbps via the website in about 30 seconds :)

That's already been established, at least for the forseeable future.

I am in possession of a leaflet with the new speeds on it, for customers, and it clearly states NO CHANGE in big letters for the 2mb and 3mb services.

If I remember I'll bring it home and scan it in since it's already being distributed in public.
