Absolute Justice aired in the US last night. It was a 2hr Smallville TV movie to do with the JSA. Pretty good episode I say. It had a few twists too.

I need someone to read them for me lol :)

The Americans are still waiting for episodes 5 & 6 (30th March I think they restart) as it suddenly stopped after episode 4, but then again they did have major production problems

If it's as good as the re-make of BSG was, I think we may be in for a treat.

Chris 18-03-2010 11:37

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets

It was starting to shape up ok, once you get past the first episode, which was very, very rushed. BSG had the advantage of an entire pilot miniseries to establish the premise upon which the regular show was then based. V threw almost everything at the screen within the first 40 minutes. It really wasn't very satisfying, and would probably have been a bit confusing for someone coming at it completely fresh, with no knowledge of the original series.

Nah, just half. Syfy sometimes splits seasons in half for a longer-than-normal hiatus. They did it with the last season of Eureka, & with BSG's final season.

Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome - Young Adama during the Cylon War

"EXCLUSIVE: Syfy Gives the Greenlight to Young Adama 'Battlestar' Spinoff; Movie, Possible Series to Come"

Quote:

A few months ago, the Syfy network commissioned an online series called 'Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome,' a chronicle of the war experiences of young William Adama.

The network liked Michael Taylor's script for the project so much that Syfy will air 'Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome' on the network as the pilot for a possible young Adama TV series.

Mark Stern, Syfy's executive vice president of original programming and the co-head of original content for Universal Cable Productions, said the network hoped to begin production on the pilot in Vancouver in early 2011.

"When we read Michael's script, it was so clearly a full-blown pilot for a series," Stern said in a Thursday interview. "The scope is fantastic and bigger, I think, than anticipated, so we said, 'Let's do it as a 2-hour backdoor pilot.' ... We're trying to get up and running as soon as possible."

'Blood & Chrome' won't air until the fourth quarter of 2011 at the earliest, Stern said, but an early 2012 debut sounds more likely, especially if the network decides to go forward with a full series. Given the project's origins as an online project, expect lots of Web extras as well.

Fans missing the Battlestar Galactica itself -- the valiant old ship that housed Adama, Starbuck, Apollo and the rest -- will get to see it once again, or a version of it, in the new show. High-resolution digital scans were made of all the 'Battlestar Galactica' sets before they were torn down, and those scans will be used in the new project, which, like Syfy's 'Sanctuary,' will employ cutting-edge computer effects to supply virtual sets.

"It's an opportunity to 'see them before they were famous,'" Stern said of 'Blood & Chrome,' which takes place roughly 20 years after the events of 'Caprica' and about 40 years before the events of 'BSG.' "Here's the Battlestar Galactica as a brand-new, shiny ship -- well, not shiny, but as a new ship that had just been commissioned. What was that like?"

(snip)

Ronald D. Moore, 'BSG's' executive producer, was "in the room" when the 'Blood & Chrome' story was conceived; Stern called him the "godfather" of the project. However at this time, Moore, who has a deal with Sony and is developing projects like 'The Wild, Wild West' there, has no official role on 'Blood & Chrome.'

Given that a full-blown series, if one is ordered, might not go into production for a year, Stern said the hope is that Moore might be able to come on board if 'Blood & Chrome' goes forward beyond the pilot. David Eick and Taylor are executive producers and Bradley Thompson and David Weddle are producers on 'Blood & Chrome'; all are veterans of 'BSG.'

(snip)

Asked if 'BSG' composer Bear McCreary would do the music for 'Blood & Chrome,' Stern said no deal had been struck be he "couldn't imagine" the project without a McCreary score.

(snip)

Very interesting. Be great to see more Young Adama during the Cylon War, a la Razor.

I'd say with one family member being a scientist, there's a similarity to the Fantastic 4.

Interestingly, the character of 'Jim' seems to have the exact same powers as Michael Chiklis' Ben/Thing character in the recent Fantastic 4 films, minus the CGI disfigurement. :D

Apparently Firefly hasn't been mentioned since 2008, so I think I will!

Are there any other Browncoats here on this board, or am I, like Mal Reynolds, the Last Man Standing?

I only discovered it this year, after hearing about it at a number of conventions I went to. Finally I saw the DVD set on offer in HMV, and I thought, "Well, I haven't heard anything negative about it - they can't all be wrong..."

They weren't. It's easily one of the best TV shows of any description I've ever seen, and I'm rueing the fact that I discovered it so late. I'm in the midst of writing fanfic, in fact, to be posted in the Blue Sun Room on fireflyfans.net. There's nothing about the show I don't like, nothing at all. It doesn't hurt that Jewel Staite and Morena Baccarin are cute and gorgeous respectively...:p:

You gotta love a folk hero like Jayne Cobb, though!

Favourite line of all time is Kaylee's complaint to Mal in Serenity:

"But he coulda made 'em family! 'Steada keepin' Simon from seein' I was there, when I carried such a torch, an' we coulda...goin' on a year now I ain't had nothin' twixt my nethers weren't run on batteries!"

Mal: "Oh, God! I can't know that!"

Jayne (typically): "I could stand to hear a little more..."

Here's hoping Fox/Universal/whoever see sense at some point and bring it back. After all, it happened before...

Can't stop the signal!

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets

I love Firefly. I have the series and Serenity on DVD, and keep meaning to get the Blu-rays.

Great cast, and always good seeing them star or guest-star in other things (Fillion in Castle, Baldwin in Chuck, Staite in Atlantis, Baccarin in SG-1 & V, Tudyk in Dollhouse, etc.). Pity about the "Curse of Summer Glau" though of course! ;)

There was even an episode of Castle where the main character Richard Castle (played by Fillion) dressed as Mal for a Halloween party. Excellent little in-joke / reference.

Morena Baccarin is utterly stunning, and my no.1 "Sci-Fi / Cult TV babe".

Now I'm near the end of my "complete Stargate marathon", I'll probably watch Firefly again.

Castle is full of little Firefly references, plus Chuck has had a fair few too

I quite like Abed and Troys suicide pact from Community though :D

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but the BBC have ordered 14 episodes of Doctor Who for [New] Series 7 - to be split between 2012, and the shows 50th anniversary in 2013. Plus there is the usual Christmas Special (2011).

There has been acres of discussion over this elsewhere on the interwebs, as it is still not entirely clear exactly what is meant by splitting series 7 in two over 2012 and 2013.

On a certain reading of the information, it appears that the BBC has effectively cut its output of Doctor Who in half for the next 2 years. Whether that is in fact true would depend o exactly when in 2012 and 2013 the episodes of season 7 are screened, and when season 8 eventually gets screened.

The confusion seems to have had something to do with severe ineptitude at senior production level and other senior production staff and BBC management all trying to cover it up but spinning the story in several different directions.

I am surprised to learn the original movie of Blade Runner flopped at the box office.

I believe that shows the potential that a full on movie could have.

Nah, I think 5 mins is all you would get from that.

It could be used integrally as part of a bigger film.
