F1 2022 Season Thread

The 2022 season is nearly upon us with changes to the FIA structure.

Michael Masi as expected has been sacked as Race Director and will be offered another roll in the FIA, maybe they will make him a car park attendant! :D

Let's hope the FIA strip Max and return the title to Lewis.

I like many will not be watching F1 until this happens.

Even true Dutch F1 fans have said Leiws was robbed.

The Russian Formula 1 Grand Prix has been cancelled as a result of the invasion of Ukraine.

An F1 statement said it had been agreed at a meeting of stakeholders "that it is impossible to hold the Russian Grand Prix in the current circumstances".

I doubt that Mazepin will actually race, the FIA is under pressure to ban him

The FIA is affiliated to the IOC, which did a U-turn yesterday.

Plus, we have banned all Russian sports persons from the UK, so he won't be here.

He might even pull out himself?

There are conflicting stories, I read he might have to sign a document denouncing Putin's actions.

Also, even if he does stay, the rules would allow him to race at Silverstone despite the fact we have banned all Russians.

Interesting design of the Mercedes in todays Bahrain testing.

Basically NO side pods, whether it gets banned we will have to see, but as expected the first team to moan is RB.

I've seen it, Williams isn't a million miles off the Merc design, it has side pods just very much reduced, looks like fighter jet intakes.

I like it

The first race of the 2022 seasons qualifying starts at 3pm it doesn't look good for Mercedes based on their practice times, I hope they can improve quickly as Lewis says they won't be competing for race wins this weekend.

I only get 2 pop ups at the beginning then nothing during the steam and leave my ad blocker on. Not all the streams require you to turn it off.

F1 confirmed on Wednesday that from 2023 they will be racing in Las Vegas, with the famous Strip forming a unique backdrop for a street race that will see cars speed past the sights at around 212mph.

In a break from Sunday's race day tradition, the Grand Prix is set to take place on a Saturday night in November, at 10pm local time.

You really do have some have strange thoughts when it comes to F1! First off from years ago it's your hatred for Alonso then Ferrari and now its Red Bull.

Don't get me wrong most people know the last race result of 2021 was a balls up by the FIA is this really going to stop you watching it? You can say the same things about any sport.

I mean i can't stand Christian Horner after the way he behaved at Silverstone last year and as for Helmut Marko that guys a bloody moron in my opinion the way he speaks out, but that isn't going to stop me watching F1 or listening to it even if the team i currently follow or the drivers are not doing well.

Listening to F1 rather than watching it is the same thing you're still following it even if you say you're not.

Had you been watching instead of just listeniing then you would know how he got the fastest lap, It was a yellow flag at just one corner not the whole circuit.

Due to the changing conditions of the circuit he had done what was required before entering that corner (the only one yellow flagged) and lifting and the green flag after legitimately gave him the fastest lap and would have applied to any other driver in the same situation.

As has been said, the shitshow last year has now changed everything, we all know it wasn't a right decision but get over it. Lewis has.

Other than what happened last year on the last race I don't think you have a clue on what the F1 rules actually say or do in giving a level playing field.

Sao Paulo Grand Prix: George Russell beats Lewis Hamilton to first full Formula 1 win

George Russell took a maiden grand prix victory - and a first for Mercedes in 2022 - as Max Verstappen was penalised for a collision with Lewis Hamilton in Sao Paulo.

Russell was in control of the race throughout after Verstappen and Hamilton came together as they disputed second place in the early stages at a safety car restart.

Hamilton dropped to ninth place after the collision with his 2021 title rival but came back to secure a Mercedes one-two and seal the team's recovery after a difficult season that the eight-time champions started with an uncompetitive car.

Russell's accomplished drive included him surviving a late safety car that bunched up the field and put Hamilton right behind him heading into the final 10 laps.

The Mercedes drivers were told that they were allowed to race but Russell held the lead at the restart and kept Hamilton at bay until the end.

Can’t help but think longer term he’s shot himself in the foot. Why would Perez compromise his race next year to hold up any of Max’s competitors? Sure, he can give it the couple of difficult corners, but beyond that if he’s on a different strategy or racing someone else for position in the pit window I’d imagine his own race will come first.
