View Full Version : is this the best dvd writer so far ?
hi to all, was reading through a pc mag yesterday and came across this (http://www.lge.co.uk/mod_perl/go.pl/site/products.htm?product_uid=2731&category_uid=) to many specs to write about here but if your in the market for an internal writer look no further, very well priced as well at only £99.00 :D
Have been looking at getting one for a while but think I will be buying this :) ok you lose a bit on the cd write speed but hey  its a dvd writer after all
Looks like a nice writer but it wouldn't be my first choice.
I'd go for a liteon 401s or 411s from ebay for about £60 then I'd 'upgrade' it to an 811s by using the 'zebramod' (http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/forums.asp?s=2&c=9&t=3591&p=5360) -
The next zebramod is rumoured to allow 8X DVD-R :D
Of course you might as well burn your warranty.

Far better sticking to the pioneer range. The 106 will give you a 4x burner (multi format) and the 107 will give you a 8x burner.
I have been using pioneer burners since the 103 & have never had a problem with them.

{HA 4063} NEC ND2500a DVD writer supporting 8x DVD+R and 8x DVD-R (http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acatalog/Hardware_Section__.html)
The ND-2500 writes to DVDR at 8x speed (+R as well as -R) & writes DVDRW rewritables at 4x speed (+RW as well as -RW). In addition to DVD, the unit also records to CD media: CD-R at 32x & ultra-speed CD-RW at 16x speed. The unit's reading speed is impressive as well: 12x for DVD-ROM and 40x for CD-ROM in combination with access time of 140 ms for DVDs and 120 ms for CDs. An hour of DVD video can be recorded in less than 10 mins. only £72.99 inc vat.
NEC ND2500a has the guts of the Pioneer 107 its just in a different case with a different name.

I gave the wrong page. If you go here (http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/forums.asp?s=2&c=9&t=3591&p=5227) and find the link to www.speedlabs.org then click on it you'll end up at a site where you can register to get the mod (it's in the forum)
You have to visit speedlabs.org from atomicmpc.com cos it checks the referring site apparently.
I've been raving about the LGs for some time. I have a GSA-4040B (the predecessor to the 4081) and it's great. Scan sometimes have them on their Today page.
