I am about to move house.

I am still in the 12 month chuffin contact

New house has NTL cable already there.

Can I just plug the CM into the new place and surf away? (Being that my MAC address would still be the same? Or are MACs tied the addresses in a TECNICAL way?

Great if it did.... Please tell mem your views fellow NTL'ers

Is that house using NTL, or is the cable just left there from a previous subscriber?

If the latter then it may well not be connected.

It would more than likely pick up a temp IP, and you would be unable to re-register it.

However if its in the same area and runs under the same DHCP...who knows...

you need to go here: http://www.ntlhome.com/moving_house/index.html and give them a call.

if the new place is already cabled you can take your existing cable modem with you.. but you will need an engineer to visit.. and the homemove team to transfer your account

Will they care that I have not used my 12 months, or does that not matter : Ie its your custom they want for 12 month, NOT "your custom at a certain address) (Being in mind I am about 8 months in :-( )

Nope, they care about you being with them for 12 months in total.

You will not sign a new contract at the new house, just continue with your old one. Hence it is only the total time that you have had services from them that is important.

Tom

all depends on the catv being connected in the cab1 your welcome to try it but it's not reccomended as the signal levels may be way out and can cause problems for you an other in the area.

This is how i understand it.

If the mac address is registered it will work just about anywhere. It should pick up a good ip and service level because it is registered. But, the service may be slow due to improper configuration of the service ntl side. Also diagnostics ntl side wouldnt work because tools would query the wrong cmts.

Im not sure is the cm tries to use the dhcp, cache, dns it was originally registered on or if its that that causes the speed drops.

But if you intend to change your mailing address with ntl they will probably change the service addresses too. If this is the case then the modem will lose connection on the date of move.

No. If the area has a different DHCP, the DHCP for the modem will not have no MAC in its memory and therefore will issue a temp IP.

What a pity you're not going to a non ntl cabled area, then you could cancel the ntl contract and be freeee!

Free to take up bulldog or any ADSL product. More on changing providers in the section - Alternatives to ntl.
