Ok, so here's the thing....

Having discovered that the NEC e606 'phone has a fault where it keeps dropping calls ( ), '3' have agreed to upgrade my phone for free (Don't tell Russ!!), but I can't decide on whether to go for the Motorola A835 or the A920 that they have offered me, & would welcome any thoughts/opinions from anyone here.

According to one review the A920 is possibly the most advanced phone you'll come across this year

I don't have a problem with the line 'quality' as such, I can always hear people fine (& vice versa), it's just that when I go out of a 3G area & into a 2G one (or vice versa) the NEC e606 just drops the call & I have to redial (as you know!) :afire:

The NEC phone does not have the ability to hold calls while it switches networks, but all the others do.

Still can't make my mid up whether to go for A835 or A920 though! :dunce:

A920 sounds like a better model than the A835 just cos the number is higher ;)

And from looking at them the A920 (right) looks much better.

The A920 has some form of PDA function (although the A835 does to-they actually refer to it 'PIM'-personal information manager which does contacts/to do list etc)

So I think the A835 it is as it has better battery life etc. :)

But the A835 (http://www.remote.org/frederik/roadhog/scotland/roadhog.cgi?show=5529/s/1&mode=2b8&delay=2) runs up the west coast of Scotland and is nowhere near the A920.

Or perhaps I got something wrong there...

(Interesting link though!)

The A920 is being replaced by the A925. The A920 can have its firmware upgraded to be a A925.

The A925 has bluetooth enabled the A920 doesn't.

*Goes off to check dimensions of both phones as A920 looks huge*

[Edit]-A920=146 x 60 x 22mm, & A835=137 x 55 x 26mm.

Still no closer to a decision. :dozey:

The phones are huge. But you get used to it. The leather case you get with it also makes it impossible to hear ringing. Vibration alert wears the battery out quicker tho.

Ok, I've decided to go for the A835 as it has better battery life & (more than!) enough functions that I need. :p

It will be a brand new/boxed unit, so that can't be a bad thing I suppose. :)

All's well that ends well. ;)

Thanks for all your input. :)

I have an A920 and it's a good phone. Sizewise it's large, but quite slimline so it's not as if it's a housebrick. The latest versions of the phone have bluetooth and it takes some P800 apps... if you go along to somewhere like the forums on uk-net.org you'll find a lot of ppl with each phone to discuss the pros and cons. Plus you have the hours of entertainment value to be derived from giving your phone to friends and colleagues and watching them try to figure out how to actually work the phone part of it :D

The PDA part of the phone is what I actually bought it for - and it works well enough for me. I had the "pleasure" of having a NEC 606 as a loan phone recently - the guy behind the counter at the store actually sniggered as he gave me it and it is one AWFUL phone. Watching the videos and stuff on it was excruciating and if anyone else made the "Beam me up Scotty jokes" I was going to murder them.

Don't believe that the motorolas don't drop calls as you move from 2g to 3g because they do it the same as all the 3 handsets - I tend to switch the network manually onto O2 before I make a call and leave it there.

The funny thing is, I'd had 4 e606s in total and although 3 were faulty, one of them (the loan phone) worked fine, and the A835 STILL performs better, it seems to pick up signals where the NEC couldn't.

All in all the A835 is a HUGE step up from the e606.
