Just read an interesting article in the Register about Homeplug.

We have heard about electricity companies offering broadband internet access via your powerline but Homeplug takes this a stage further and uses the electricity circuits within your home to connect devices to each other. Is this the way forward and could powerline technology eventually kill off cable companies and telephony companies?

From what I understand, it can be a way forward, but I don't think they'll be killing off ISPs just yet - as far as I recall there are a number of products taht will go on your house wiring - X10 stuff for remote control lights etc, telephone extension plugs and now networking - but if I recall it won't work over long distances and is subject to interference - so it'll work in a house, but not down the road.....
