View Full Version : Control Philips DVDR70 from NTL STB?

Hi All,

I've recently bought a Philips DVDR70 DVD Recorder and so far I'm very happy with it.

I've read in the manual for the DVDR70 that it has something called 'Automatic Satellite Recording' I quote: "Recordings made on your DVD recorder can be controlled from an external satellite receiver."

Does this mean I can use the STB (Pace DITV1000) to mark programmes in the EPG for recording? The manual for either box isn't very explanatory.

Thanks!
Mike

Controlling DiTV1000s remotely is problematic. There is a bit of explaination here:

I would suggest that your best bet would be to get RedEye (http://www.redremote.co.uk/) remote translator and work from there.

Thanks again Altis,

From the wording of the explanation of the 'Automatic Satellite Recording' it tended to suggest that some STB's can send control signals over SCART to the DVD Recorder to trigger it to record.

If this control signal could be fired on an auto tune event from the STB it would mean I could mark the programmes I wish to record on the EPG and allow that to send a signal to start the recorder.

If this is a possibility it would be a brilliant addition to an already brilliant recorder.

Thanks!
Mike

i dont think that it is that wants to be done , i have just had a look at the philips manual and apparently some stb's can output a signal via scart so the dvd-r will automatically record , or summat like that , anyway i am probably talking s*it , so just ignore me and i will get me coat :walk:

As far as I know, the only DVDR that can control an extrenal receiver is the DVDR80, using its GUIDE Plus+ system. See www.redremote.co.uk/dvdr80.html for info on setting this up with NTL/TW.

I think what the OP refers to is the ability of some STBs to initiate a timed recording via SCART - the NTL software does not have this capability, although it could be added in the future (don't hold your breath though!)

No you're not Paul - that's exactly what I mean. The Pace box has an option for 'Scart AV Control' which I turned on, but so far to no avail.

Bear in mind that the 2 scarts on the Pace work differently - the TV one toggles the source select line (pin 8) when the STB goes in & out of standby - AFAIK the VCR one does nothing.
I'm not sure how the auto-record thing on SCART works - I suspect it may be something a little more advanced than simply turning pin 8 on, as this might cause unexpected over-writes!
