I'm off to the lake district, and need an A4 size print of the directions. I've tried a few online maps (google, multimap etc) but they only give a small map, with the directions, and it's not that easy to follow. Does anyone know how I can get an A4 sized print, of where I'm going ?

All sorts of printing & mapping options here (http://maps.msn.co.uk/(qs5dkcefr00dpo45n21btx45)/directions.aspx?&StartName=Manchester%2c+England%2c+United+Kingdom&StartLocation=53.47960%2c-2.24881&EndName=Flookburgh%2c+Cumbria%2c+England%2c+United +Kingdom&EndLocation=54.17448%2c-2.97067&DataSetLangID=EUR&RouteType=Quickest&RouteUnit=Miles)....

Thanks for the link, but when you select to print, again it shrinks the map. :erm:

I think that's common with most online mapping systems. Best option would be to build up a series of pages from something like streetmap, or multimap once youve got your route. TBH you don't need big maps of the motorways, it's the more local areas as the road gets windy that you want to be a larger scale.

It looks like that's my only option, unless I take a screen shot somehow, and get an A4 print that way lol. Cheers !

Or get your A4 Map print out and enlarge it on a photocopier or save it in a paint program and change it to the size you want.

I used this site and also the AA site (http://www.theaa.com/travelwatch/planner_main.jsp)

http://www.transportdirect.info/TransportDirect/en/JourneyPlanning/JPLandingPage.aspx?oo=en&on=Manchester+(City+Centre)%2c+Manchester%2c+Great er+Manchester&o=384244%2c398379&id=ClientLinks&do=en&dn=Flookburgh%2c+Cumbria&d=336640%2c475810&da=d&m=m&p=1&c=True

With a proper road atlas to compliment them. Had no problems at all.

Thanks for the suggestions, I have looked, and the map doesn't seem that complicated. A detailed full A4 pic would have been nice, but we can manage with a small, rough map, I have the directions from google and multimap anyway lol

It takes about 2 hours, from manchester to here (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=flookburgh&ie=UTF8&ll=53.991625,-2.905884&spn=2.293046,6.9104&om=1) I really hope the map is up to date lol.

Would Google Earth help? It has OK mapping facilities and is quite good for directions. Tends to favour motorways though.

Haven't been that way for years - from what I remember it can be a bit of a bugger once you get on the local roads - we used to go Grange-over-sands every year from Chester - used take a couple of hours.

That's a clever bit of kit. He's taken a Google Map and overlayed info from BBC Backstage for a visual list of roadworks...clever stuff.

Another one with realtime delays and future duration planning is http://www.highways.gov.uk/traffic/traffic.aspx which also shows you all the warnings on those overhead motorway signs. Clever stuff.
