war & peace has over 1000 characters in it

they all have russian names that are difficult to get your head round

Tolstoy apperently 'turned into a right git'
with his family and stuff later in life

Well I don't know about the latter but he did write the most inpenetrable book of all time(apart from the 3D software manual I'm currently trying to fathom)which possibly may turn a chap cranky. He must have got fed up trying to explain who everyone was. :)

he must have used some kind of 'chart' on his wall

I don't think I have even met 1000 people in my entire life

let alone concocting characters for them and stuff

poor chap had probably tipped his mind gagga

Yes, but do any of the Conan stories get up to 100 pages, never mind 6 volumes?
