Samaira Nazir was just 25 when she was brutally murdered, stabbed 18 times by her killers and dragged by her hair her family watched in horror as her throat was also slit, in fact it was members of her family who did this to her..

brother Azhar, 30 and 17-year-old cousin Imran Mohammed were involved and were executioners of this victim, the girls father was also aparty and charged like the first two, except he fled to pakistan and is in hiding.

Salman Mohammed is an asylum seeker who came to the uk in the year 2000, he was introduced to the murdered women by her brother Azhar, in march of 2005 she told her family that she was in love with Salman and a relationship formed, and rebuffed the arranged suitor for her marriage.

Samaira's brother then threatned Salman in april using a knife Azhar said the would never marry two days later she was dead.

"This was a brutal and most appalling murder of a young girl who was killed in the name of so-called honour simply because she fell in love with someone her family did not approve of," Detective Inspector John Reid said.

"In their view he was not suitable because he did not come from an affluent family.

"There is nothing at all honourable about her brutal death."

actually they were both given life sentences.

It is just that one is eligible for release after 20 years, and one after 10.

I wish that the media would start accurate reporting rather than just trying to gain support for the "we hate the crime and punishment system" campaign. They are eligible for release yes, but that definately doesn't mean that they will get it by any means.

its likely they will, subject to good behaviour.

they WILL be out, becuase even though they murdered someone, aslong as they behave themselves, dont cause a nuisance and fake some remorse for the killing then they are out..... to live freely.

The reality that the public knows and the media have picked up on is that the minimum jail term, is the most important thing. That someone has a "life sentence" has become irrelevant.

But that is not the real issue here, and it's interesting that Kronas, with his background, is the one to pick up on this crime. It is simply this, is the culture of arranged marriage something that those exposed to western society and culture can accept?
