Moving House & Requesting A Specific Phone Number

I am due to move house in aout 6 weeks & was wondering if it is possible to specify my new phone number.

Before anyone feels the need to ask, the number I want is unused!!!

Just called ntl, I can't transfer the old number!

When i had a landline installed, i was given a list of a few numbers to choose from, i'm not sure if the situation is the same in different areas though... That was in Swansea

when a customer disconnects their phone line, the number goes into a holding pool for i think its 6 months/180 days so i guess it depends on who had the number you want last and when they disconnected.
