I just received two emails, both entitled with a string of random letters. The text of the message said something along the lines of "Your PayPal account is about to expire. In order to renew it you need to run the attachment to this message"

Well, I ain't dumb. Neither do I have a PayPal account,

Deleted them immediately.

exactly the right thing to do - paypal have published this warning (http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/email-security-outside) on their website..

best advice (sorry if I am preaching to the choir here) NEVER EVER send personal details via Email - they have tried this scam as Lloyds TSB and as Halifax, so who will be next ? :upyours:

edit - just saw this thread : http://www.nthellworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=4286 which discussed the same thing...

Went on to the NatWest online banking site last night and they have a warning on the front page that something similar is happening with them.

Yep, Lloyds TSB online banking site have also had a similar warning posted for about a fortnight. Looks like everyone is being targeted.
