I am on 10Mbps, but only getting around 4Mbps. This has been going on for a while, restarted cable modem doesn't make a difference. Is anyone else round the Leicester area having this problem?

To be honest if your getting 4 meg thats not bad considering some of the speeds around here.
And before someone else says it, its "upto" 10meg, whereas in most cases its "never likely to see it". ;)

Last night it was under 3Meg, I thought it mite hav just been the router, so i plugged the pc straight into the modem, but its only made abit of difference.

Here is a speed test i have just done

Fri, 17 Mar 2006 09:56:52 UTC

1st 512K took 1297 ms = 394.8 KB/sec, approx 3253 Kbps, 3.18 Mbps
2nd 512K took 1015 ms = 504.4 KB/sec, approx 4156 Kbps, 4.06 Mbps
3rd 512K took 922 ms = 555.3 KB/sec, approx 4576 Kbps, 4.47 Mbps
4th 512K took 1110 ms = 461.3 KB/sec, approx 3801 Kbps, 3.71 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 3947 Kbps, 3.86 Mbps

I'm just over the road (well kind of) in Nuneaton and having the same problem. Being told that it's my router, when I have tested both native and through the router.

This needs to be sorted out - it's impossible to use my connection for anything....games die, videos cut out or don't load at all, music streams simply disconnect mid song.

Come on NTL - get it sorted for crying out loud. If there are any kind CF team members about who wish to help some of us guys, by all means do so :)

I dont think the CF guys [good as they are] can do much about it, reading between the lines its not a quick fix.
Thats when or if it gets fixed. :(

Rone - this is what I'm asking. If somebody says "NTL's planned maintenance is causing this for definite - I have checked" then fine. If people just say "You should be happy you get 5mb, and it's possibly to do with the maintenance" then not fine. I'd like to know why I have a **** poor connection and faults have as much clue of what to do as a chimp with toilet paper.

Iv'e just been reading a letter posted called the Tech Support Tale in the Micro Mart mag 9-15 March Your Letters section of the mag. Which say's NTL is selling their broadband 10MB service to coustomers with the up to 10MB stated in the advert to cover the fact that the Pace 1000 set-top box will not handle speeds in excess of 1MB and the Samsung Box between 5 and 8MB max (the words in blue are copied exactly as written in the mag). This may explain why speeds are so slow since you almost never get the full connection speed advertised

I had a new blue 250 modem after the Christmas slow speed fiasco, of course it did nothing to help, we are now back to the same position, they even wanted to come out and change this one.
Got a nice collection of old modems going though. :(
