I have checked the cable modem page and it shows:

Cable Modem Operation Configuration
Network Access : Allowed
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 10240000
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 512000
Maximum Upstream Channel Burst : 1600
Maximum Number of CPEs : 1
Modem Capability : Concatenation Enabled, Fragametation Enabled, PHS Disabled

Now I maybe wrong, but doesn't this mean the upstream is only 512Kbit rather than 1Mbit? And if so wouldn't this mean there is no way I can get a full 10Meg? Currently I'm only getting about 5Mbit. .i.e

Tue, 14 Mar 2006 14:47:08 GMT

1st 512K took 743 ms = 689.1 KB/sec, approx 5678 Kbps, 5.54 Mbps
2nd 512K took 803 ms = 637.6 KB/sec, approx 5254 Kbps, 5.13 Mbps
3rd 512K took 812 ms = 630.5 KB/sec, approx 5195 Kbps, 5.07 Mbps
4th 512K took 716 ms = 715.1 KB/sec, approx 5892 Kbps, 5.75 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 5505 Kbps, 5.37 Mbps

Or have I got this all wrong :)

Thanks in advance.

you only get 512k upload on 10MB. download speed seems to vary on 10MB.

Yep, what he said ;) And it's ' up to 10 meg' :( you'll find it does flucuate a lot depending on the usage and times of day.

hi

the figures from the config page are correct, the upstream is supposed to be 512Kb/s.

There are several reasons why you might not get the full 'up to' 10Mb/s downstream, but, put simply the NTL 'home 250' modem (the blue one) is the only one that seems to perform reliably at this speed. Other factors include whether you use ethernet or USB to connect & if you use a router

Oh ok,
Not sure why I thought it was 1Mbit upstream :erm:..

And I had seen here that the download speed could "vary", but I just wanted to check that *my* modem rates were correct.

BTW I do have a 250 modem and use ethernet and my modem WAN port is a full 100meg :)

Thanks.

"Vary" is indeed the watchword, as well as "upto". ;)

Check that your rwin is in the correct range with that test.
