I have ntl broadband at home, which i had installed years ago via a set top box. I remember the software really messed up my PC and in the end i installed it manually.

Now my dad has had broadband installed (modem) and im going round to connect him up today. I cant remember what exactly to do "manually". I really dont want to use the software.
Is there a guide on here? i did search but couldnt weed one out.

You definately do not need the CD. Plug everything together while the PC and modem are switched off, power up the modem, wait for lights to settle, power up the PC, wait for things to load and settle.

Like Paul said they are dead easy to set up now, I got a new 250 modem the other week, I just plugged it in and away we went.

One thing to mention though is that you may need the CD if you are connecting via USB, go with Ethernet and a lot of problems are bypassed immediately and it is nearly plug and play at that point.

All done, thanks all.

There was a period there where i couldnt connect and couldnt work out why, but i think it was due to NTL doing maintenance yesterday.
