Afternoon fella's, just found this forum.

Wondering if you could help before i ring NTL up.

Story is;i ordered my 10 meg upgrade nearly 6 weeks ago......(origionally on 2)

On Tuesday it finally arived, nic man ,,he even removed his boots on the way in.

Now he installed the cable modem i rang up tech support as it wouldnt register they waved a magic wond and its working now....................But when i do the speed test (tried several sites) and they all give similar reults.
See below please....

Sun, 5 Mar 2006 16:52:13 UTC

1st 512K took 2143 ms = 238.9 KB/sec, approx 1969 Kbps, 1.92 Mbps
2nd 512K took 2724 ms = 188 KB/sec, approx 1549 Kbps, 1.51 Mbps
3rd 512K took 2253 ms = 227.3 KB/sec, approx 1873 Kbps, 1.83 Mbps
4th 512K took 2313 ms = 221.4 KB/sec, approx 1824 Kbps, 1.78 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 1804 Kbps, 1.76 Mbps

Not what i expected as this was as near to what i was getting with 2 meg.

Any idea's before i ring up.

Is this the norm, if so i'll cancel it and return to my 2 meg.

Thanks guy's

Ps after installing Broadband medic the modem that was supplied isnt part of the selection of modems that i was presented with on installation.

Many thanks
Gary

as a quick check to make sure you are on 10MB, type in the following in a web browser:
192.168.100.1

and use root for the username and password. Click on the operation configuration button and see what the downstream rate is showing as. Think it should be something like 10240000 bps

You don't need BB medic installed, sounds like your service level hasn't been altered or you are having to wait for the change to be pushed through to the modem. Either way a phone call can only help.
Welcome to the forum by the way.

Hmm..for some reason the last post auto links to my modem login.. weird forum bug?
What I mean is my login screen pops up as soon as I click the link TO this thread from the main page. Not when I click his links.

Nevermind..he's copied the whole html code from the cable modem front page.Everything suddenly makes sense. Just ignore me lol.

Downstream Data Rate : 10240000 Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 512000Maximum

this means you're on the 'upto' 10meg service.

Yup.. same here... and for replying also... took 6 presses of 'cancel' for it to get off the screen... (and not including the same half dozen presses of 'cancel' just to view the original post)
