I thought I would check with you guys prior to an engineer coming on Tuesday just to make sure he/she fits the right thing and doesn't fob me off with old kit (not that they have before)....

At the moment we have an Samsung 2100C STB on the 2 meg connection along with TV package and telephone. We wanted to go to 10 meg, so customer service are sending the engineer to install a separate stand alone cable modem.

Which modem should they be installing as part of this installation? Also is there anything else I need to watch out for?

Is it possible to have another line still using the STB so I can dedicate it to work as I am based from home and want to separate the bill etc.

Hi Frosty, welcome to the forum! :)
I recently did the same as you and had the ntlhome:120 modem fitted. Apparently it's the only one they do now......

They should test the cabling out that goes to your pc and if it is ok you will get a shiny new (blue) ntl:250 modem.

Not to sure but if you can but you will be paying twice, why not try a router and still bill your BB to work? Two connections and work pays half your bill.

Anyhoo..........the 120 does a fine job of handling 10meg :)

(but the 250 would seem to be the next one up the line though!)

I have just found this on another thread. Is this correct as I don't want to send the engineer away!!

Just to let everyone know that the NTL engineer that i had arranged arrived on time this morning :) and listened to what i had to say about what i was experiencing and what i had read about the problem on this forum. He replied saying that the 100 and 120 modems were not capable of 10mb and have been having problems and replaced the modem with a brand new shiney 250 modem, also wiring it up via ethernet and i am now recieving a full 10mb connection, no more between 5 and 7 like what i was recieving before the problem ocurred. So this confirms that there is definitly a problem with the 100 and 120 modems and im once again a happy NTL customer lol.

Id just have a 10Mb connection & your tele.Just use your router, much cheaper!,You would be paying two bills sorry. But b4 you have 10Mb id check what your coverage is like, you may find that 2mb is better. http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=37935
