Well the first important question, is why do you want to change your ip address?

Somebody used my PC and I cannot access a couple of forums I should be able to.

ahhh... you've been ip banned from some forums, and you want to change your ip so you can get back on them again. You'll probably get noticed and banned again quite quickly but anyway....

are you using usb or ethernet at the moment?

Using Ethernet.......

Then you need to change the mac of the Network Card... instructions from the article:

Changing a NIC's mac address

Windows
Go into device manager and then the properties of the network card. In the "advanced" section there is an option to change the network address/ physical address/ mac address. Check the current mac address using ipconfig /all from a command prompt and then increase the mac address by one digit. Reboot everything and you should have a new ip.

Not sure how to find the network card.......

1. I see nothing in this format.
2. Am I looking in the right place when I am in Network Adapters / Intel Network Connection? Thanks.

no you need to be in a command prompt and type

ipconfig /all

take a note of the mac, then head into the device manager

There is no mac.

Physical address
IP Address
Subnet mask
Default gateway
DHCP
DNS x 2

I can't find or change my MAC address that way either. I always change my IP by using ipconfig and releasing the IP then unplugging the modem and leaving it off atleast 18hrs. This method has worked for me everytime i've tried it.

Okay, I have that. Format is: 00-00-00-00-T0-00

ok good. now go back up this thread and head to device manager to change the address. With some NICs it is not possible, but you should be able to do it.

You could allways use a proxy, its easy to do and works.
Some hosts seem to be banning ntl ip's for fun, must be the recent changes or something

Changed field called 'Locally Administered Address' by increasing the number by 1 after clicking the Value radio button. Saved, re-booted, still not working.

How do I do it by proxy?

Okay, worked out how to use a proxy, done that, but still cannot get to the websites I am trying to access. (IP ban still in force). Thoughts?

The site could be detecting the IP of the proxy rather than your own IP and banning all users of NTL proxies. Have you contacted the forum's admin team about the issue and what have they said?
