seems aol are taking a stance on pop-ups. What's your views on this?.......should ntl do the same?

It's a tricky one. The economics of the internet are such that only very few things can actually earn a subscription - sport and porn being the big two, I believe - so providers of 'free' web services have to get their revenue from somewhere. I find banner ads only a minor inconvenience, but I think pop-ups are deeply irritating. Worst of all are ads that crawl across the middle of the page you're trying to read and won't go away. These are pretty much guaranteed to make me go elsewhere.

I have the pop-up blocker set on my browser and that works fine for me, but I wonder if wholesale blocking of pop-ups by big ISPs like AOL might have a long-term impact on the viability of the 'free' web services we all enjoy.

One of the main reasons I bought Norton INTERNET security, I just can't stand them :(

ummmm all they are doing (from reading the link) is preventing Windows Messaging Popups from appearing on their customers PCs, which is exactly the same as ntl blocking the netbios ports, just worded differently.

EDIT oh and implemented differently, ie they are changing settings on your PC rather than blocking the ports in question, but the end effect is the same.
