Your modem settings what you posted appear to be within the normal range of operation.

It just sounds like another congestion problem where you live; its quite common for some areas at the moment and im in one of those areas. Its common to check for spyware and viruses and NTL CS always tell their customers this but unlikely to cause bad speeds, same deal with the router.

You could try opening DOS (cmd prompt) and doing a tracert e.g. tracert www.bbc.co.uk and post the output back here.

Right OK... is the speed still bad if you boot up in safe mode with networking?

(if this kills your PC cos its riddled with virus, dont blame me!)

if anything it seems worse in safemode

speed test reports 0.2mbps

onlything i have noticed the ds light on the modem flashes about once a sec even with the pc off when its not doing this i seem to get full speed

KevAmiga

firewall prolly isnt going to do anything.

I just checked that modem. 100% loss. Oddness.

Double check that MAC address. Re-PM me it and also your postcode mate.

Dude - As i said in my PM

Try 2mb. Could be the network isnt stable @ 10mbps in your area yet?

Id rather a constant 2mb than a yoyoing 10mb.

theoretically if your experiencing a poor service on 10Mbit you'll get the same on 1 / 2Mbit.

I was on 1Mbit and the service was terrible in stafford. Constant packet loss, dodgy throughput and bad download speeds. Its all down to congestion now we have faster upload speeds and download speed may also affect it sometimes.

However i've also put in my 1months cancellation notice.

GL!

update

engineer out today changed my modem for one of the little dinky 250's

Wed, 18 Jan 2006 15:36:13 GMT

1st 512K took 469 ms = 1091.7 KB/sec, approx 8297 Kbps, 8.1 Mbps
2nd 512K took 610 ms = 839.3 KB/sec, approx 6379 Kbps, 6.2 Mbps
3rd 512K took 547 ms = 936 KB/sec, approx 7114 Kbps, 6.9 Mbps
4th 512K took 485 ms = 1055.7 KB/sec, approx 8023 Kbps, 7.8 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 7453 Kbps, 7.25 Mbps

am a happy bunny now still not reaching its full 10 meg but thats to be expected
if it stays at this i will be happy fingers crossed its fixed now
engineer did say the 120's are struggling on the 10 meg so anyone getting probs ask for the modem to be changed
:Yikes:

theoretically if your experiencing a poor service on 10Mbit you'll get the same on 1 / 2Mbit.

Not quite.... if the config file in the area for 10mb is screwed... 2mb should work OK. Also, if the modems firmware cannot handle 10mb, same again 2mb should be OK.
