My broadband has been off all day, just come back on (1345)...
Telephoned India earlier and they reckon my modem is faulty and I've got an engineer coming on Tuesday. Just wondered if anyone else has had problems today.
Great forum by the way
Cheers Dave.

No I just rung the normal CS number at 9.30 this morning , got straight through:Yikes: and it was someone in India and his supervisor I spoke to.

cheers Dave

There was actually a massive outage in this area today. ST16 & ST17 I believe, your broadband should now be fine :o)

Thanks for that info nfs6600,
Just a shame NTL couldn't keep the status telephone line updated.

Hi, i'm in ST16 and had an outage most of the day on Thursday (5th Jan).
I called the Indian Tech support for my UK NTL cable connection as usual.
The guy on the phone didn't have a clue what he was on about as usual and just told me to restart my modem a few times as usual.

Finally convinced him to get someone to look into it and booked a tech visit for Friday (6th Jan).

The service went on again late Thursday night, got a call from the UK tech guy on Friday morning stating there was an outage (which by this time i already knew), and he asked if everything was fine again, which it seemed to be.

I have just the Broadband service and am having the 'free upgrade' from 3Mb to 10Mb which is in process at the moment, the UK tech guy mentioned something about it going in stages and some other tech jargon i didn't really understand.

Since the outage i've had an extremely shaky connection, it doesn't go off, but DL speeds and packet loss seems to be up and down a lot.

I play a couple online games and have experienced up to 10% packet loss in these games every day since the outage (starting off low early in the day and getting higher until it peaks at about 8pm), which makes game play almost impossible.

I am getting a bit frustrated with it now and am curious how long this problem will continue for, or if there's anything i can do my end to sort this bad connection/loss out.

I use the little blue "ntl: 250" cable modem if this info is of any use.
I have checked the modem manually via the LED lights and http://192.168.100.1 and they all seem to be normal.

ADSLGuide.org speed tests returned:
Direction ...........Actual Speed ........................True Speed (estimated)
Downstream ......1396 Kbps (174.5 KB/sec) ........1507 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream ..........161 Kbps (20.1 KB/sec) ...........173 Kbps (inc. overheads)

i have the exactly the same problem in the stafford area, ST16 i'm in beaconside by the RAF camp.

Same issues as you, too much packet loss, slow downloads and online gaming is impossible. :(

I just pulled this directly from the NTL service status page.

On the morning of Thursday 12th January between midnight and 6am, the following work will take place:-

Network upgrades will result in a brief loss of service in Solent, Leicester, Guilford, Belfast City, Cambridge, Shepshed, Biggleswade, Stafford, Swindon, Middlesborough, Coventry, Watford and the surrounding areas.
Maybe this will sort some problems for us. :erm:
But i'm not holding my breath.

Found to be off line again at mid-day.:(
CS aware of an area problem and expected to be back on by 4pm.
Advised to us the status line number for updates:rofl:
Packet loss all over the place from 2 to 20% the worst being east coast USA severs.

Its like getting blood from a stone ringing CS so its probably not going to get any better until they run the next re-balance script.

I rather un-usable atm :( :(

Looks like it didn't help.
Loss is still pretty bad.
Guess we'll just have to wait until they get it right.
