Frank

Everyone must have seen our thread about ntli.info (http://forum.nthellworld.co.uk/showthread.php?t=3549) by now.

We're now ready to recruit some people to help make ntli.info a useful source of information.

We need...

1. Category Managers - people with technical knowledge and a responsible attitude to oversee one or more categories.
2. Authors/Editors - people to write articles to help others.

Anyone who feels that they would like to write some articles to add to the site is very welcome to join our editor's mailing list (http://nthellworld.co.uk/mailman/listinfo/ntli-editors_nthellworld.co.uk). You should also post in this thread and tell us...

1. The e-mail address you are signing up from (your mailing list join request will not be accepted unless we see your e-mail in this thread).
2. What categories you are likely to write articles for (doesn't have to be set in stone :))
3. A brief description of your experience/level of knowledge and in what areas (to help us - not as an assessment of you).

We are also looking for Category Managers. These people will oversee one or more Categories and be responsible for checking the quality of the articles and correcting any mistakes they may notice. If you feel you would like to help us out here, then please post below a summary of your experience in relation to which categories you would like to manage. Alternatively, if you do want to make this information public, then you can use the contact us (http://www.nthellworld.co.uk/?page=contact)form :)

Thanks to all those who have already joined up to the editors list after the RFC.

The Categories are:

hm throws his hat in

email - mark dot jones-lunn at ntlworld dot com

Chosen subjects - Networking (wired/wireless), Broadband, Narrowband, Digital TV (Langley), Analogue TV and Telco.

Other subjects - Email, specifically OE, Internet (general), ADSL, NTL installation (whats used and where), NTL network.

Personally I think this site could also use a Glossary of terms, We dont want to go scaring people with TCP/IP and HFC now do we :D

Perhaps I could just help by making the Brews ;)

And your starter for 10 points is... :D

email is NTLI at scarlett dot me dot uk

Seriously though I'd like to volenteer to write stuff for the billing section (industry related not NTL specific) from two years worth of supporting a billing software for many customers.

I'd be happy to help out with the glossary (i.e. coordination of)

scarlett.

Edited having re read the instructions :dunce:

I'm happy to be a Category Manager if asked, I may even stretch to an article or two.

My subject area is Networking, BB, General Internet and PC's - I run a support team that covers this sort of thing.

E-mail : pem at zmnt.net.

ok, you know the email already ...

I would like to offer my knowledge on:

BB
Dialup
Gen Internet
Digi TV
Analog TV
Installation
Telephony

... I'll help with the glossary too HM.

I'm sure there are other categories that can be added ....

As for the Category Manager thing, is this to be on a trial basis first, if so put me forward. Love to do it, but need to gauge others knowledge too :)

Sales & Marketing is my past life and Social Work my Career of choice. (Child protection & Welfare Rights being my specialities)

Main Hobby is helping people be that with any of my hats on including setting up and maintaining PC's for people with disabilities.

Main help I give on these forums is on the PC front but seem to have a working knowledge of "how stuff works" that has enabled me to give useful suggestions to those having tech problems.

Sociable by name and nature I do have a campaigning side too, as anyone here from the start will be able to confirm. On the very first evening .co.uk opened I started the very first CAP thread here just so I would feel "At Home". LOL

NB: Why not merge the other posts in the "Itroduction" thread with this one and keep all the details together?

Would love to help on a regular basis, but right now lack of appropriate available time slots is the enemy.

Prehaps its possible to be a part time contributor and send ideas/article drafts etc to editors which could then be expanded upon by editors/authors.

Background, 25 years in the Defense Electronics Industry. Skills H/W, S/W, PC's, Unix etc

email metawraith at ntlworld dot com when it works

Guys.

Thanks for posting your details. Please make sure you have included your e-mail address in this thread if you haven't already.

Then either:

- Send a blank e-mail to ntli-editors-subscribe@nthellworld.co.uk; or
- Go to http://nthellworld.co.uk/mailman/listinfo/ntli-editors_nthellworld.co.uk

This will sign you up onto our mailing list.

PS. Who is Daniel Board, he's sat in the queue but ain't going nowhere at the moment cos he ain't posted in this thread. Please post so we know who you are :)

Yes, I would like to help if at all possible, but I'm not sure if my technical expertise will be up to it. Have worked in the IT industry for a number of years, so if, for example, there is a role for a not too technical person to validate some of the technical articles that would be me.

Again, I would prefer if someone could PM to me - I do not want to leave an email address here.

Thanks, J

Well I'm willing to try and help - not that I've got loads of spare time,

I've worked in the following areas of ntl (although I no longer work for them)

ntl: Business (now under Home) V-ISP Wholesale Internet (Resellers Virgin.net, Tesco.net, Which Online) - Technical Support Agent.

ntl: Business Internet Tech Support - Business Leased Lines, Cable Modem, ADSL and Dial-up services.

ntl: Home Customer Service/Faults Agent - Dealing with ex-Cable and Wireless Regions, doing Digital TV and Telco Faults.

I am now a Tech Support Officer on a government project at major University dealing with Public Sector organisations. Dealing with Internet connection issues, DNS, Mail etc....

I have a lot of experience when it comes to ntl Internet related things; Dial-up connections, Broadband Connections, Telco problems.

I also have a good knowledge of Linux and Home Networking, NAT Translation Firewall rules etc...

I have some articles that are about ready for posting. I have lost the email (poxy outlook) that was sent with my username and password for access.
