PC player for Sony Atrac format?

A friend has asked me if there is a PC player to play the files he can create that are in the Sony ATRAC format?

I cant find anything but reviews on the net, does anyone know about this format? If there is a media player codec etc?

The way I understand it from the use of my Net MD, you can't upload tracks from the MD to the PC (Sony's doing apparently!!)

You can only transfer from the PC to the MD, Sony's software is called Sonic stage or something. The only problem is, its ****, infect so crap I haven't even bothered loading it this time.

What I did find is a plug in for real one player, that allows you to copy Mp3 or WMA direct to the MD without using Sony' software.

The way the plug in works it to convert your Mp3's to one of the three Atrac format and then transfers it to the player. It doesn't store the music in Atrac, it is only used on the MD.

I just wish Microsoft would provide a plug in for WMP 9, I prefer that to Realone, alas I don't think M$ want to upset Sony :(
