View Full Version : Is any of this true?

Inspired by WNA's HTML troubles, I thought I'd cast an idle glance over my own ntl webspace, which to date I have never used for anything. Imagine my surprise to find they have helpfully put a default index.html file in there for me. Nothing amazing in that, but look what they put in a meta tag:

<meta HTTP-EQUIV="DESCRIPTION" CONTENT="At NTL, we'll be able to cater
for all your communications requirements. Whatever you need, wherever
you live in the UK. One company, one bill. Just hang on in there,
we're coming to the rescue.
NTL. Technology. Tamed">

Is this complete line of drivel entirely (or even partially) true for anyone?

lol, nothing in that is true apart from possibly being able to cater for all requirements. One company? Barely. One bill? Not when that was written for sure.

Point by point

1) At NTL, we'll be able to cater
for all your communications requirements.

Sorry, I need a reliable mobile phone. I need reliable e-mail. You duck out on both counts.

2) Whatever you need, wherever you live in the UK.

What about the Shetland Islands? They are in the UK, can they get broadband, feck off!

3) One company, one bill.

mmmm, actually your a collection of companies

ntl.home, ntl.business, ntl.urmwhatwastheotherone?, and the holding company.

One bill, for each different service in some regions.

4) Just hang on in there, we're coming to the rescue.

Sorry, chapter 11 *cough*, anyone needs rescuing its you!

5) NTL. Technology. Tamed

BT provide a better phone service, many ISPs provide broadband, your dial-up service is incompatible with a large number of operating systems, your interactive doesn't work, try Lamed.

Just hang on in there,
we're coming to the rescue.

They should add " and we are coming soon -- don't know when ---- but soon---honest"

BT provide a better phone service

:blah: :blah:

Tosh, I spend my time at work speaking to bt customers and I have never heard such bad lines, its common knowledge that ntl lines are crystal clear compared to bt's.

I agree, my NTL line is much better than my old BT line was. It will also connect at 56k on dial up, where my BT line struggled to achieve 33k.

However I agree the META tag is a touch over the top. A good reason to put up a page of your own :)

So all that hissing and crackling on my phone line today was BT's fault huh?

Yup, they employ gremlins to tap into NTL lines and hiss :D
