Erm .... you ARE joking aren't you ?? :Yikes:
I doubt even the most experience bio-chemist could recognise a protein from its chemical formula let alone a structural drawing. :erm:
Looks like a Martin to me :D
Do you actually mean Martian?
Because I'm having a hard job seeing the resemblance to Martin. ;)
I think I have one of these at home in a cardboard box.
It's with the Christmas tree, I think.
:)

Well, we obviously know different Martins ;)
Actually, if you just look at the thumbnail rather than the enlarged version, it loloks like some sort of insect that has been made up of various images.
Right, I'm off to see if I can catch Martin :D
I'm a bit thick but you could look here http://www.strgen.org/:)

A quick google search shows it's her DNA, the name? Birka

Nah, it doesn't look anything like her - Xaccers image isn't a brunette :disturbd:

It looks like the mess I make when I'm wrapping a present. Does that count as a protein? :)
Actually it's the latest origami craze ! :D

That's lucky, 'cos it definitely wasn't funny :disturbd:
/ :Yikes: Nug admits to a bad gag - what is the world coming too :D
Actually, if you turn it upside down it looks a bit like Rolf Harris after a particularly bad incident with his paint...
And no, I can't tell what it is yet.
Unfortunatley I don't know anything about protein ribbon diagrams (hey I did astrophysics and it wasn't on the silibus!), so I can't break it down into it's constituent parts to get an idea what it might be.

has an awesomely complicated name though, it's almost welsh it is that complicated ;)

to stay on topic, was just a demonstration to show how complex the challenge is going to be...
me, i'm a mechanical engineer so i know even less about protein structure than an astrophysicist (patrick moore in the making, please say you have a monocle...) ;) it looks purdy though...

Welsh? Nah, it's got too many vowels to be Welsh ;)
Sorry, I meant Whlsh ;) :p:

I must be sad i just spent 1/2 hour viewing images to try and find it and the nearest i got was this :dunce:

Be fair Dave - if Russ got near you, you'd probably be scarred ;)

I think it's the shaved head that makes everyone think he's a hard man.
Oh, hang on, shaved? Maybe not
Anyway, I was only joking Coggy :)

I haven't a clue sorry. What will you get if you get it right?
Just to see what we would be sharing prizewise if we help.

Well, there is one in my profile but, to be fair, you may need to steel yourself before you look at it :)
EDIT: Oh, and I'm fairly sure that Russ knows I'm joking too. Let's face it, I'm not exactly having a problem with my fringe getting in the way either :)

Is it D.N.A ?
I've carefully checked and as no one has seen fit to point it out, may I respectfully say that DNA is not a protein. :)
By the way, I clicked on properties and there was not a single bit of information about its properties. All it did was witter on about location and width and height and such like.
Can anyone put a name to this protein?
Wasn't that the one in the Tate Modern...? :D
Can anyone put a name to this protein?Well it's symmetrical about the Y-axis.....if that helps...

Nah, that's definitely the z-axis about which it is symmetrical.
PS Note the hyperpedantic use of the preposition. :)
marky now moves slowly away from geekdom :Sprint:

To be honest I googled imaged protein and looked through, dna came up on it and the piccy was not far away from the one xaccers posted.
The colours in the picture must denote different amino acid chains, if thats the case and we can find out what they are (if the colours are standard) we could perhaps deduce the protein from it's amino acid sequence.........(clutching at straws) :D

this is all quite topical as many companies are trying to patent peptide sequences ;)

I think it looks like Cytochromes b5
See here http://www.icgeb.org/~p450srv/P450_MOLSCRIPT.html (http://www.icgeb.org/%7Ep450srv/P450_MOLSCRIPT.html) (last entry in the list mentioned here)

PS - I was assuming the question was genuine
PPS - The amount of silly/OT posting on this thread is phenomenal! It must be late. :)

So far I have submitted patent requests for all the 'proteins' mentioned in this thread so far.

Thanks SWW, don't think it's Cytochromes b5 as there's two what I would call chemical models (the ball and stick framework) in my protien and there apears to be only one in Cytochromes b5
But huge thanks for trying.
And yes, given the vast number of posts off topic, I'm suprised there's been no mod intervention...
Did you find out what it was?
