Welcome to the film list of 2021. I am making this year's list hesitantly as things are very much up in the air at the moment. I always make a disclaimer and say dates are subject to change and I'll do my best to keep the list up to date and that is even more relevant this year. Pretty much every major release of 2020 was delayed until 2021 or made available on a streaming service and I am expecting that to be the case this year despite some films already having been put back for a third time into the spring. The current tier restrictions in the UK and the state of the pandemic in the US has put the cinema industry and the boxoffice in a precarious state and I wouldn't be surprised if many movies are further delayed into summer or the end of the year when a vaccine rollout is well underway and there is a relaxation in restrictions and increased consumer confidence.

As always this is a collaborative effort so if I have missed something off the list or if you would like to see a film added just make a post in this thread and I'll add it to the list. Trailers will be added as soon as they become available so keep checking back for updates.

I think this year's list is very strong and definitely better than what should have been released last year. Take a good look because there are plenty of films coming out which sound good and I hadn't heard of.

Dates in bold are films which were originally planned for this year and have been delayed until next year. This post is by no means a comprehensive list of the 2022 release slate and the films are listed purely as an advisory measure so you know what has happened to them if you were expecting them this year. A new thread will be created towards the end of the year for the 2022 schedule.

I read for Spiderman 3 that Andrew Garfield and Toby Maguire will be reprising their roles in a multi-verse. Now seeing the Trailer for Loki and the introduction of the TVA and can see this happening.

The upcoming Flash film (not on your list) also has multi-verse with Michael Keaton reprising his Batman

Ah, thats better,

A few others as well ;

Sony also announced a delay for Camila Cabello's Cinderella, originally planned for February 5. It will now come out on July 16.

Uncharted's release date has also been moved back into next year – so you'll have to wait until February 11, 2022 to see Tom Holland as Nathan Drake.

Meanwhile, Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Jared Leto's Morbius also move back again, to November 2021 and January 2022 respectively.

Stephen

It's hardly regurgitated.

This new film is 4 hours long and uses most of Snyders footage.

The other JL was heavily reshot and the plot changed by Joss Whedon, due to Snyder stepping down near the end of filming because of family tragedy.

This is finally his vision come tp life. About 80% of this is unseen.

Quite a few films have shifted a week or two since I last updated date but I am expecting some big changes now that we have an end in sight. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-56496213 Cineworld has announced it will reopen US cinemas next month, followed by the UK in May, after signing a deal with Warner Bros to show films in theatres before they are streamed.

The company will open a handful of its Regal cinemas in the US in early April.

Godzilla vs. Kong will be the first film to make its debut in the theatres.

Cineworld said the deal with Warner Bros means films will have a period of exclusivity in cinemas before being made more widely available.

Just updated the list, pretty much everything has been pushed 2-4 weeks. The closest one to be aware of is Godzilla vs Kong; pushed 2 weeks to the beginning of June presumably to give cinemas a bit of breathing room and a chance to get up and running again.

I am hoping that for the first 2 weeks they bring some big hitters as well as classics back. I would love to see Infinity War and Endgame on the big screen again as a precursor to Black Widow.

Digital on the 22nd which is good enough for me

“Dune” director Denis Villeneuve is still bothered that his latest sci-fi epic will premiere day-and-date in theaters and HBO Max, saying that his film was made for the big screen and not for televisions.

Villeneuve in a new interview with Total Film said that the pandemic is the “enemy of the cinema” and acknowledged the “tremendous pressure” that the industry is under, but he doubled down on some of his previous comments about the film’s move to streaming.

“The way it happened, I’m still not happy. Frankly, to watch ‘Dune’ on a television, the best way I can compare it is to drive a speedboat in your bathtub,” Villeneuve said in an interview published Tuesday. “For me, it’s ridiculous. It’s a movie that has been made as a tribute to the big-screen experience.”

but how many people have got surround systems they can be proud of. I have got a massive Sony TV, cinema projector and Bose surround sound system (which sounds amazing) but it still doesn't beat the cinema experience. I would argue that if you was going to make the effort to see one film at the cinema this year that it should be this one. The cinematography is going to phenomenal.

Sony Pictures has once again moved the release date of “Venom: Let There Be Carnage,” announcing on Monday that it will be pushed up two weeks from Oct. 15 to Oct. 1. It was initially slated to premiere Sept. 24.

The move keeps the Marvel tentpole film in what is expected to be a busy October at the box office, but now puts it one week ahead of MGM’s James Bond film “No Time to Die” and three weeks ahead of Warner Bros.’ blockbuster “Dune,” which received praise following its premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

I can take a guess as its titled resurrection, so as also explained in previous movies the matrix repeats afresh every so often. Looks like the machines have decided that in order to prevent this they are keeping Neo alive and subdued by giving him blue pills. However others have other ideas, and so begins trying to free Neo and get him to remember who he is.

I was being sarcastic. I couldn't less whether people are black, white pink or blue and it really pisses me off every time a good film comes out and somebody says "there weren't enough black people in it " or "it should have had a female director". I am very passionate about the right person for the right job and being PC and giving a job to a female director for example for the sake it doesn't immediately make the film amazing. Charlies Angels is a perfect example of that. LOTR was fantastic and I didn't even notice there weren't any black people in it until they made a big deal about it at the Oscars.

So you've seen the trailer and already made your mind up. How do you know it will not be an amazing film because the main cast are black? I care not what colour the actors are. What would you have thought about LOTR if there weren't any white people in it until they made a big deal about it?

Talk about double standards...

I’m confused - you loved Black Panther, which had a Black director, was co-written by a Black screenwriter (with the director), and had a predominately Black cast.

What different about this film?

Perhaps he is questioning how "realistic" is it.

Its a common trend in films and tv from the US now.
The "representation" of minorities now generally exceeds reality.

I have no idea what % the coloured population was in the west back then (excluding slaves I guess).
I could not find an equivelent for race, but in a 2019 poll, people in the US estimated that 23.6% of the population were gay, you can probably guess where they got that perception from (the real figure is about 4.5%).

"realistic"?

As compared to a fictional hidden high-tech kingdom in Africa?

Anyway, it is estimated that up to 25% of all cowboys in late 19th Century USA (after the Civil War) were Black.

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/lesser-known-history-african-american-cowboys-180962144/

https://www.oupress.com/books/14520297/black-cowboys-in-the-american-west

Re the estimates - it’s not just gays they overestimate, they do the same thing for Hispanics and Blacks.

https://news.gallup.com/poll/4435/public-overestimates-us-black-hispanic-populations.aspx

The typical American estimates the percentages of blacks and Hispanics in this country to be more than twice as high as they actually are.

On average, Americans say that 33% of the U.S. population is black. In fact, a majority of Americans (56%) estimate that the percentage of blacks in this country stands at 30% or higher. As many as 17% of Americans say the percentage of blacks is 50% or greater. Only 7% accurately state that the percentage of blacks falls between 10% and 14% of the entire population.

Americans' impressions about the percentage of Hispanics in this country are somewhat more accurate than their impressions about the percentage of blacks. Americans, on average, say that 29% of the U.S. population is Hispanic, which is slightly more than twice the actual percentage of Hispanics. About two in five Americans say Hispanics constitute 30% or more of the population. Just 10% accurately estimate that between 10% and 14% of the population is Hispanic.

Thats a comparison you made, not me. ;)

I mearly suggested he was questioning how realistic an (almost) all black cast would be for a western.

25% is only 1 in 4 - but then of course, its possible that gangs back then would likely all be similar in make up (i.e. all black, or all white). :)

---------- Post added at 16:31 ---------- Previous post was at 16:29 ----------

either way, the film looked ok, and on my list to check out when it arrives.

It might be, who knows until you see it.

not really, i couldn't care less whether a film is all white or black (e.g. Black Panther) as long as it is a good film. All my comments were in gest and purely to point out the irony and hypocrisy of this particular film because Regina King is in it. If it was an all white cast she would be the first person to moan her ass off about the lack of black actors in it so because I noticed her in the trailer my comments were intended to sarcastically prove a point and I wonder if she said to anyone "where are the white guys?"

I mearly suggested he was questioning how realistic an (almost) all black cast would be for a western.
I am glad to see you are embracing your realism factor but in this instance I was solely trying to highlight Regina King's double standards.

I would assume that's part of the point of the film. Imagining a wild west where the characters are predominately black.

You might want to remember that most people (including me) have no clue who Regina King is, or what she moans about. You point was totally lost.

You can't lose tbh. I love Ryan Reynolds in anything, me and him are on exactly the same wavelength humour wise. I like The Rock as well and have enjoyed him in all of his recent movies. I think Gal Gadot is absolutely stunning and would watch her read out the phonebook for 10 hours straight.
