View Full Version : They Shall Not Grow Old
My jaw dropped when I saw the trailer for this film. So moving that these brave men can be seen as real as you & I.
A work of genius ..

Only seen a few brief excerpts so far but yes it's absolutely stunning how the footage has been transformed.

It's coming right to the BBC isn't it? The cinema screenings were a limited release I think.

EDIT: Yup: It was commissioned by the Imperal War Museum and the BBC: https://www.iwm.org.uk/events/peter-jackson-they-shall-not-grow-old

my local Picture House cinema is showing it Sunday afternoon in 3d
edit: sadly sold out :(
Mark Kermode talking to Peter Jackson about it is interesting as well

I'm looking forward to this. You might be interested to know that a copy is being sent to every secondary school, which I think is a brilliant way to help keep their memory alive for future generations.

A reminder that it's on tonight at 21:30 on BBC2.
Tomorrow at 19:30 on BBC4 (with a repeat at 2am the following morning), there is a programme called 'What Do Artists Do All Day?' This is a behind the scenes look at the work of director Peter Jackson who created this programme.
At 22:00 there is a programme called 'A Scottish Soldier: A Lost Diary of WW1' that is dedicated to the role that a black soldier called Arthur Roberts played in the war.
I used to watch Blackadder with my dad when I was a kid. At the very end of Blackadder Goes Forth I remember looking at him and asking "They didn't really do that did they?" as going over the top seemed so ridiculous.
I had intended to watch the first 30 mins of They Shall Not Grow old, and then go to bed, I stayed up to watch the whole thing I was so gripped. Not exactly an enjoyable watch, but very interesting, eye opening, and horrible at the same.
