It appears to follow on from T2.

there have been a couple of articles about it in SFX a while ago and they were taking the piss out of James Cameron because he is basically pretending nothing happened after T2 and he is starting all over again. I am really busy this week but if I remember next week I'll try and find them post them.

Can't be any worse than the last few movies.

It will have to go some to beat T2.

tbf, you seem to only like things from before the mid-90s...

Is it a reboot though, as it technically is in the existing timeline and continues the story after T2 along with existing characters and cast?

I'd say that makes it a sequel.

I'd say that makes it a sequel. But it would mean that the last 3 Terminator films (T3, Salvation, and Genesys) weren't canon, as it would be basically ignoring their existence and the events that happened in them.

That's fine by me.

Good.

It's like the proposed new alien films that would have picked up after Aliens and ignored Alien 3/4 v predator etc.

But it got shelved because Ridley Scott wanted top make a prequel trilogy (that worked out well didn't it)

I would have much preferred to have seen Ripley & Hicks & Newt again.

Ya I heard about that.........

I think Aliens is perfect the way it is....

Alien 1 - GREAT
Alien 2 - EXCELLENT
Alien 3 - GOOD

I think it should have ended with part 3.....

Wonder what models the new Terminators are. Sure we'll get more info soon.

General Maximus

yeah, given the franchise fatigue I wouldn't be surprised if they do a couple of featurettes and explore the design and concept phase of the new Terminator to create an impression that they care and have put a lot of thought in to it.

It looks like James Cameron didn't like the last ones either. They're also hoping this will be the start of a new trilogy as well.

There’s a lot riding on Terminator: Dark Fate. After Terminator Salvation and Terminator: Genisys disappointed audiences, there’s a lot of skepticism about whether or not Terminator can actually continue as a viable franchise. That’s especially true after both of those previous films were intended to kick off new trilogies. But it sounds like zero lessons have been learned by Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions, because they’re hoping for a new Terminator trilogy yet again.

“One of the things that seemed obvious from looking at the films that came along later was that we would need to get everything back to the basics and that we would need to avoid the mistakes of making things overly complex and that we needed to avoid stories that jumps around in time and one that goes backward and forward in time. Let’s keep it simple in the relative unity of time. With the story, let’s have the whole thing play out in 36 hours or 48 hours. In the first two movies everything plays out in less than two days in each one so there’s energy and momentum.”
