Just getting to the end of my James Bond blu ray boxset, which I got 2 years ago. It was going well till I got to Pierce Brosnan, then I struggled...

Haven't seen Spectre yet, however here are my favourite Bonds, (I'm ignoring the silly but enjoyable David Niven film)

6: Lazenby (bit unfair he only got one go)
5: Brosnan (nice bloke and actor, but just not Bond)
4: Moore (had a charm but it all got too silly)
3: Craig (return to the true Bond of the books, but the violence a bit OTT)
2: Dalton (very under-rated and was nearly no.1)
1: Connery (never bettered)

Tell me I'm wrong ;)

Lazenby is at the wrong end of that list. He didn't do a second film only because his agent advised him not to (he thought the franchise wouldn't survive into the 1970s). Connery came back and did another one* after Lazenby because he suddenly saw that he was totally replaceable, and the franchise did have a future without him. Lazenby's excellent performance in OHMSS is the reason we can enjoy Connery's final official turn as Bond in DAF.

Moore was badly let down by the descent into self parody that plagued all his films after TMWTGG but overall your rating is probably fair. By the time he got to AVTAK he was phoning in his performance.

Craig has the advantage of a reboot, being able to develop the character from the very beginning of his recruitment into the 00 programme (even Connery didn't get that) but he has taken that and run with it. His films stand apart from the others, and for my money Craigs Casino Royale is by far the cleverest Bond film ever made.

Craig's tenure has been very blowy-uppy and violent but the franchise is now competing with its many imitators so they dont really have much choice but to go for broke with the FX.

*Connery did of course do two more Bond films after saying YOLT would be his last ... he re-made Thunderball as Never Say Never Again, the "unofficial" Bond film of 1983.

Little known trivia is that Dalton is the closest to how Fleming wanted to character portrayed. Lazenby sucked imo, he had the best story to do something with and was unconvincingly wooden imo. Moore is my favourite, if I were a boiler suited henchman I think I'd like to be sent on my way with a witty one liner. I think Craig is the worst, the poor man's jason Bourne

For me Craig is my favourite and Skyfall my favourite movie. Different generation for me though having only seen Brosnans and Craig's as they were fresh out. I see Timothy Dalton in a lot of things now and I generally like him so I'm tempted to watch the classics.

I have seen all of the Bond films and Skyfall in my opinion the worst.

I accept most of that but "The Spy Who Loved Me" which came after TMWTGG is IMO one of the top 5 Bond films of all time.

It's also the only time you see Bond in Military uniform, in rank, in any Bond film.

Lazenby has the best scene in any Bond film, sliding on his front whilst taking out baddies with his sten gun.

OHMSS was excellent IMO and Lazenby was just great in the role. Before the series eventually descended in to parodying itsself.

FRWL is my fav out of all the films though.

Sean Connery for me by a country mile.

Likewise. Film favourite: You only live twice with Donald Pleasence as a quintessential Blofeld.

Trivia: Autogyro "Little Nelly" was flown by her creator Ken Wallis.

Since the BEST Bond film is Live and Let Die, the award for best 007 has to go to Roger Moore

Best bond theme, now there's a thing..

I like them all, but my list is......

1. A view to a kill
2. Another way to die
3. The writings on the wall
4. Live and let die
5. Diamonds are forever
6. Licence to kill
7. Gold finger
8. Thunderball
9. Theme from OHMSS
10. You know my name

Cheers.

Nah! The best Bond film is the original Casino Royale with 7 James Bond's but chiefly David Niven who thus is the best Bond. (OK so the baddy was Jimmy Bond but so what!).

I think the reason the franchise did work is that it was a bit tongue in cheek so could appeal to family audiences.

I can't class that Casino Royale as a proper Bond film at all.

It was tongue in cheek but by the time it got to Brosnan it was over the top tongue in cheek. That's why people for fed up with it I think.
