Leeds has finally got 100mb...

I have the WNR2000 router (netgear) supplied by virgin for 50mb.

I know if I upgrade now its the superhub but can I use the current router supplied that I aready have or will virgin take it back? as I thought I owned the router.

The other thing is I am currently on this package.

Phone M
TV XL
BB 30mb

Total comes to £57 a month

I was on 50mb till wife lost her job but she is back at work now.

It says on the the VM website that 100mb is from 7.50 a month but it doesn't say how much it will cost me.

Can anyone give me some idea on current package the extra cost will be per month to get the 100mb added?

Thanks

1) You can keep your current router. They will give you a shub which you can put in modem mode (which I strongly recommend you do) and use your current router as is. The only thing I would advise you to do is check to see whether it has gigabit ports, if not you'll need a new router.
2) 50mbit is going to be upgraded to 100mbit anyway so you will only have to pay the difference between 30mbit and 50mbit which cant be more than a few £££. At the most it will £7.50 which is what the website might be hinting at. Ring them up and see what they say.

they will also ask you for 50 quid installation fee because an engineer may come to fix the power levels if needs

i dont know whether they still insist on that for 100mbi. The best thing you can do is check them yourself first and see what they are like and then tell them they are ok when you ring up. I checked mine were okay but at the time they were anal and insisted an engineer still come out "to install the services" (Indian call centers) and he sweet fa when he came around apart from give me a shub i didnt want.

I think you might get away with it now though. Ask them to send you a shub and you will ring them if you have any probs.

Also everything below the top tier is now self install where levels permit

It is a verrrrrrry long story. I wanted to keep my vmng300 and they said i could, but the engineer came round when i wasnt in and swapped it over for a shub. I flipped my lid and put in a complaint and got my vmng300 back

yeah I am still using the WNR2000 Netgear router but I dont think they would let me use that for 100mb

it's not up to them dude. They can force you to use a shub as the modem but there is nothing to stop you from banging it into modem mode and using whatever router you want to

I've read some members use their current modems that they got with 50mb tell virgin they want to keep the current modem even though virgin say they can't do 100mb but I heard the old ones can go upto 200mb?

there capable of doing 200mbit, but only bond just enough to manage those speeds, it should be fine up to 120mbit, anything beyond that, your going to be best off with the superhub

I am going to keep my vmng300 for as long as poss; I am curious to see what I can get out of it. I'll be disappointed if it is only 120mbit. I was hoping for more around 150.

I'm hard wired anyway but the wife uses wifi so would have to use a seperate router judging from the wifi of the superhub the grief I would get from her wouldn't be worth living....anything for an easy life lol

As I say the device itself well capable of 200mbit, its just network load that will stop you getting there

One thing I did notice when I go into "my offers" once logged into my VM account it doesn't give me the option to upgrade to 60mb only 100mb and have the Superhub at a cost of £50 for installation.

I'm sure if I rung up it would be different but online I dont get the option other than 100mb

Thats because you are on XL broadband so the next offer up is an upgrade to XXL - which is 100Mbit

I'm on 30mb so 60mb should be my next option? I used to be 50mb but downgraded when wife lost her job

If you are on XL then, XXL is your next option

To go from XL 30 to XL 60 isn't changing your tier of service - it's still XL so won't be in the My Offers as thats for paid upgrades
