Impressive - above speed is via Super Hub wireless (albeit about 30cm away from my laptop).

Logged into My Virgin Media yesterday and there was an option to 'Upgrade Me' to my new speed from 20Mb to 60Mb. Filled in the form and got an email today asking me to ring in and confirm some missing info, 5 mins on the phone and told to switch SH off for an hour and hey presto 60Mb it is when switched back on.

Seems like the upgrades have begun early as according to the main site, my area wasn't due until July!

Virgin Media - I salute you!:nworthy:

he should be hitting at least 3, may be its a wireless issue. Superblade can you test via wired and post your result.

as for 6Mb up, VM....

Will my upload speed increase, as well?

Yes! It’s not just your downloads that’ll become much faster. Your upload speeds will be automatically increased as we upgrade our network, so you get the best of both worlds.

Depending on the progress of the network upgrade there maybe a delay after your download speed is increased before your upload speed boost occurs.

the long term plan is all speeds will have a 10:1 ratio but the upload speed increase might follow a bit after the download.

Interim upgrade, full upgrade including the upstream will follow once the area is enabled for upstream bonding.

I've a similar interim upgrade.

Primary Downstream Service Flow
Downstream(0)
SFID 5883
Max Traffic Rate 111000000 bps

Primary Upstream Service Flow
Upstream(0)
SFID 5882
Max Traffic Rate 5120000 bps

Bit silly since they've barely finished the 10:1 upstream uplift in most areas yet and are already having to revert to lower upstream ratios.

Clearly their commitment to 10:1 ratios only applies as long as it's not at the cost of marketing excessive download speeds in the interim.

Andrew,

I logged into My Virgin Media and just above the box with your bill info was a green box saying click for more info about speed upgrades. Clicked on that and then another box popped up stating my upgrade was 20 to 60 and advising me to click on the 'Upgrade Me' button.

It may only be available as and when your upgrade is ready to be rolled out.

Hope that helps, Superblade7

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2012/03/39.png (http://www.speedtest.net)

Just done a few tests wired and there is little difference to be honest - the above is the highest upload speed I managed (varied from 2.5 to the above) so it would seem that it is like Ignition mentioned earlier and an interim upgrade to the download speeds. The upload has gone up a little though as the highest I ever achieved on 20Mb was around 2Mb.

So I'll say well done to VM on this occasion, they have delivered what they promised earlier than expected and made the £3.50 price increase seem a little more palatable now (just hope they throw in some more HD on the TV side too and make Superblade a happy boy!!!).

I get the same green box at the top: "We've started boosting our customers' broadband speeds around the country. Got any questions about when your area's getting upgraded or how it will affect your broadband?"

Clicking the link though gives me a nice yellow background with Sorry, there?s a problem and we can?t display your page at the moment. Which is fantastic :dunce:

Logged onto My Virgin Media this morning, saw the green box for the broadband upgrade. Was surprised to see I could proceed to actually order the upgrade considering my area (Nottingham) is not due to be upgraded until October this year at the earliest.

Decided to proceed with the order submission to see what happens!

Currently on 20MB with SH/DOCSIS3 already installed; due an upgrade to 60MB. Order stated 60MB so can only be fulfilled as part of the speed doubling exercise as doesn’t exist today. Suspect this may be a very long order lead-time for me or I could get the download now and upload later?

But I've seen posts today from BB users with 30Mb and 100MB talking of their upgrades going ahead, so not just 20MB users?

What is the surprise for me is that they are allowing upgrades in certain areas much earlier than previously announced. My theory is that they are permitting download upgrades if the region supports it now (i.e. 100MB enabled now), but will hold back on the upload upgrade until the full network upgrade is complete. That is fine with me.

An area can still support 100MB even though it only runs four DS channels, which mine has for a while.

The additional channel bonding seems to be in line with the speed doubling upgrades or general capicity increases.

Indeed you are right, but the point i was making is that it's still officially supported (not ideally) even with only 4 downstream.

My area must be full of tightwads on lower tiers for them not to bother with bonding the channels, seems to be more upload congestion in Middlesbrough atm.

what 100meg upgrades?

There are so many 100meg areas with 4 channels its enough to assume extra DS channels are not standard 100meg upgrades, and more likely advanced work for the speed doubling.

The green bar from what I have seen posted should still come up even if the area isnt due yet as some people says its there but doesnt let them upgrade.

I am currently on 20M service (with a small blue ntl: modem) in the Biggleswade area and experiencing intermittent service loss and slow speeds particularly on Saturday evenings. I've checked my modems functionality against the signal level sticky in this forum and all appears within specification.

On sigining in to My Virgin Media today I saw the green banner and followed the more info link which gave me information that my connection will be upgraded from 20M to 60M with the need for a new (free) modem - would that be a Superhub? There was an Upgrade Me link presented.

I am currently on a discounted 20M service (originally £37/mo reduced by £20/mo on a 3 for £58/mo offer some time ago). Will adopting this upgrade (1) improve my internet operation and (2) affect my monthly charge i.e. will I lose my £20/mo discount through it being seen as a contract change?

you will be getting a shub and moving on to docsis 3 so hopefully it will be a lot better for you. Although you think you are receiving a a discount atm you have got to bear in mind that 50mbit (soon to be 100mbit) is £25 a month so if they ever try to fob you off and tell you that your price has got to go back up and you have been in receipt of a special discount you can tell them to shove it where the son don't shine.

Typically they have sent me a confirmation email for neither of the dates I picked as suitable and for one which is definately not. Same happened when I was trying to arrange TiVo, what's the point of the website?

Just given them a call and just as well really.

Not only had the system booked the dates wrong, it had decided it was a chargeable install. Got it re-arranged for April 5th when I was off anyway (but was not able to choose it from the website). Apparently I can't have a self install because there have been some issues with signal strength in my area and might require some tweaks (I've previously had problems with having too high a signal as I'm the first house on the street loop).

The lady on the phone said she had personally seen a lot of problems with install dates being booked wrongly and made chargable for the free 60mb upgrade so I strongly advice anyone who's booked something through the website to give them a call on 150 to check the details.

1 - Obviously, my speed being good may not mean that yours will be good, but I actually get slightly better than the supposed max speed of 60 Mbps: -

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2012/03/3.png

2 - When I ordered the Superhub, a new contract arrived in the post for me to sign. I am on a retention deal, but the new contract was still showing the retention deal price so there was no increase. In the end though, I ended up phoning up and saying I didn't want to sign a new 12 month contract and that was no problem - I just carried on as I am on my existing contract.
