View Full Version : 50M Is my Downstream power level and SNR right?

After a few months of complaining, VM decided to repull my cable and replace a brand new one to fix my upstream power level which was at 58dBmV.

Before the repull, my downstream was fine, somewhere between 5-6dBmV and 41 to 42 SNR.

After the repull, glad to say that my upstream power level is at 39dBmV, but now my downstream levels seem messed up!

have you got an attenuator fitted?

it is possible the modem has went faulty form the repull as snr is the modem and the snr is too low fo rhte modem

also generally the pwer levels are similar your are all ove rhte place what ever happened with the repul it has mucke dit up you will need a tech to fix it

No, there's an isolator with -0.4dB connected. Even before the repull, it was there and the downstreams were all okay.

I like to believe it's a faulty modem, otherwise I'll have to call up the engineer to do another repull, which was frustrating and tiresome.

Does anyone know the number to VM technical support besides the 150 that you call from a virgin line?

I had exactly that a few months ago. It was fixed by replacing the amplifier in the street cabinet. No field engineer will fix that.

I just booked an engineer to come next Monday. Will he be able to fix it?

If he isn't cabinet trained he won't be able to fix it unless ot's a modem fault. He'll likely swap the modem/hub out a first action. If the low power level persists then make sure the engineer calls Networks in your presence.

How likely it is the fault of the amp or modem? I was using the internet before the repull and checked the downstream signals to be around 6dBmV and SNR42dB. I checked again right after they finished the repull and my downstream was all messed up

it could be that when repullign they damaged teh cable, or the teh conenction to the pit, it could be a number of things i would agree with seph it will probally need a network engineer

I would have expected a damaged cable to have equal detrimental effect across all DS channels. That's why I think it more likely to be the amplifier and it mirrors on the face of it what happened in my case.
