Hi friends,

i have noticed that my Langley SHE - QAM 64 is upgraded into QAM 256. Any suggestion? i was on QAM 64 for last 2years with my old 20meg and 50meg

looks like VM is doing some work in my area.
as a 100meg customer still i am getting unstable speed between 30meg to 60meg all the time.

my hope is:
It's only a matter of time

before the upgrade Connection on 08.02.2012

the qam upgrade is a cheap way or virign to provide addiotnal capicty instead of the more expensive way or providing more cmts or spluiting the fibre

it is good to see they have finally got round to it. They still might be doing a few other things but you shoud defo be able to get better speeds now.

only problem is the power levels required for qam256 are different to qam 64 dependent on your exntl area so it ocudl cause problems

My understanding was everything was supposed to be on QAM256 before 50mb came out, and anything less was a fault...

nope they still had qam 64 with 50mb jsut had different power levels, i often wondered why it wasnt upgrade for one thy get more bandwidht for little cost in upgrading it, i mean the cost compare to spliting the fibre or acutalyl providing acutally infrastucure to cope with it

And his power levels are fine atm

That's a ridiculous statement.

256QAM is the minimum goal for 100 meg and beyond. The 64QAM areas had poor infrastructure. Upgrading that to provide an SNR suitable for 100 meg and byond is not a cheap exercise.

Also they are adding fibre and adding/upgrading line cards.

I think you're somewhat prejudiced.

so your saying qam256 from qam 64 doesnt provide addiotnal capicty? as that what i was saying that upgraidn ghte qam gives more capicty

thank you guys for the comments. i think for qam 256 my power levels seems to be alright.
only between 4am to 5.30pm iam getting 100% full 100meg speed. other than that speed between 30-60meg.

one thing i have to agree after the upgraded my QAM i can feel my connection changed into bit stable. my area from july onwards they are doubling the peoples speeds. hopefully they will finish the ground works by this summer.

"Also they are adding fibre and adding/upgrading line cards." i will totally agree on seph's statement.

cheers

I didn't say that upgrading to 256QAM doesn't provide extra capacity. Of course it does - by about 33% (from 6 bits/symbol to 8 bits).

I was attacking your point about it being a cheap way out for VM.

fair enough i misunderstood, that just my opinion it is the cheaper way to provide it

The same thing happened to me in July - from 64QAM to 256QAM. I'd previously had 256QAM on the DOCSIS 1 20 meg service. I concluded that reason for being on 64QAM when I took 50 meg was due to downstream noise on the VM side of the optical node not mine.

Can u please some1 explain why power level keep changing day time to night time.
many thanks

Actually the swing is quite high on the downstream. I've seen a 3 dBmv swing when the temperature has fallen outside to the -5 mark. But I don't think that has happened, has it?

So they've either been to the street cabinet and adjusted/replaced the amplifier, or there's something unstable at the amplifier, or your hub's playing up (less likely IMO).

Generally speaking, power levels at night will be higher downstream than at day. But in srtable weather I'd expect no mor than a ½ degree swing.

Why? Anything going wrong?

you are absolutely right my power level higher in night time. Today when i did speed test between (7pm-9pm) i am getting 70-80meg average. https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2012/02/50.pngEven my rapidshare download via IDM downloading 8.5MB/sec this is the first good result for me since i upgraded into 100meg. its proves there are some works and upgrade going on in my area. day by day things are changing into good.

Pretty impressive VM. touch wood lol

i got another superhub delivered to me i will keep it as backup in case my current one gives headache.

Yesterday's my ping result

i will post today's ping result tomorrow.

BTW, Langley HE has little to do with your previous 64QAM. You are fed from Reading Hub (Boulton Road); like I am.

Langley is one of two Super HEs tghat feeds in national TV.

Glad it looks OK for now.

your are right, ya my hub located in boulton road i think its near by makro store

Thanks Seph for your infomation
