Welllll, I have just been uploading quite happily for the last couple of hours and hit about 1.5gb, completely forgetting about stm because i have never uploaded this much before and all of a sudden my upload speed dropped from 500k/sec (which is what i capped it at) and shot down to 6k/sec and now it won't go above 20. I checked on the VM site and it says that when stm kicks in (between 1500 -2000 and it is now 2100) your speed is reduced by 65% but that is still ~200k/sec. I reacon they are trying to pull a fast one.

Well i recon,
Peek hours im getting silly speeds and ment to have 50MB connection lol
But on VM site its says XXL 50MB connections dont get capped unless you use loads of up speed, well im not lol.

everything is back to normal upload wise now and i am getting full speed. Weirdly it is nearly 6am and I can only get 3.3mbit.

Sounds like you might need to set one of these babies up..

Mine started out like yours - a few dodgy periods then quickly deteriorated into pure garbage a lot of the time.

Gazing in my crystal ball I see you..

Moaning on the VM community board
The the reps admitting that they've oversold your local bandwidth and saying they'll raise a fault with networks.
Giving you a meaningless number you can't check up on.
You asking about when the meaningless fault number is likely to be fixed
Them saying in 3 months time
(this is where I am at the moment)
Things gets foggy now but I imagine there will be slippage on that three month date - the commuinty board has plenty of examples of that.

Not sure exactly what I'll do but the first step will be a downgrade to 10Mbps - a different network so just possibly OK and if so often faster speeds that the overloaded one I'm on - plus £14 a month less.

Prepare yourself for potential disappointment - Unless your CM is swapped for non-DOCSIS3 then your tier downsize will be a simple TFTP configuration file change leaving you on same chassis & linecard unless line balancing moves you on CM re-registration.

Good luck with that one….

Yes I found that out before I read your post. Still on exactly the same DOCSIS3 set of channels. It didn't even reboot at the time of the downgrade. I still think I made the right choice as at least I now get the performance I'm paying for rather than paying for 50 and getting 10 a lot of the time. I doubt I'll move back up after seeing how badly wrong cable can go so VM have lost a little revenue and I'm considering ditching them entirely when Infinity arrives.
